amore's journal using var (just started) - need help prior to figure show

Ladies,

I just started my 2nd ever cycle of var. I used anavar a year ago for only about a week but stopped using it as I figured that I should keep at natural body buidling for longer. I have been lifting weights now for about 2 years regularly. Over the last year I have treated body building religiously, played wiht my diet, bulked up, cut down, bulked up again and now it's time for me to lean out for show.

I will be posting photos soon - updated/current. I am changing my diet right now too. Some of you may remember how I hired a trainer who competed 15x in body building and who gave me a crazy cutting diet, which well I come to find out was a bit too rigorous. I kept getting a cold on it as I was not getting enough nutrition it seemed (50g carbs a day for low carb cycling days, 100g protein, 30g fat and about total 900 cals for those low carb days - which was hard). I lost water weight and dropped about 10 lbs (143 currently in weight) but I have a gut feeling that I need more cals in order to have the strength to train and not to get sick from burnout!!!

I started var on the 31st (Wed) this past week (so I have been on now for only about 3 days). I am taking between 5 mg and 10 mg per day - about 7.5 mg per day avg. The pills are tiny so it's hard to divide them out ... and they are 10 mg each. I take 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 at night time.

This past week I got sick. From Sunday until the mid week my voice was half gone and I had no energy. I trained still a little - as much as I could but well, not as much as I would have liked to. Between a busy work schedule (self employed) and the stresses of life I have a tendency of burning out regularly. Also the energy supps I take - redline and caffeine seem to keep me up too long when I should go to sleep and well I burn out after a few days even more so as I don't feel that I get adequate rest. Last night I slept from midnight to about 1:30 p.m. tonight!!

So here are the questions:

1. What should I dose at? 5 or 10 mg per day? For how long? I was thinking 2 weeks on, 2 off.
2. Please help me fine tune my nutrition, which will be in the next post.
3. Please help me fine tune my workouts (below).

The figure competition is at the end of august.

Stats: 5'7, 143 weight
Calipers: in MMs:
Abdominal: 26
Chest: 16 (think I may have screwed up this measurement)
Thigh: 22
Suprailiac: 6
Midaxillary: 12
Subscapular: 4
Per http://www.linear-software.com/online.html my BF % for all the above measurements is about 19%
Only for: Tricep, suprailiac and thigh: 16%
Waist: inches: 27; hips inches: 39

Diet:

FOODS OF ONLY these combos:

-Meats: Chicken, tilapia or salmon
-Veggies/carbs: Mostly spinach and asparagus
-Fruits/carbs: Mostly just berries, fav being blueberries, some grapes
-Carbs: Sweet potatos, oats, little bit of honey with my salmon (I have this great recipe!) – about a tablespoon max a day on the high carb days only
-Protein supps: Beverly international brand – whey mix – “Ultimate Muscle Protein” also “Muscle Provider” from Bev Int’l.
-Fats: Salad dressing, vinagrette – little of, avocados (tops 50g per day or so), cook using NO oils – only the spray, little bit of feta cheese (maybe tops 20g per day)
-No breads of course/no junk foods

Meals: Balanced w/ Protein, carbs, fats:

Higher carb days (plan):
Days 1-4:
Cals about 1400-1500.
140-160g protein
150-200 max g carbs depending on workout intensity
40-50g fats – good fats

Lower Carb days:
Days 5-7
130g protein
50-100g carbs (more like 50 if can manage it)
About 30g fats
Totals to about 1000-1100 cals.

Supplements:
-Vaso xp – vasodilator
-Redline when I really need it – screws me up if I take it too regularly – as I don’t sleep enough then
-sesapure though I’m not taking it regularly as I should
-t-rex sometimes
-l-glut post/pre workouts
-vitamins and extra b-vitamins
-BCAAs
-EFAs
-sometimes mineral/vitamin supplement “Emergen-C”
-garlic when I feel sick, LOL
-drink loooots of green tea – maybe more than I should… need to up the h20 intake
** I am thinking about cycling off the supplements other than vitamins and var on weekends…. Any ideas? I think it’s not good to take them all the time?

Workouts:
Now I listen to my bod, sometimes I do less cardio or weights – I workout to feel a great pump and some pain the next day – to feel very strong, but if I feel weak I don’t overdo it w/ the workouts (I take it easy or day off):
Approx workouts:
CARDIO daily: I was doing 45 min or so 4-5 days a week of slower cardio where I would still sweat, but will not change this to High intensity shorter session trainings:
-Will do about 20 min, 2x per day of high intensity (5-6 days per wk goal): Fast run on treadmill/jump rope combo – gut wrenching type
WEIGHTS:
Full bod workouts every other day, and some lighter weight workouts and/or ball/abs exercises in between the hard full bod workouts. I think I like the idea of giving adequate rest in between workouts which are intense – that has worked for me in the past.

So far:
I feel strong. I think it’s the var kicking in, but I’m not sure? I’ve felt incredibly strong and pumped up. I feel hungry! I have been at about 1500 cals for the last 3 days prior to that I ate lower carbs of 1000 cals per day or so for a few days and was fine. But now, I am suddenly hungry on the 1500 cals! Today I already ate abtou 1500 cals and I have a few meals more that I should have eated (felt sick at night, throat hurt so I drank a lot of milk w/ honey and a bit of butter- mom’s recipe from when I was a little girl – always worked annnnd I ate a ton of garlic – feel much better today!!).

Honestly, I stopped reading your post when i saw you were thinking of dosing Var at 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off. You DO NOT dose Var that way. You need to keep consistent blood levels to reduce chance of sides, AND var starts really working after about 2 weeks - why would you stop then?

Where in the world did you get the idea of cycle Var 2w on / 2w off? Whoever told you that, you need to go kick them in the balls.

Var should be dosed at 5-10mg ED for about 10-12 weeks. Time off shuld equal time on, to give your body a break.
 
Are you dosing VAR or CLEN? CLEN is two on/two off. Not VAR! As Daisy said, you MUST keep levels constant. Run it at 5mg ed for first week, no sides seen increase to 10mg for 10-12 wks. You do not have to taper off nor run anything after. One of the many advantages of not having balls. I would take some Tylers or milk thistle. Var is not known to be toxic to liver in small doses but why take the chances. Can't hurt you any by taking it. AF store is a sponsor of this board and they sell both.
 
ladies - thank u SOOO much! my ex told me that - to cycle and i trust him - well no longer!!!! i love this board!!! thank u thank u! i will keep it at 5 mg per day for now and then up it to 10... and stay on as you suggested. Any other comments would be super!!

i have some very big cravings now... !!! help! i just want to eat eat eat and eat more carbs!
 
I have a couple comments....

First congrats on going after a comp!

Var - I'm sure your dosing instructions were confused w/ clen so sounds like you have that under control. I will suggest that you add acidophilus to your supps list just in case - AAS tends to mess up the balance of good & bad bacteria "down there" and can sometimes cause a yeast infection, and well ... yuk. You might also include Evening Primrose - just sort of helps w/ the overall menstrual thing which I expect will be interrupted around July but the symptoms still occur.

Your lower carb days -- I'm not a real big fan of cutting your calories so low -- I don't know if you have experience w/ that but I was interested as to why your fats are higher on the higher carb days and lower on the lower carb days. I've had the best luck in my carb cycles by keeping my total cals about the same but replacing the cals lost on the lower carb days w/ the same number of cals in fats. If you've spent time putting together this diet and there's a reason for it, I don't want to mess w/ it, but I also don't want to see you get sluggish at 8+ weeks out due to low cals.

Just a personal experience - for appetite suppression VPX Dietex (hoodia-based) worked great for me....

Redline whacks me out too -- I might suggest just Cardio Breeze if you are experiencing anything like toasted adrenals.

I might suggest including more anti-ox type stuff -- I regularly use grapeseed extract & Tyler's Liver Detox as well.

I am changing the diet to having more fat on my low carb days - as in to keep the cals the same approx as on the high carb days...

So about 1500 cals on high carb days 1400 on low carb days .. so far so good!

I no nothing about the AAS dosing but the right ladies sure gave you what appears to be the correct adivce :)

The diet did scare me, more specifically the cals on low carb days ...

^^ sounds MUCH better .. please keep us posted, and best of luck to you :rose:

The clen --- please don't look to it to make the difference for you. It's just another supplement that seems to be overrated IMO. However, that may be something for you to experiment with. If it takes you a couple weeks to get it, you will be at 8 weeks out -- clen is what you want to cycle 2 weeks on / 2 off -- so I'd start it as soon as you get it to see if you can deal w/ it. But just don't set your mind like it will be the magic bullet.

Otherwise, the carbs look better -- but again-- I dont' know you feel on that so let us know & of course make your adjustments accordingly!

I second this.

Clen is so overrated in my opinion. Thermorexin from the AF Store did MUCH more for me than Clen.

People think CLen is this amazing cutting drug simply because it is illegal.

WHY IS IT THAT most people (men and women) are against women body building? Just about everyone I know is against me doing this show and it's very very frustrating! I'm a chic who rides a ninja - a tom boyish type I guess - alpha woman here. What is so wrong with it???

I personally don't find figure competition to be satisfying - once you get hoooked on the posing and the freedom of expression in teh posing routine its a different experience completely. People have lost interest in FBB because its gotten so freaky. So now they are trying to push the competition back to "more feminine" but I have yet to see a consistent judgeing of a show where it is clear that they are judging to what they are requesting of the competitors (e.g. 20% "softer" look).

Unfortunately that is the way FBB will ALWAYS be. Further, there is literally no money in teh sport and there willl always be the freaky women who define what people perceive as "FBB".

Fear, jealousy, ignorance, programming. Some people are uncomfortable with the fact that you posess the drive and determination to stick to a diet and exercise regimen to accomplish something they could not. It makes some people feel inferior & people tend to badmouth things they are afraid of or lack knowledge of. Just my opinion.

Others are stuck with the stereotypical image that all women are supposed to be like Mrs. Cleaver & Barbie.

What's wrong with you? Not a damn thing.
 
Thank you for the nice words ;-) Yea, I guess most people dislike us women who have "balls" too. Too bad!

I have some sleeping issue over the last 1/2 week or so... Can't seem to get to sleep when I feel tired. I just lay there tired and can't fall asleep. Over the last 3 nights I helped myself to some niquil night time, but otherwise, I wouldn't be good. I feel rested in the morning. Lots of energy.

Yesterday I did 1000 loops on the jump rope no problem (about 500 at a time w/ a 20 min break or so and very short breaks in between to catch my breath). ;-)

Maybe if I force myself to wake up at a certain hour instead of sleeping in all the time I will readjust my body clock? Any suggestions would be great!!

6-6-6 tuesday
Notes: Weight this morning: 146 lbs. Feeling bloated… I think due to the high carb diet and the soy milk over the last few days (haven’t been really low carb/low calorie for a while now). Feeling stressed from Keith leaving the firm (key person to the company), yesterday. Left eye twitch again throughout the day! Interesting how it went away for a while when I was working out!! Couldn’t sleep last night so night-time-niquiled a big sip again. Issues sleeping over the last few days… Slept until 10:30 a.m. or so… I think I fell asleep around midnight… Cycling off energy supps including vaso-xp, vasodilator since yesterday until when my sleeping is back to normal. The var should be MORE than enough I think for now. Up to 10 mg per day taken 1x per day at around 11 a.m. (today is day 2 of 10 mg per day up from 5 mg prior)
WEIGHTS: YES!
• Maxed at 220 lbs for leg press (straight on one) after already a few sets on it. Set one was at 100 lbs – too easy! Did like 20 reps. Set 2 went up some – to like 140. Then thought whether I can go above 200 lbs… Put it up to 180 for a few reps. Walked, breathed. Breathed a few time deep and boom: 205 – few reps. Then up to 220… Breathed – 5 reps or so!
• Got up to 105 lbs for sitting leg curl. Started set 1 at about 70 lbs – 15+ reps, set 2 was at 85 lbs or so, set 3 was 95 lbs, set 4 105 I think 10 reps at 105!
• Lower back extensions 2x
• Back: cross over arm extensions on the crazy machine with adjustable pulleys – 1x 10 lbs 15 reps or so, 1x 20 lbs 10 reps or so, 1x 10 lbs 10 reps or so
• Abs sittups at highest decline 1x
• 1x pullups 10 reps I think 100 lb offset
• 1x dips 10 reps I think 100 lb offset
• Warmup on arch trainer highest level fast 1.5 min
• Cool down on steps 3 min or so moderate pace
CARDIO: Yesterday did 1000 loops on the jump rope. Today did 830 by 6:30 p.m. Also warmup on arch climber/trainer for like 2 min really high pace and resistance and then cool down on steps for a few min… Weights session was intense! Good leg work!
DIET: High carb day 2: Well, was supposed to be at low carbs but yesterday’s going out to lunch messed me up and I ate too much fruit thereafter. Assuming I was at about 1600 cals yesterday and kind of high fat… Below 200 for carbs yesterday. …. Today at 1500 cals or so, 150 or so of carbs. 6:30 after most meals/cals, I am feeling hungry…. I GUESS after the good workout………. Tomorrow planning on day #3 of high carbs, then low carbs cycling again for 3 days or so... On Sunday (4th) I was good and on low carbs of 67g, about 1400 cals.
 
Add to that: 250 lb max leg press during session nr 2 at the gym after 3 sets (as set 4) with lower weight: I think it was set one at 140 then set 2 at 190, then 230 quick set, 240, 250 ;-) I'm so proud of myself... I just started doing the leg press -- never used to do that and I have not been squatting heavy at all over the last few months ;-)

see side pics I look great in .. but front poses and back are terrible... my hips are wide and my butt is my fattest spot so it looks realllly bad... Help!

Nice pics ... With a clean diet you can work wonders with what you already have ... I speak from experience obviously.

We need back shots... :)
 
Hmmm I just got my period about 6 days early. Wonder if it's the var...?? As for back pictures - soon... Let me get a bit more leaned out. I look like a pear from the backside LOL. ;-(

Ladies, I have been a bad girl. I have not kepts up well w/ dieting... I have worked out but not consistently. Few great workouts, but not every day. I have not kept up with cardio for the last 2 weeks or so........... ;-( I think i am bored w/ the dieting and all... HELP! Also i have been on an educational craze - reading books all day and somehow i don't feel like working out .. i rather sit and read!! BUT WELL i just got clen and tomorrow i want ot start it.. but of course i need to get my act together!

my dieting has been clean besides too much sugary foods (mostly good ones though like fruit). Had a day of bread craze LOL. Oops!

I bought all good, clean foods though today and tomorrow i should be all ready...

Any advice?
 
well so far so good today... clen is good... no headaches or sides... took 1/2 a pill today in 2 doses... this morning..

lots of energy! ;-)

I'm assuming these are 20 mcg tabs? If you are doing fine so far, then tomorrow start w/ 1 tab in AM, if that's ok, I'd up it to 1 tab pm as well. What brand do you have? The dosing will depend first on what you have and second on how you respond. If on the next day you feel fine, then up it again in the AM by 1. If a little too edgy, don't up it in the PM (same dose as previous day). Then next day - keep the same morning dose, and up it in the PM -- increase each AM & PM dose by how you feel. If it gets to be too much, then drink lots of water & back off a tab on the next dose. Tolerance will eventually catch up.

Make sure you are running taurine & watch the cramping, drink lots of water.
 
When is this figure show again? Seems like you may be sabotaging (sp) yourself deliberately and then trying to make it up with Clen and Var.....just MHO......
 
show is aug 26th. the clen and var are making me very agitated. i think it's the clen mostly. over the last 2 days i have not been able to focus very well... i feel like going at my punching bag and in the gym, i am very aggressive (which is good - i lift very heavy and to the max)! I had a superb workout last night. Going to the gym again today.

scorpiogirl - i think i just simply got bored w/ the rigorous dieting and workouts. i get bored with things in life VERY easily generally... so i got off track for about a week and a half (only slightly)... ALso the Redline i was taking was making me sick every 4 days or so... as i think i was not getting good rest with it and would come down w/ the flu it seemed after about 3-4 days of being on it... i felt so weak and miserable that workouts were out of the question for about 3-4 days out of those 1.5-2 weeks. Well no more redline - it just does not go well with me... so i think i am not really sabotaging myself... i am just reacting as most would to months of strict dieting and energy pills having a bad effect about 4 times in the last 2 months (where i felt sick)... cardio breeze has a similar effect on me as the redline by the way... i am natually very high energy.. so a bit too much and i don't sleep well... no perfect sleep means i get sick within a few days - i guess my body is just that picky...... ;-)

What can i do to lower my agitation?? anything? i feel like i will punch someone who gets in my way today right in the teeth! no joke! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh and when i am not feeling good... i eat... i get hungry and at that point dieting is not of concern - to me then it's about getting better fast at whatever cost as i cannot afford to be sick!! ;-(
 
Personally, I would ditch the Clen and do the ECA stack or something similar.

If you know your triggers, avoid them. That's what I meant about sabatoge. If you KNOW you get bored easily, change it up so you can stay on track.

I have a problem. My left rib seems to be higher (protruding) a lot more than others. A friend who is a massage therapist noticed this yesterday. I now notice it too... i do not think I had this problem before (in fact I know I did not as i keep track of my body very much!!).

What could this be? It's scaring me. I am cycling off all supplements apart from vitamins.

Please advise.......... ;-(

Well thinking about it... maybe somehow you had displaced the rib out of the facet and it healed like that. If she works the deep Oblique muscles(Semispinalis, Rotatores, Multifidi) and Deepest muscles (Intertransversaii and interspinalis)then tries to see if she can move it back into place... it could be worth a try?!?! WARNING = DO NOT have her do this if she does not know what she is doing!!!!!!!

Look for an experienced massage therapist... Ask them about how familiar they are with your specific issue. Don't let them feed you a line to try and get you in their office and get your money. (Most won't anyway)

Go to that website... That means the therapist has met the regulations for your state as far as credentials go, and is also a member of a professional organization.
Try and find someone who does like neuro-muscular therapy, or I hate to use 'deep tissue' because some therapists think just pressing harder is equivalent to deep tissue, when actually it's very specific deep muscular work.
At any rate your motorcycle accident is a good possibility to the cause... Usually when you displace a rib it hurts like a mofo but maybe your's was already loose in the facet and it just moved it some and when your body healed it healed with it out of the joint...
It's worth a shot.... Good luck let us know what happens..
