30 lbs in 3 months????

Night Fly

New member
I can't believe this....

My show got moved up a whole month. It is now at the end of August. I know that 3 months is how long everyone usually diets, but I wanted to take an extra month so that I could have a cheat day/meal every week. Plus...this will be my first contest, so I have NO clue how my body is going to react to the diet and extreme training.

I am SO excited, but nervous. There is NO room for error if I want to do this. It's all up to me now. I WANT it SO bad. I am taking monthly progress pics, so I will post and let everyone know how things are going. I will probably come here more for motivation, too. I will definitely need it.

So....everything starts Sunday. The diet, the endless hours of cardio, the starvation.... Those who have competed...PLEASE tell me this will be worth it. I haven't wanted something this bad in my entire life. I honestly don't care if I win or not (I want to SO bad, though...don't get me wrong), but just being able to step on that stage will be a MAJOR accomplishment for me.

Wish me luck everyone! :)

U go girl!

NF -

I did my first show ever as a novice last August. Was a nervous wreck for 4 months with training, dieting, cardio, etc. etc. etc. When I was about 3 weeks out I started stressing because I couldn't get my legs to lean out and I had kept asking my trainer about doing more leg work - she kept saying I looked great. Well.... from the after pix, I'd say I needed a lot more leg work. Was also told I could've used another 5 weeks of dieting.

A couple things I wanted to toss out, especially if you have had 30 days shaved off your schedule - if you aren't ready, don't do that show. There are usually plenty of competitions running in the middle of the year. That way you aren't doing desperation stuff to lose weight. A lot of the guys I know who have done shows over the years actually do their training/dieting for a year before the show. Also, which ever show you do, work on your posing!!!! Nothing gives you more confidence on stage than knowing that you can present your stuff with the best of them. My first show I did a lot of the guy-style posing - looked pretty bad. I learned the "right" way, i.e. graceful hardness and was much more comfortable with my presence on stage.

Plus posing is a *great* way to condition! Some of those judges like to hold you in a pose for a looooooooooong time. I don't know what you are doing for your posing, but start practicing now, and build up so you are doing it for 30 min a couple times a week, holding each manditory for 30 - 60 sec. Then work on transitions, quarter turns, etc. Helps if you don't fall over on stage because you weren't comfortable in a particular pose or your muscles decided to lock up!

Probably help to video tape your quarter turns, 60 sec and night routine as well (I'm assuming this is a bb and not fitness...). I didn't know I made the faces I did until I saw it on tape. Jeez. Make sure you SMILE!

And BTW, when the show is over, give your self a couple days to relax and enjoy some real food, but ease back into the diet again and avoid all the junk w/ salt and heavy carbs - you will blow up like a balloon and retain water like crazy otherwise.

Good luck! Have fun with it! I would never regret the experience!

Thanks Sassy. I will be sure to take all that into consideration.

My posing instructor is a very good one. We work together 3-4 times a week at about 45min-1 hr. at a time. It wears me out, but I know that I need it. Thanks a bunch! :)

Knock em dead...

I never post here...but I wanted to bump this to the top for FlyGirl. I know that you will do well NF. All your dedication and hard work will be worth it. And you are right...just having the confidence to step on stage will be a major victory for your self esteem. I wish you all the luck in the world. I know how much this means to you. Just want you to know that we will all be here for you.

And listen to Sassy and SMILE:D

30 lbs in 3 months, that equals 2 to 3 lbs per week. I guess you should aim for 3 lbs loss per week, or even more at the beginning, to allow for the slowdown in weight loss that inevitably creeps up on you in the final days as you strive to lose those last 5 lbs.

Yeah 30lbs sounds like a lot, but bet I'll bet 3-5 of it comes off as water in the first few weeks of the diet, and I'll bet another 3-5 come off when you dehydrate in your last week. So it is possible to lose 20-25lbs of fat (realistically maybe 20lbs of fat and 5lbs of muscle unless you're using AS). It would be better if you could postpone until another later show like Sassy said. Otherwise go for it and never look back :)
