Anyone else fighting a shoulder injury?

As a response to deteras1. I have a fond understanding that one should not stretch in between sets. Once the muscle is already warmed up, stretching would only promote over lengthening of a muscle thus, injury. IMHEO

Wow, where did you hear that? I've never heard that before. Interesting point.

I don't think this is true. You have to stretch. I read that it promotes muscle growth to stretch in between sets.

I do not read M & F mag. I was under the impression that when you apply stress to a muscle it breaks down, stretching will stretch a muscle, causing a further break down and possible tears when doing during a workout. And time and aa will help rebuild. But yes I do believe you should lightly stretch after a brief warmup and then after training but not before during and after.

I used to do 10-15 mins cardio for warm up and then do all kinds of stretching. Now, I just show up, stretch the muscle that I'm about to workout and warm up with one or two medium weight sets before I do anything heavy.

I saw that movie house of 1000 corpses this past weekened, your avatar reminded me of it. It made me want to go to confession after watching it. It seriously freaked me out lol.

How does this seem to help? Any problems?

15 minutes is waaaaaay more than ya need, that's as long as my whole cardio session separately lol.

5 minutes to get your heartrate up is OK while we are young.

I took a biomechanics course at the cooper institute here in dallas, the instructor was the former Mr. Colorado... he is a $150/hour trainer, hilarious guy... he wrote "Resistance Training Instruction" and "Muscle Mechanics".. Everett Aaberg is the name.

Ahhh anyway the point is he said that up until about age 30 you can get away with just doing warmup sets and then going into your workout and probably not hurt yourself.. but older than that and your risk increases greatly to pull/tear something if you are not warmed up right.. he had a scientific reason but he also said the same is true in the people he trains.

just another opinion.

Shoulder injuries are the worst of any joint...they never heal the way that they should. I had my left one reconstructed, because of years of competitive full contact fighting....My lifting has never been the same since....my only advice is to lay off when it hurts, and try not to put the shoulder joint in a position to be injured in the first place.

What kind of fighting were you doing?

ultimate fighting?

I was spotting a dude at the gym today who hurt his shoulder playing rugby years ago. He was doing DB presses with 100s and every once in a while, his left arm would just drop uncontrollably. He just kept in doing what he was doing, I guess it is just something he chooses to live with because he doesn't want to be cut on.

I have a stress fracture on my heel, I'll be out of the gym for a couple of weeks

you guys know of some good supplements to help recovery (glucosamine, msm, calcium, etc.....)?
