a Drug to settle nerves before job interview..

What would be the best chocie to take to mellow me out before a job interview uupcoming. My first choice would be a drink or 2, but I"m worried that even with only one or two mixed drinks that you would be able to smell it on me. Even with a shower and brushing your teeth a few times.. do y'a;ll think there would be any smell of it.
Other than a drink or 2, what would be a good pill to pop to mellow me out a few hours before the interview, thanks.

Im thinking Vodka would be ok.. .of course I'm not drinking but a little bit... 2 drinks at the most... but if there is ANY chacne it could be noticed I dont wanna even take that small chance.

Smoke a joint! hahahahaha ... joking. Dude ... just mentally prepare yourself. Think that it is gonna be nothing and know your shit good. Think that it is there loss if they dont get you.

Most importantly ... ASK THEM questions. Make it a 2 way interview. When you ask them questions, regarding the job and the questions that they are asking you, it will put them on the spot a little and turn the tables a bit. It seems like a 2 way communication then, and less of a grilling towards you.

Good luck ... whatcha applying for?

A guy that used to work in my office was an alcoholic and his drink of choice was Vodka. I don't know where the theory comes from that you can't smell it, but you could smell him from down the hall. If you know what your doing( job wise) then you should have no problems, it's natural to be nervous just keep yourself composed and you'll be fine..

I read somewhere that dark chocolate is good to eat before an interview. Small amount of caffeine to increase alertness and there's somethign settlign in the dark cocoa.

I agree with Mavy's good advice, ask questions and don't allow them to entirely control the situation. I've been through many, many professional interviews over the years, and I've worked for some real tyrannical assholes. Don't be intimidated, if they see you cower, you're finished because they will own you from here on out and you'll never be respected or able to negotiate anything from them.

Remember, you're interviewing them as well and deciding IF you want to work for them.

Good Luck!

Definetly do NOT have a drink or two before the interview.

If you feel like you really have to take something (a lot is psychological, or placebo) take 0.5mg xanex.

Stay away from alcohol and drugs.

hahahahahaaa!! Sorta crazy you'd consider drinking before a job interview. But if youre serious about have a nervous problem, a beta blocker does just fine to calm people down. Ive known a couple physicians who take a beta blocker before public presentations to help settle the mind down and focus. Its much better than a benzodiazepine (valium, etc...) for this effect and wont dull your mind. Of course, it is a prescription drug so should be taken under a physicians care.

Confidence and well prepardness are the only things you need. Know about the company and the position you are applying for. When I was younger I got baked before two interviews and got both of the jobs. Certainly didn't improve my interview skills, but it made me more insightful.

If you want to make absolutely sure you don't get the job, drink or take some drugs before the interview.

You may think you're calmer, but people looking at you carefully will see somethings not right.

Hindsight is 20 20, and looking back, that probably was one of the most stupidest ideas I've ever had. I will definately take y'alls advice and go in there the way I should. Thanks for the flaming to knock some good sense in me!lol

That was definately one of the stupidest ideas to ever cross my mind, thanks for knocking some sense into me with these flaming posts! I will definately go into this interview the way Im supposed to! Thanks

xanax, take it 1-2 hours before the interview because thats how long it takes to build up peak levels in the blood.

i find that being drugged up a bit makes me more relaxed and therefore less prone to doing stupid, or making an ass of myself. Think about it, are you going to feel more in control and appear more professional if you're pacing, twitching, stumbling for words, condemning yourself under your breath, etc or if you are mildly indifferent and numb?

I had a test on monday, and normally i am shaking but i took some xanax 2 hours before. i was calm during the test and i did better (89% this time, got an 83% last time). i dont know if the xanax helped or not but in the end i preferred to not be in the middle of a fight or flight response while trying to do something cognitive.

And in case anyone accuses me of blindly supporting the unpopular decision, i am not. I just find that in my experience being numb makes me more able to cognitively function under stress.

Just don't get tooooo numb. Then you're fucked.

First of all, a lot of companies see your drinking before an interview as a positive. Rolling up a spliff and passing it around will get you hired on the spot.

Don't be too hard on yourself. I've seriously considered doing this myself. There are some strong motivations for it in some of us. However, it's simply something we're better off learning to do without drugs.

If I were youk, I'd definitely do some good old speed(methamphetamine). anyone else out there picturing that guy on Trainspotting in his interview?

I second this. Xanax like having a few beers minus the slurred speach and foggy head.

If you are too up-tight, you will not be able to look your interviewer in the eye when you talk.. you will not come across as confident and you may get walked on...

Trust me.. Xanex.. Take 0.5mg once a few days before your interview so you can see how it feels and when it comes on. I recomend throwing it under your tounge or in your lip like Copenhagen. Trust me, your mind will be able to function much better on Xanax than alcohol.. You will appear more confident.. it will benefit you.

thats simple, masterbate.

Do you know what ... I bet that would work. You always seem relieved after. But only you might just want to leave the interview. hahaha. SO WHATS IT FOR??

well in school I would down a few beers... it sounds redneck-alcoholic but u dont know how much it helps me.

im relaxed.. which means I dont freak out if someone asks me a question that I cant answer and start stuttering and shit...

3 beers was my medicine before big presentations etc... of course I would need to brush my teeth, get some gum etc...

this was last year though, my anxiety problem since has suddenly started dissapearing so I can do it without any substance abuse..

drinbk green tea, or just take l-theanine in pill form. It is the only no-drowsy/drugging way to do it. If you are smart you'll listen to me.

I'd say...

You gotta be confident to begin with when going for an interview. Ttry and get a little laughter goinon, a LITTTLE. Now, I took some vicoden before a speech class I had a few years back and it was clear sailing. Not sure why a pain killer settled my nerves but I was a lot calmer for my 2nd speech than I was before the first one I had to give.

The thing about Xanax is you can sometimes slur your speech and not even know it. I know this for a fact. It's been pointed out to me.

as an earlier poster said...beta blockers...i take 40 mg of inderol about 1 hr before the interview...calm and clear as hell during any speaking situation...great for beating polygraphs...:D

some people are just naturally nervous, if you are...fix it!!!

to me the ultimate thing to up my confidence is to feel good- get pumped up.. literally- a short intense workout makes me feel good. some good music helps to get fired up too. then get out there and kick some ass!

i am in sales and have been doing it for over 15 years and have been quite successful. after hundreds of sales calls i STILL get nervous before appointments. i have tanked more than once.

by being totally prepared and taking control of the meeting i am successful 90% of the time. noone bats a 1000, but you will never win if you don't get up to bat. PREPARATION is the key.

an interviewer will respect you if he sees you have taken the time
to learn about the business/company.

Some individuals are naturally nervous ( sweating, heart beating fast, turning red,..). These are all the effects of whats known as Social anxiety Disorder (SAD). It has nothing to do with confidence or self esteem. These effects are due to hormonal imbalance or a prolonged learned behavior. It would be a bad idea to take vodka or any alcoholic beverages. The best fix for the moment would be taking Beta Blockers coupled with preparation(for the interview). It will do wonders.BTW, the job market these days is so competitive that nobody realy wants to hire anybody less than perfect relative to other candidates.

Are you serious? Yeah have a few drinks before the interview, that would make you a real winner... No offense bro, but this is the dumbest fucken I've ever come accross

take 20-40mg's of propranolol about 90 minutes before the interview. its a beta blocker that will keep your blood pressure from rising. it shouldnt be too hard to find either.

Yeah....Being nervous is actually very helpful in most cases. You just have to realize that people really can't tell how nervous you really are. Unless you're really bad and not be able to control it.

In a public speaking class I use to get so nervous before my speechs that I felt I couldn't do it.

If you know your stuff and have confidence you'll be less nervous.

Go in with a raging boner. They will be so nervous that you will seem calm, cool, and collected.

You will have absolute control of the interview as well.

O, No, the pleasure's all on this side of the table, believe me.
