O.K. here's the deal...
MOJO is doing finer than a frog's hair split 3 ways! (That's pretty damn fine!)
All of his vitals stabalized last night a bit before midnight and only dipped one time for about 3 minutes. The swelling went down almost completely too! As it turns out, he actually was bitten under his right arm pit (I guess cat's have those too). The swelling that was present in his mouth and face was a result of him entering into anaphylactic shock. And the reason his mouth was bleeding was while he was reacting to the swelling, he was inadvertantly biting and chewing on his inner cheek tissue as they were in the way of his teeth.
Although he's not out of the woods yet, he should be able to come home tomorrow. The Vet said he's strong enough and eating and drinking enough that he could go now but these bites are tricky and wants to keep him one more night just in case.
MOJO will have to be treated by me at home for an undetermined amount of time, as the venom of the brown recluse has been known to lay dormant in tissue for varying periods of time only to resurface and cause major tissue damage leading to amputations in humans years after the initial bite!
The Vet said as far as tissue damage goes he doesn't see any evidence of extreme damage other than the norm (what ever that is.). But I still have to treat the bite wound to try to control the break down of the tissue. If it worsens over time and doesn't look like it will heal, he said he could just cut the area out as it is in the fatty tissue. But we'll cross that bridge if need be.
Bottom line is he did not recieve a high concentration of the venom (determined by tissue culture) so it was a young spider with under developed glands. And MOJO's own lack of will power over food helped save his fat ass too as the majority of the venom was contained within the fatty tissue, just as the Vet thought last night. He did say the reason he didn't get more alarmed last night was, given the symptoms and physical evidence, once he established the time frame of the bite, he said if the spider were an adult MOJO would not have lasted the 2 hours it took to notice his condition and get him to the clinic, especially with anaphylactic shock setting in.
MOJO is expected to make a full recovery, it will take some time but he should do well.
These spiders are some BAD-JuJu for sure! And apparently they are hard to kill, they can live for several months with no food or water before they go cannibal. Most anything to get rid of them ya just cut off the food supply. Ya can't do that with these, so I have the exterminator coming on Monday morn to blast the joint!
Again thanks to all!
