Ala

So when is the best time to take ALA? I want to use it for the antioxidant and glycogen shuttling effects. I do want to avoid the hunger inducing effect so I don't go eating everything in sight. I am trying to lean out but hold onto my muscle gains.

FHG

I take it 30min. before a meal. If i take it after a meal i will soon be hungry again, so to prevent that i take it before.

I would advise against taking it w/ your post workout shake however, i think it's working against what you want in this type of situation. If you take ALA before your preworkout meal i found it works great.

good luck bro...

I always thought ALA should be used post cycle to help shuttle the simple post workout carbs into your muscles? How does it not help that? Also, Kilosports has pretty good prices on ALA, and from my experiences, is good quality too.

drgreenhill i would agree w/ you w/ all prohormones except 1AD. This supplement does actually work, and my strength is steadlily climbing w/ it. I've gained 11 pounds and i'm on my 15th day. That's excellent IMO.

cozmok i would agree w/ you it does speed up the process a bit by lowering your blood sugar.

Growin, I'm not entirely sure on the mechanism of action of ALA. But i would not use it post workout b/c post workout you want that insulin spike and ALA will decrease the insulin spike. This goes against what you want. I'd take your postworkout shake just as it is, make sure you have at least 50g of dextrose or maltodextrin in there for the spike though.

I have found that taking alpha lipoic acid before your workout will give you crazy pumps, but it will make yiou very sluggish and dizzy and I only take it post workout and it works great, but I spoke to some people who love to take it pre workout as oposed to post workout. Whatever works best for you I guess.

A while back, I was having ALA about 3-4 times a week because it was in the Nitro-Tech Bars I eating. Well, that is some potent shit, or maybe it is just me? because I am very suseptible to hypoglycemic episodes. I couldn't go more than 60-90 minutes after my post-workout meal without eating unless I would start to feel tremors and signs of a very low blood sugar level.

I would love to take this supplement because I have heard so many great things about it, but it probably would not be a good idea if it causes hypoglycemic episodes. Any suggestions?

See a lot of people didn't believe me that it can make you hypoglycemic, but i know that's one of its effects. I still wouldn't take it post workout w/ the 1st post workout shake. Before is better IMO but i'm no expert and i could be wrong. But you do need to eat w/ ALA, that's why i take it 30min. before a meal, you don't want do be hypoglycemic or have any of the reactions of hypoglycemia.

From what I remember, I wasn't even eating the bars(with ALA) anytime near my postworkout meal. I think the effect of ALA must be pretty long lasting? at least a day, if not more? I emailed muscletech.com asking how much ALA is in each bar, but never got a response.

Recently, when I was using dexedrine, it also changed my blood sugar levels, causing me to be suseptible to go hypo.Whenever I take shit that causes hypoglycemic episodes, I either gotta eat constantly, which will accumulate to be 4000-5000 calories in a day, or go Hypo and then I will eat like 2000 calories in one meal. Either way I end up eating ALOT more(like 1500 calories more per day) when I'm on a substance that can cause hypoglycemic episodes.

Last night, I ate the whole container of planters macademia nuts. Thats about 160 grams of fat in one sitting and then I had 80-90 grams of protein from whey and casein powders. I'm lucky I ate immediatly as I felt the episode coming because if I were to wait as little as 10 minutes longer then I would have had to eat high GI carbs. At that point, Protein or fat would not do much. In fact, I would have only had the appetite to eat 500 calories or so, at that point. One minute(when I ate, I felt like eating 2000 calories, and I did.), then if I would have waited 10 -20 minutes, I would have really had no appetite, but I would be shaking and dizzy as hell.

hey bro what you're experiencing is not normal. You may need to get checked out or have the doc check your blood sugar levels b/c that's not normal. The ALA as far as i know, i feel the effects in about half an hour, but they don't last much longer than that b/c i eat afterwards.

and Drgreenhill, i PMed you back but your mailbox is full.
