Funny, this is one of the reasons I could not be with my last ex. We would be out and women would come up to him and give them their numbers in front of me. Fuck, I would never behave like that, but women were falling at his feet wherever he went.

I think you misunderstand. I'm not tough looking at all. I look like a sweet girl next door who wouldn't harm a fly, which is mostly true.
But I am, like the current person I'm dating, high profile without even trying. We share the "random people come up to us" factor. When we are out together, I am clearly with him, he is clearly with me - in a confident/relaxed way, not clingy/insecure. There are subtle ways to neutralize "competition." Someone hitting on a guy I was with in front of me would have to be not only bold, but probably really drunk, and really really stupid. Women are supposed to be good at reading subtle signals - so yeah, your presence and body language DOES come into play.
I'm not saying anything about your presence, so don't get defensive with any of this post. Just speaking of my own personal experience and observation.
