AAP, Omega, and all you other guys who avoid excersises that give you a big waist

Lifting heavy doesn't make your waist big. If you have a 'big' waist and thick core already, then you'll be able to lift heavier than someone with a frail midsection but to correlate the other way is like saying that playing bball makes you taller, because tall guys play bball.

to put it in context look at the classic bbers from the 50's through to the 80's, all the guys who looked amazing and who didn't have huge growth & slin guts..they all squatted, and heavy. Even 'little' frank zane wrote about doing multiple sets of 20 with 315 back in the day.. arnie, over 500 for reps, platz would lift weights that most powerlifters would stuggle with raw.

The only way to guarentee you have a narrow waist, reguardless of exercise choice, is to be black. That way you'll likely have a favorable waist to hip ratio and a lower chance of storing abdominal fat.

Another thing is to be realistic, Natural Mr O john hansen goes on stage with a 33" waist. Now the bullshit online might have you believe that's 'huge' but here's how it looks http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/johnh_4_big.jpg

p.s. I actually AM fat now, I haven't dieted for a year and havent really squatted or deadlifted heavy either for a long long time thanks to injuries.. switching to front squats and the leg press didn't make my core any svelter sadly :p

i am 240+ in that pic and my waist is at least a 36. . .right now i'm around 215 and my waist is a 32. . .

sub i am in the exact same boat as you, i have a naturally wide waist but thankfully i'm very wide up top (back, delts, lats) so it helps with my V

but i still need major help in the midsection, so i started doing (like you mentioned) lighter deads to focus more on the pump

and i do NOT do squats anymore...instead i stick with leg press, hack squat, extensions, hammy curls...and my legs have been responding with awesome growth

fuck squats, i think they are the major culprit to my waist growth

i need to do more cardio tho :worried:

I always felt that dls and squats thinkening your waist was a crock of shit. I mean, why would it? Show me? Same as wide grip chins making you wider? Another crock of shit.

Deads definitely thicken up your lower back - though for me that is mostly because my form was such shit for so long and I brought lower back into the exercise way too much. My lower back juts out though when tensed because of it. I had a guy used to call me Spawn all the time when I'd be on the rear delt machine cause apparently my lower back muscles jutted out or some shit. I was all dude, can I get a better nickname over here? Little shit.

But I only notice it has affectd my waist thickness from a side-on angle. Like, face-on, it hasn't affected it at all. I was narrow in the first place so I'm still realyl glad I did the heavy deads and squats all those years and would still ay there is no way around doing them if you want to get in great shape. Also, if you did deads and squats with perfect form your entire lifitng career, then I doubt you will have this issue as much.

I think it affects my waist as well. My erector spinae are so thick it is uncomfortable to sleep on my stomach. I've stopped the heavy exercises and am working on perfecting my illusion.

good thread.

Are weighted chins okay?
