All you can do is, first, concentrate on convincing her that it doesn't worry you - rather than telling her that it shouldn't worry her - and, second, promise her that you will do all the cleaning up (which might involve helping to clean her up, too).

If you wait for a couple of days after her period has started, the bleeding is likely to be less.

Towels are good, of course, because they're very absorbent, but sometimes they are less comfortable than a sheet for whoever's lying on them, so you might also want to have a couple of old sheets on hand that you can fold up and put under you. If it's really the sight of blood that worries her (rather than the thought of it), you can try dark towels and sheets (I think someone said that above).

Also, and obviously, it's not a good idea if you're worried about blood-borne STDs. On the other hand, it's great if you're using condoms for contraception, since the chances of her becoming pregnant are very, very small (yes, I know ... they're not zero, but they're still small).

If the issue is the mess (I don't like it either) what helps staunch it for a while is for her to wear a super tampon for a few hours.
