Any muscleheads good with computers/dsl?

F****ing DSL is about to drive me nuts. I've got an efficient networks 5260 dsl modem. I'm trying to make it work with Bellsouth service. Sounded simple enough when I went to hook everything up yesterday. Apparently Bellsouth doesn't have any drivers for this particular model or something like that. I know that there is a way to make this modem work with Bellsouth, but I couldn't understand half the crap from techno buffs that I was able to pull up on google. All I got from it was that it could be done if you know all the jargon they were using. Anyone got any ideas?

The DSL modem may depend on the distance you're from the main ISP's server. For example here in Montreal, Bell Canada has 4 different models (Nortel, Speedstream, USB modem, Alcatel....).

I have Southwestern Bell DSL, and I'm using that modem. Depending on your operating system, there's another program you install called a PPPoE client.

If you're running XP, you don't need that. Otherwise, let me know, and I'll put the client somewhere you can download it.

Thanks. I'm running XP. That's about all I know! Computers blew by me after BASIC back in high school. I downloaded something called enternet 300 v1.5. I hoped this would help me out, but I don't have a damn clue how to use it or what it is exactly. I think I'm going to try and sell the modem to someone who can use it on ebay and get one from Bellsouth.

You can use the networking wizard in XP to setup your DSL. You don't need the Enternet stuff.

Go to http://dialup.swbell.net/dsl/downloads/winxp/index.html, and go to the section about Configuring Windows XP's PPPoE client. That should do it for you.

Don't sell that modem, if you can get it to work. It's a good modem, and could possible be upgraded to a router, which is even better.
