Its presumptious to think we (or the judge) know the kid better than the foster parents who raised him.

If they fully support him, who is the judge to say otherwise?

foster parenthood has so many variables though...kids get moved around from house to house, etc. There is no guarantee that those foster parents actually raised him, in some cases the kids might've just moved in with that set of foster parents in the last couple months or so. At least judges have had to prove over the years that they are rational, intelligent, and fair decision makers in most cases

I tend to agree with you, but I suspect that as long as the judge presides over this ward of the state, she has the legal right to make subjective calls like that, just like a 17 year old still living with his parents would need their permission.
