10 x 10's

Anyone try these before? I've been on this new training program and it's the same for the first seven weeks.

Monday: Chest, Triceps, Shoulders
Wednesday: Legs
Friday: Back, Biceps

But now I'm doing 10 x 10's to try to shock my muscles into more growth. Anyone try this before, and how were the results? I'm on Week 2/3 and they are kicking my ass.

Correct me if I am wrong, but is 10 x 10 Bulgarian training? I have tried it before, but it didn't like it because I felt like I was only pumping up the muscles and training them to death.

I'm currently doing 8x8s - Vince Gironda's program. Tom Venuto wrote it up in an issue of iron man. It's supposed to be a purely cosmetic mass builder (i.e., you won't necessarily gain strength). I started doing these 6 weeks ago (BTW I'm pre-contest). I LOVE them - especially for a pre-contest workout. Talk about combining cardio w/ a lift. I've honestly been able to cut down my cardio thanks to this workout. Plus, my muscles are nice and full; my chest measurement is largest it's ever been, and that's after dieting hardcore for 8 weeks.

It does kick your ass, but it's also a good challenge and change of pace.

I tried the 10x10 german volume deal, brutal workout but I didn't gain anything

I did Polquin's version. Two month program. It is brutal... but I got great results.

I tried to repeat it later. I never got good results again.

yup, it's german volume training. tmag has info on it, as well as a newer version, GVT2000, which attempts to solve some of the negative aspects of regular gvt. i haven't tried it, but plan too sometime this semester.

Yeah, I've heard they don't increase strength directly, but once you get back to heavy training you will start gaining again. It's just a change of pace for a few weeks.
