14th Amendment. Is this okay?

It's even more amazing we as Americans put up with this crap. Just cause you're here and having a baby does not entitle your child citizenship. You are a citizen of the country you parents are from. The 14th amendment was meant for slaves born in this country to be citizens, not illegals sneaking in.

We need more sane citizenship rules that can be established via constitutional amendment. Our current system puts a huge drain on our social services, our schools and our economy in general.

This would be a perfect cause for someone to demonstrate leadership. You know, like a president who promised to unite us with a new kind of politics.

Would denying these people the freedoms and rights within our jurisdiction go against the very beliefs/philosophies we preach accross the globe?

Its almost like we have put ourselves in a pickle, we have allowed this to go on for so long Im not really sure what we can do to fix it without causing problems.

These particular mothers are leaving the country after they have their babies. It's weird. They are not trying to give their children a life in America. It's more like a citizenship insurance policy just in case. Worse?

But we aren't denying them their individual rights while they are here.

That's the issue at stake: Being on our soil does guarantee you to due process and other individual rights (fair trials, right to not self-incriminate, speedy trials). What it shouldn't confer is citizenship rights regardless of how you were born here.

Picture this: If a woman murdered several border agents and made it one foot over the border to have her baby, does anyone here think the baby should automatically receive citizenship?

I think is b/s all the way around. I just know how we seem to get ourselves in binding situations that make it difficult for any real change to occur.

In the future, perhaps you should try to actually learn something about a subject before making yourself look like a complete idiot.

Interpretation college boy..

1866 "The Supreme Court essentially stated that the status of the parents determines the citizenship of the child. To qualify children for birthright citizenship, based on the 14th Amendment, parents must owe "direct and immediate allegiance" to the U.S. and be "completely subject" to its jurisdiction. In other words, they must be United States citizens."

"The phrase "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" was intended to exclude American-born persons from automatic citizenship whose allegiance to the United States was not complete. With illegal aliens who are unlawfully in the United States, their native country has a claim of allegiance on the child. Thus, the completeness of their allegiance to the United States is impaired, which therefore precludes automatic citizenship."
