Are you new to the EF Women's Board? START HERE!

I was on another forum had mostly male members and was very hard core. I want more of the female prospective regarding weight lifting, so here I am.

Hi ladies. :)

I'm new here, obviously, but I've been browsing and reading random threads on Elite just over the last couple weeks. I'm actually close friends with Ulter, so that's how I ended up here. :) So y'all know -- I'm 26 and a high school science teacher in the Detroit area (I teach chemistry, physics and anatomy/physiology -- so anything sciency you tell me can be super detailed; I love it).

So my stats: I'm 5'5, 176 lbs and 32% body fat.

Goal: 135 lbs, 20% body fat.

Story: At 19, I tipped the scales at 260.25 lbs. back in 1999 when in college at Michigan State. I grew up obese and my parents were/are as well. I joined WeightWatchers in 1999 and lost approximately 80 lbs between 1999 and 2005, fluctuating from year to year for various reasons. As of August 2005, I plateaued around 185 and was unable to break through the set point.

I started working with Ulter Feb. 1st of 2006 -- and now things are very different for me and I've finally passed that awful number. I live a very active, healthy, well-rounded lifestyle.

If you want to know more about me or the details of my regimen, you can check my progress site at www.freewebs.com/troychak I just typed it up a few days ago, and I am too lazy to re-type it. :)

Lastly, I thought I'd add that I've been sort of intimidated to post here on Elite -- I am in the midst of starting to believe just where I belong in the fitness world... and it's getting better all the time.

Thanks for havin' me.

Girl you have NOTHING to be intimidated about!!! We ALL have to start somewhere... I'm just so GLAD you found the right place.
Ulter is a good bro :)

:wavey:

Welcome & happy posting... look around, there is TONS of awesome information & wonderful ladies here ... (a few mentionable guys as well ;))

Thank ya', ma'am. :)

I have heard lots about you already -- SUCH an inspiration, even to a badass like me. :)

Welcome to Elite. I'm glad you've decided to post and participate here. There are lot of very knowledgeabe people with lots to share. You're one of the most schooled/learned people in recent memory to come to Elite as a new member. When you feel a little more comfortable you might think about a log too. You're an inspiration to many people in your circle and I'm sure you will be here as well by the time you're done.

Now let's see what I can do about some Karma. :rose:

Hey girls! Welcome to EF! Everyone here has been such an inspiration to everyone else at so many different points in the "evolution" to the "Fitness Lifestyle". Always remember that everyone started SOMEWHERE figuring out what they want to accomplish, trying to get around or make sense of the way society expects us to be, the crap in the media, the "canned" diets, etc. Please don't feel intimidated at all! This is one of the most supportive & constructive women's board on the net! That's what makes it so good!

(((Ulter))) Thanks, darlin'.

Sassy, thanks for the welcome. :) I hear you on the 'canned' diets -- I got in a tiff on the WW (weightwatcher) boards tonight with a woman who said I look sick on my progess site.

I wanted to write back "Hi -- um -- you've lost 3 lbs... and I've lost 84... let's talk later."

She was referring to a picture of me I posted just after I'd come home from the gym on a Sunday (hour of lifting followed by an hour of cardio).

Did I look sick? Maybe -- but apparently she didn't know what a real workout looks like. *sigh* Some people just don't get it... which is why I need to meet more folks -- hopefully HERE -- that do.

LMAO! Now that's good humor. I'm sure WW provides the environment for some people but my only experience w/ it was back in the late 80s when I happened to go to a couple meetings because it was hosted at my company w/ a membership discount or somethign as part of the employee benefits. So I think it was on a Thursday afternoon, twice I walked about 2 blocks thru the buildign (BIIIIG COMPANY) to get to the meeting room, and proceeded to sit & listen to about 20 women bitch about their weight and exchange recipes for these "healthy" muffins which I"m sure were godawful in their nutritient listing but they weren't "the processed ones". About half way thru the 2nd meeting (as I was an open-minded, eager young corporate employee), it occurred to me that that hour could've been spent oooh so much more effectively in the gym next door..... The next day I invested my monthly dues into the World Gym next door and hired my first serious strength trainer - and this was back when aerobics & cardio were "the thing" - instead my time in the gym was measured by whether or not I puked after leg day!

In a way I guess I thank WW for leading me into bodybuilding....

HAHA!!! Hey, whatever works.

And I hate to say it, but there are STILL tons of women who will spend most of their calories a day on processed foods and snack cakes.

That's actually why I hit a wall -- I was counting 'flex'points forever and losing weight... suddenly it stopped because my body didn't like those foods.

My diet is now cleaner (and actually I was just telling Ulter the other day that WW has developed a 2nd eating plan called CORE that brings a cleaner diet to the WW program -- but it's only an option, and most WWers don't do it because it's too much of a "sacrifice") and I actually get to eat MORE now than I did when following WWers.

For once I'm actually satiated, which is a miracle!
