man, i come out of the gym feelin pumped and great.. jump in the car, hit the PW shake comprised of: dex, whey, and creatine. well 2 minutes later i feel like utter crap, and it stays that way for like 20 minutes.. bloated, lethargic, and like i want to lay down.. anyone else get this? i am sure its indication of a big insulin spike, but man am i miserable for that short period of time!! anyone else experience this?

It would from the insulin spike... but what do you mix them with? I know that when i use to mix my protein with creatine in cold water... i use to feel like shit. I tried room temp water and i never got it again.

yeah i just use water, and by the time i drink it, its pretty warm from sitting in my car.. what surprises me is that i dont even use that much dex (only 1 tablespoon)..

Sometimes I feel that more than others. I wonder why it`s only sometimes.

The insulin spike shouldnt cause bloating. It could be from an allergy or intolerance to one of the ingredients. I get the same reaction to protein drinks, all of them, regardless of when I use them. I get bloated, and my face slightly swells, giving me a slight double chin. Many people are allergic to dairy proteins, whey and/or casein. Do some searches on the boards and you'll hear from lots of people who look much better (leaner) when cutting out protein drinks. Dairy is one of the most common food allergens.

It could also be the dextrose, which is derived from corn starch. Corn is another one of the most common food allergens.

Try to replace the shake w/ food, w/ equal amounts of protein and carbs. Try something like boneless/skinless chicken w/ all fat removed and white rice/or a white potatoe, see now your body reacts.

Switch to Maltodex as well...

ok, so in the past two days, i've waited till i got home before hittin the whey/dex/creat.. i was extremely uncomfortable dealing with those feeling while driving home (15 mins). interestingly, i didnt have the intense response that i have had before. i felt a bit of lethargy from the sugar i suppose, but not the slam in the face like before. i am wondering if it has to do with my body being calmed down by the time i get home and have the shake.. who knows, but i'll keep it up for now.. as far as malto, i thought dextrose was the general PWO carb of choice?

I think people mix 50/50 blend of malto/dextrose.

Also, interesting to know that when you wait until your body is "calmed down", that you don`t feel that way.

day 3, of waiting until home for the PWO meal.. and again, no uncomfortable feeling.. so i guess i figured out my remedy.. when y body is more calm, i suppose there is less of a shock when i ingest the hi GI carbs.. i wonder if this makes any difference with results.. though i doubt it because we are talking only a 15 min delay from when i finish workout out to when i take the drink

That`s good to hear. Good for you.

I think I`ll do that too. (wait a few minutes) before drinking the dex/whey shake. I walk up my basement steps into my kitchen and I drink it immediately. lol
