A new wrist wrap question

Do wrist wraps make your wrists weaker after using them for a long time? I am talking about the wraps that go around your wrist for support, not a strap that is used to hold the weight. I ask this b/c I sprained both of my wrists in the past month, and I have never sprained either of them before. I started using Wraps about a year ago and this is the only thing I could think of that has made my wrists so weak. Thanks for any info.

Using wrist wraps don't make your wrists weaker. However, they don't allow you to strengthen your wrists either. If you use them, especially for a lot of your exercises and for a long time you should definitely be doing independent wrist exercises (wrist curls, grip exercises, etc). The wraps help support your wrists to prevent them from injury and to keep them from holding you back as they may be the weakest part of the group of joints that is being trained on a particular exercise. My advice: start doing some wrist/forearm work. :)

I feel wrist wraps should only be worn when the wrist is the weak link in the motion or when the exercise exerts alot of strain on the wrist. Otherwise the should be worked so they do not become the weak link in everything. They are helpful training through injuries also.
