A little help for my wife with condition

I hope this is the right forum for this. I wasnt sure if it should be in the chit chat forum instead.

Iv posted this on another site too but i wanted to get your opinions on it too please.

I was wondering if you could offer info and advice for my little wifey. Let me start by telling you about her first.
Shes 26, around 54 Kgs or 118 lbs, 5 ft 2.
She got a muscle weakness condition which affects her muscles and is classed as a autoimmune neuromuscular disease called mysthenia gravis. She takes meds for this which stops her white blood cells fighting her own body, but the meds help manage and keep it in check.
Our problem lies in her slight weight gain, and complete lack of libido, she doesnt seem to want any sexual activity at all. I realised this and asked her to get her blood hormones checked at her doctors. They ran the tests and although I dont remember the results are the moment I do remember that her Testosterone was 0.7 nmol, the tests didnt have a reference guide, but according to wiki reference ranges from blood tests says that is the lower limit. The tests also indicated that she may have PCOS, and she then got a ultrasound which confirmed that she did have PCOS.

What I cant understand is I thought PCOS was meant to increase Testosterone production in women, yet my wife has complete lack of desire or libido.

I was thinking of getting her some test to help with the Libido, but not sure if it will help. I will post the rest of her results up when I get home later today so the other hormones can be looked at too. But until then are there any ideas what may be going on, or how we could potentially fix the libido issue.

We will be going to the doctors anyway, but getting usefull information would be good to speak to the doctor about, as it was with my instance.

Hope you ladies can help.

Any one of the medications your wife is on, or the combination of them, could affect her libido.

PCOS commonly negatively impacts libido (in fact, lack of libido is often how it gets diagnosed). It is the symptom of an overall hormonal imbalance (which could possibly be interlaced with her autoimmune disorder). You cannot make a blanket statement that it increases testosterone. A woman's hormone balance is more complicated than a man's. It goes through dramatic changes throughout the month (men have fluctuations, too, but not quite to the degree women do).

The fact she has a chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disease could affect her libido. MG by its very nature causes fatigue issues as well as weakness, even when treated. Is she still trying to keep the same routine/schedule that she had been in terms of working/taking care of the home/working out? She might need to cut back a little in some regard and take somewhat better care of herself in general, maybe go to bed an hour earlier or sleep later or something.

The fact she has some chronic health issues could negatively impact her mood in general. The majority of a woman's libido lies above the neck, which is why they can't invent "female" Viagra. Unlike men, many women who are dealing with stuff in their life do not find relief/release in sex. In fact, it becomes one more thing they need to take care of or worry about, one more chore.

Just giving you some things to think about.

Thanks for your helpful comments.

I had read it in a few places that it increases Testosterone and that’s why women with it start producing more hair growth, thats why I assumed she definitely had PCOS and since her doctors told her that too.

She has had her MG since a young age and the libido seems to have gone down over the years to nothing at all, so I don’t know if the MG is affecting her libido directly. She has cut back on a few things to help her with it better, she doesn’t have to do much so she’s not really getting tired a great deal by activities. Her sleep is also quite good, although she does wake up a few times at night she can go back to sleep straight away. Her mood about everything is generally quite ok and she always has a laugh so I dont think it’s in her head that we have to worry about and think it more of a inbalance in her hormones.

Most women that are suffering from testosterone deficiencies are also suffering from an elevated estrogen level, which is one of the main contributing factors to PCOS. Over the counter progesterone cream and supplements such as DIM, Evening Primrose and "Womens Balancing" type supplements can be extremely helpful. I just had a baby and dealt with the hormone flux and this combination has been extremely helpful to get my sex drive back and on track. My husb and is extremely happy wink wink...

Great, i have also been told that elsewhere, when would you think is best for getting her estrogen and other hormones tested again. Just after her time of the month for example?
