i was thinking about throwing one of those silly little punching bags (a heavy one that wont sway too much) in my basement.

anyone else use the bag for cardio,,and if so what do u think about it?

I like to use the punching bag it's a great workout! I use to box so the punching bag will always be part of my cardio.....I love it! :D

Just make sure you start out small and practice form because you can really fuck up your wrist if you aren't careful dude! Make sure to get some 8lbs gloves too.

Boxing is one of the BEST cardio workouts there is!!!! I have done amature boxing for several years and Always get a good workout...Even going back now to hit the bag and stuff, is a great workout!!!! Start today...if you can try to add some jump rope, & diff bags... but just hitting the bag for like 15-20 mins is a great workout....You wont be disapointed... :mix:

I agree , I starting doing boxing stuff last year when I qs doing one of those 12 week transformation deals and was shedding bodyfat, I did up to 6 or 7 rounds of sparring 3- 4 times a wek in addition to running and my weigh workouts, I dropped anout 36 lbs in 12 weeks and lost nearly 6 inches off my waist. I use the heavy bag now and am quit enjoing that...I seem to have a lot of punching power....lol.

I used to teach Martial Arts a few years ago. We had a few different items that we ran in a "round robin" fashion. We would go from station to station in either 1 min or 2 minute intervals.

Speed Bag
Speed Ball
Light Water Bag
Heavy Bag
Sparring the Air Shield
Holding the Air Shield

If we had extra people, we would run 1 sparring match with 2 of them and maybe on person would be resting. It was a lot of fun and a lot of cardio.

awesome workout. I have a 50lb bag in the basement. I use it pretty often, and still cant go 4 minutes without stopping - KICKS mY ASS.

I started doing this about a month ago, I'd wrap up my knuckles ina small layer of paper towels and wail on the bag for a bit to condition my knuckles and strengthen my wrists. I'd also do some light to medium punching of a concrete wall with my bare knuckes to take some feeling away and callous them up.

I just got me a new 100lb everlast bag and hung it today, its been awhile for me also i took karate for 9 years and used to work on the heavy bag everyday and never get tired, things have changed lol.

I have a 100# bag in my basement... It a great workout... I do 8,3min rounds with 1min break per round... Buy wraps and gloves...btw, I had to move my bag to the steel center beam in the house to reduce the noise and shock transfer...
