A couple diet questions

OK well I have a couple questions...my diet is generally low in fat and carbs which may be why I feel lethargic most of the day...what foods can I add to up the fat intake a little?...will it harm my diet if I add a couple tablespoons of natural pb everyday? Or is that too much fat? I loveeeeee pb yum!

Also...my cravings are killer at night and if I eat another container of sugar-free jello I'll die lol...is it okay to have some fruit at night? Or is that too much sugar before I go to bed?

Good fats...Olive oil, flax oil, nat pb:) Just make sure you are only taking 2 tbsp of the pb, its easy to over do it! I have to keep it out of my house the closer a show comes, cause i have no self control when it comes to pb! What are your goals with the diet? How strict are you and what are you trying to do. I usually have some fruit in the am...like 1/2 grapefruit or a few strawberries. Try drinking lots of water to cure your sugar cravings....or eat some solid protein before bed, like egg whites or something.

if your...

Why is everyone so damn afraid of carbs?? eating some clean carbs (oatmeal, oatbran, sweet potatoes, brown rice) during the first half or three quarters of your day will kill that hunger and lethargic feeling.

I eat like a quarter cup or a third cup of oatmeal in my first four or five meals, and notice I have sustained energy, and a full stomach after I eat.

If you are keeping your fat low, then dig in!!! I wouldn't opt for the fruit at night, and also stick with the lower fat... Healthy fats are good when you know you are *too* low, but don't overdo it..

Just my suggestions... do what you like, but you can stay very very lean with some carbs... no kidding... don't kill yourself for the idea of commercialized dieting.

bebe,
the healthy oils N@GM mentioned are great on chicken, fish, vegies, salad.... definite benefits in making them part of the evening meal (although they should be added in other meals also)... really cuts the night time cravings when part of dinner
good luck :) hope it helps some

ARe you training for competition? If not and your body is craving it, then have it. Carbs are a wonderful thing. They are our primary source of energy. Energy needed to workout optimally. It's harder to do, but some bodybuilders don't that 12 week crash/high pro/low carb diet. They eat healthily throughout the year and when it gets closer to contest time, they increase their aerobics and cut down the fat. It's hard to do, but it's the best for your body.

I thought the purpose of working out is so we can eat all the crap we can

Not afraid of carbs here!!:D I was unsure of what her goals are and what she is trying to accomplish. I am personally dieting for a show so i only carb up every few days, and so i get cravings like a MOFO!! No need to be extreme if you are not dieting for a show etc. Yes carbs are very good for you and you need them, we need a lil more info on what you are trying to do with your bod.

Not dieting for a show or anything...just want some more energy....another question, I've hit a plateau with my diet/training....thought maybe if I cut out the carbs and up the fat for a week or so it would shock my metabolism and jump start it again...is this a good idea?

well, in ur first post u said u currently have a diet that is low fat/low carbs and u feel a lil tired... and uve also hit a plateau with ur training. i suggest instead of cutting the carbs more.. increase the carbs for a while. if u have been eating low carb...ur body will luv the sudden burst of carbs and energy. after a while of that u can go back to moderate or low carbs. by increasing ur carbs now ur body will then recognize when u limit them in ur diet and will respond better.

If you need more energy, and you have hit a plateau, then you need to adjust a few things...
First I recommend adding some more carbs.. they won't make you "fat" so long as you choose the right ones, and watch your fat. Stick around 1g/lb of bodyweight for carbs, try not to go under .75g/lb.

You also may want to consider changing your training a bit. I have no clue what your training consists of now, but to change it will only make your body respond positively...

Good Luck

buy some UDO'S iol from health food store and add 1/2 tablespoon to each meal. works really good to shed fat if you have low carbs and lots of UDO's and you'll be surprised you don't crave foods as much and you have lots of energy. great diet supplement.use it every contest prep.
