Appendicitis?

Ok, so I worked my abs like crazy today at butts & guts (my favorite class), and I am of course sore. But I have been having a lot of stomach pains, just below my belly button, and the whole area has been pretty tender. I've looked up some appendicitis symptoms, and it said that that was one of the first.

I'm definitely not a hypochondriac, and I don't go to the doctor very often, never been in the hospital, don't get the flu, etc. Both my mom and sister have had it, though, so I'm a little paranoid. Anybody ever had it? What was it like? What point did you get worried? Any response would be appreciated...avoiding doctor/hospital is OPTIMAL. :)

I had mine taken out about a year ago and it seemed like the pain was in the general area of the beltline. It took like 3 hours of pain to get me in to see a doctor and it was removed about 6 hours later. The pain seemed to just keep increasing until I was no longer able to even stand up. If the pain persists and/or increases then you should get it checked out, as it can kill you. But really the operation is the easy part, it's when the doctors are trying to determine if you have it that is the most uncomfortable.

Thanks! I'll keep an eye on it...right now, I'm still trying to determine whether it's nicely worked abs or something not so nice. I HATE going to the doctor, so I like to think I have no problem...

Terminator, did you have any bumps, tenderness, or redness below the beltline? I remember my sister had some weird redness there when she had it, but I don't. I guess a huge increase in pain in only three hours would definitely be noticeable...

Anyone else? Thanks Terminator. :)

I threw up in my bed.... then all over my bathroom... then my sister's bed... then all over my parent's bathroom.... then all over my parent's bed. It was at this point that my mom realized that menstrual cramps were NOT the source of my pain and took me to the doctor. The appendix came out later that day.

Yea, what can I say, unless we were bleeding from like EVERY orifice my parents were like, "Tough it out... you won't die." LOL

LOL! Not at your plight, but at your parents. I think we have the same ones. Sis?

Anyhoo, I'm not throwing up anywhere, or bleeding from any orifice...hmmm, maybe I should suck it up and do some more cobra flies...

heehee, thanks bikinimom...anyone else?

Watch for fever - took my hubby's quite awhile to develop from what he thought was gas to 'GET ME TO THE DOCTOR NOW!"

Well Ladymacbeth its been about 7 hours now so if you have it you would really know by now. :( Hopefully it is not being removed tonight. BTW I did not have any redness or bumps but it was quite tender when I poked it with my finger, and come to think of it I did have a fever while in the ER.

well, I haven't been in here for awhile, so I just saw the replies. I slept in, drank a bunch of oj with calcium, took some zantac, and I felt much better...just a little overreactin' going on, I think...

But thanks for all the great info, I appreciate it!

Well

I had mine out a few years ago, was bugging me for months and the doc told me it was spastic colon but wehn i went in days before it almost burst he said it was definatley my appendix. Try this (the doc did it to me) lie on your back and relax your stomach then get someone to push your tummy with their fingers (quite hard) you dont realy feel the pain much when its being pushed in (its actualy reliving) but when they relase it feels like your whole stomachi is jumping out - then youve probably got to have the damn thing out.

My suggestion though is go and see your doc in anycase, coz it could cost you alot of pain and trouble if it bursts !!
