25 weeks of Project Hulk 2012

sterolizer

Sorry for PartyRocking
Platinum
Here's the plan, bulk while building as much mass, and strength without getting too fat. The entire plan is going to be Bulk over this year of 2012, and beginning of next jan/feb, I'll begin cutting for the national qualifiers which is held in June of 2013.

Over these next 25 weeks, I will be working a 5x5 routine. Which will look like this.

Workout A: 5x5 squats. 5x5 bench press. 5x5 BB reverse rows. 5x5 French press.

Workout B: 5x5 squats. 5x5 BB Overhead press. 5x5 Deadlift. 5x5 Drag curls

Mon:A, Wed:B, Fri:A
Mon:B, Wed:A, Fri:B
Etc.

So here is how the first workout went last night before I really learned how the program works.

Squat:
1x5 295lb
1x5 295lb
1x5 275lb
1x5 225lb
1x5 225lb

BB bench press:
1x5 225lb
1x5 205lb
1x5 185lb
1x5 150lb
1x5 150lb

BB reverse rows:
1x5 225lb
1x5 225lb
1x5 225lb
1x5 185lb
1x5 185lb

French press/ didn't do this, never had time.

So obv what I did is not how the real 5x5 program is run but I will start with what ZED has given me and start about 50% of the weight next time. But want to figure out my max of 5x5 for each weight, then use 50% of that weight to start, and to add 5lbs to each exercise, every workout, over the next 25 weeks.

I will be working with ZEDHED, he's going to have me dialed in that's for sure!

LOL my good bro is off to say an ambitious start here. When I saw that workout I dam near dropped my Big Mac! We gonna get it dialed in tbo and rhis bro is gonna be truely awsome so stay tuned right here.

Totally subbed to this, great title name too lol I love it! 5x5 made me and I loved the gains ..... Good luck bro ;)

As you can all see SL has a gr8 foundation to start with. No extra Lbs at all.
The plan is totally about adding slabs of muscle on this bro. He has the determination, the program, the "help" and the winners tude.
Watch this guy rock!:magilicut:garza:

I'm sore as f*ck today, after yesterdays workout, that's for sure. I was dreading working out today, but I think starting at 50% of the weight I used for 5 reps max will be fine for now. I'm also going to try to keep rest to under 2 mins, until the weights start getting heavier, then I will need more time.

Here is what Zed, and I discussed for macros. As you can see he broke it down pretty good.

Consume a diet consisting roughly of 40 to 50 percent carbs, 30 to 40 percent protein, and 25 to 35 percent fat while following a clean bulking diet. While most of your meals should contain a fair blend of the three macronutrients, the meals before and after your workout should consist of just carbs and protein (in a 2:1 ratio) with minimal fat. This approach will avoid the slowdown in digestion that occurs from fat consumption, helping to shuttle more nutrients into your muscles when you need them most--to prepare you for an impending workout and to recover from a completed workout. Beyond that, each meal you consume should be roughly aligned with the listed percentages--most of the meal should consist of healthy carbs such as fruits, vegetables, brown rice, whole grains and sweet potatoes; a moderate portion of the meal should consist of lean protein from low-fat meat, chicken, turkey, eggs or seafood, and a smaller portion of the meal should contain healthy fat from fat-containing fruit (think avocados), nuts, seeds or healthy cooking oils like olive or coconut. Aim to consume just enough calories to add roughly a pound per week, as this slow but steady rate of gains should be sufficient to enable you to add maximal size without adding excessive fat to your waistline.

Sample Meals
A sample breakfast while on a clean bulking diet might consist of several scrambled eggs, a bowl of oatmeal with blueberries and Cinnamon and several fish oil capsules. A sample lunch might consist of a large garden salad with several grilled chicken breasts, and a few tablespoons of natural peanut butter. A sample dinner might be a lean cut of flank steak served with a sweet potato and a spinach and tomato salad with olive oil or balsamic dressing. As a snack throughout the day, consider blending up protein powder in milk with berries and a tablespoon or two of natural peanut butter for a healthy high-calorie shake to help you reach your goals.

Well I'm going to start the 5x5 today, Workout A tues, Workout B thurs, Workout A sat, and the flip it over to starting on Monday once I finish off the week this Saturday. I'll be using 50% of the weights I used here, and hopefully I can keep momentum, and not have to set a restart throughout the program.

Well if OWL is subbed...so am I, will be nice to see your slow but steady progress! Kill it bro!

Hey bro how come you chose SLDL instead of conventional?

Hey bro how come you chose SLDL instead of conventional?

Hmm, good question. I've always felt I can hit my back and hamstrings better when I SLDL, then conventional, I'm sure once I get into heavier weights I will do conventional to take some of the load off my lower back

Yeah i would highly recommend switching bro. If you don't you will end up like my old ass with a bad lower back. Lmao

Day one: 30sec rest between each set.

Squat:
5x5 145lb

BB Bench press:
5x5 135lb

BB reverse row:
5x5 115lb

French press:
5x5 55lb

Ok I guess thats ok for now. Dont forget that on the DLs you only do 2 sets of 5. Otherwise its just too much. You could alternate Rack Pulls with DL if you wanna.

Subbed for this! Good luck bro!

Thanks for following max!

Alright I will do that, and hey, the first workout felt actually really light, but I guess the weight adds up fast after 2 of the same workouts a week and after 12 weeks I can imagine it gets heavy. So really every week you're going up 10lbs in the exercises

Totally agree the weight will soon be heavy ;), diet and macros look great to me , very interesting as I'm looking at a clean bulk soon so good for tips ! Thank you. ;)

10lbs a week, with a 12 week program is 120lbs. So in theory squat should be 265lbX5, bench 256lbX5, BB rows 235lbX5, OH shoulder press 190lx5, Deadlift 255lbX5. French press, and curls ill worry about the numbers ater

So today felt really light for workout B, here it is,

Squat
5X5 145lbs

BB OH shoulder press
5x5 65lb

Deadlift
5x5 115lb

DB curls
5x5 22.5lb

Followed by 10 mins inclined treadmill. Felt really light today, I'll see how I feel tomorrow

So not sore really at all this morning, starting at 50% of 5 rep max weight is really going to feel like nothing (thats why I'm keeping rest a max of 30 sec right now) till I start getting further in the weeks and the 5lbs added to each workout twice a week will add up fast enough I'm sure. I just hope I started low enough with my starting weights, so I don't hit a plateau and have to pull a restart in the middle of the program

LOL yep bro. Thats why I keep telling peeps about this program. If you follow it, feed it and get enough rest you just cant help but get big and strong. And also as I said most peeps start out too heavy. You did the math so you can see the progression and how fast it gets dam heavy.
Might wanna back off on the weight that your using for that French press too bro. Thats gonna be a hell of a lot real soon.
Nice session tho. Keep up the good work man!

Lol I know man, I just used a heavier weight to find my 5 rep max, because I didn't get the time the Monday before to try it out. So tonight I'll be using a lighter weight
Nice session tho. Keep up the good work man!

Thanks man, I'm looking forward to Monday
And I'll update later this evening the numbers after my workout. Haha well actually all it's going to be is last workout A +5lbs for every exercise lmao sorry to spoil it

REMEMBER TO EAT!!!!!
Eat clean and EAT LOTS!
That will help you immensely on this program to get the most out of it.
That OHP looks kinda high to me bro...

Here's the numbers

Squat:
5x5 150lbs

BB Bench press:
5x5 140lbs

BB reverse row:
5x5 120lbs

French press:
5x5 30lbs

Eat!!!

How you doin bro?

subbed bro...

also will get back to that PM you sent me a week ago... didnt mean to forget but been super busy at work- also adjusting to working days after being on nights for the last 10 years so my clock is off...

How you doin bro?

Hey zed how often and how much fat burning/cardio should I be doing every week?

Squat
5X5 155lbs

BB OH shoulder press
5x5 70lb

Deadlift
5x5 120lb

DB curls
5x5 27.5lb

Followed by 10 mins inclined treadmill.

LOL WTF bro?
Dude your already lean. The only cardio you do for now is 10 WU on the bike.
You can take a walk a couple of times per week but thats it man!
If you do cardio at your current size your gonna negate mass build up and thats not what we want right now.
Hey bro would also love to see a food log in here. There are a lot of em online that you can use for free. The only part thats a PIA is getting them set up with your fav foods. But you only need to do it once then just keep adding on.
Actually I need for you to be getting all the rest that you can. As I remember you said that you have a fast metab anyway. So for cardio is out my frnd.
With a clean diet it should not be an issue for us on this program for the first 25 weeks.

I never ever do cardio, just walking incline tread, maybe I'll lower that to just one 10 min walking session per week? What do you think? I always just warm up with an empty bar and the movement, I've never been a fan of warming up on a bike, or any other machine.

I'll look for a food program or app here today to start a food log.

Eat, eat, eat

I mean the routine alone I'm sure is taxing enough on fat burning anyways, I mean by the time I'm done my workout I have beads of sweat dripping from everywhere

Stero I'm subbed mate. Dunno how I missed this before now!

I agree with OWL, SLDL and good mornings I stay away from, I've had too many lower back probs to mess with them! But standard deadlifts, have really helped sort my back out, I rarely get any probs with my back now.

Hey mate good to see you over here bro!

Jesus fucking shit im in a bad mood, I haven't ate since noon and it's 11pm... Fuck I hate farming, so fucking useless.

Hey buddy just stopping by to check on ya, hope all is well, farming bless ya long bloody hours manual work and training on top you do well ;)

Bro D'you mean farming or fasting?

Hey bro the not eating once in a while isnt the end of the world my good man.
And thanks for feeding the rest of us!
I certainly do appreciate all you good farmers.
So when that happens the very vest thing that you can do is have a really fuckin big sirloin steak and a shake.
Then call it a night.

Lmao! I had the same thing Saturday at my fight. Ate all my food too soon and was really grumpy come fight time!

Here's how tonight looked

Squat:
5x5 155lbs

BB Bench press:
5x5 145lbs

BB reverse row:
5x5 125lbs

French press:
5x5 35lbs

Second that. I use myfitnesspal it's great! And easy to use. :)

Here's tonight + I'll post my food diet here after I shower

Squat
5X5 160lb

BB OH shoulder press
5x5 75lb

Deadlift
5x5 135lb

DB curls
5x5 30lb

That's some eating bro, I'm on 3,500+ cals per day, I gain weight on that and I got something like 35kg ( about 80lbs) on you.
My macros come out around 33/33/33 most days and I'm still getting leaner. Cool huh? :)

Agree with Moya.
And I really like that app. Looks good, easy to read and easy to use.
Looking good in here bro.
You can play around a little bit with your macros and see what you respond to best.

Here's how tonight looked

Squat:
5x5 155lbs

BB Bench press:
5x5 145lbs

BB reverse row: Bring this up and maintain it within 10 Lbs of your bench press bro. Its important for your shoulder health. Also if your gonna do reverse then alternate each workout with regular. Reverse hits more of your biceps and thats fine but we also wanna load your mid and upper back.
5x5 125lbs

French press:
5x5 35lbs

Nice job bro.
How you like this SL 5x5 so far?

Subbed, Can't wait to see the end result! Looking good bro, lean as hell!
Thanks for following bro!

Nice job bro.

Thanks Zed, I like it so far, can't wait to get into the heavier weights

I know I think I still need to eat more, yet. Ill throw in another 2-300 calories

thats what i like to see with a 5x5... lots of carbs  very necessary for gaining any respectable amount of strength and utmost muscular gains...
That is true my friend!!

Macros look good bro!

Yesterday was a shit ass day for eating, I had a funeral to go to in the afternoon yesterday, and campfire food to eat for the next 10hrs after that. This is what it looked like.

Shit yours is better than mine! I just moved back to Cali from Ok. I made it in about 30 hours only stopping for gas. Anyway I tried eating subway when I could and choked down 10 monsters to stay awake. I didn't even come near my goal! It's gonna be a rough recovery for me lol.

Lol shit man, today was even worse, I got around 4000 calories, but a ton of carbs and only 160g of protein in total today. Things will get straightened around tomorrow. I want to get at least 200g of protein per day from now on.

Oh my dayz bro! What were you eating?? A McDonald's burger and a cup of lard? Lol! :D

Tonight's workout.

Squat:
5x5 165lb

BB Bench press:
5x5 150lb

BB row:
5x5 150lb

French press:
5x5 40lb

I must ask, are you doing these to the extreme that you can't hardly walk.doesn't look like a lot to me.
But! I applaud you for the effort! :)

No, not at all it's still pretty light weight yet. But I guess that's how the program is run, I took my max 5x5 squat of 295lb and cut it in half, and you add 5lbs to every exercise each workout. So eventually somewhere down the line in week 14-15 I'll be in higher weights using the 5x5.

I keep rest at a max of 30 seconds right now to increase the workload a bit while the weights are still lighter.

Oh my dayz bro! What were you eating?? A McDonald's burger and a cup of lard? Lol! :D

Hahaha that was the 2 subway breakfast sandwiches, 1 bag of Doritos cool ranch, 2 monster coffees, 8 monster originals and a gallon of water (no value but tried to hydrate) I had on my to Cali.

I tried to make it as fast as I could cause I hate driving so I drove straight through. It was kinda hard to eat healthy while driving that far. I got a LOT of making up to do though!

It's just one day, long road trips, and driving is the worst though

You could try doing the reps very slowly, that'll increase the difficulty.....

Damn 30 hours driving. You can go from one end of the uk to the other and back again in less than a day! Lol!

Dam good on the rows, getting them up bro.

RADAR he is starting out exactly as he should be on the 5x5. In this program you add weight to every workout every week.
In order for him not to need to do a reset midway thru the program I advise him to start out with very light weights. The progression becomes monstrous believe me bro.

Am dam glad to see you in here too bro!

I call the beginning part the phase to ready all of the connective tissues for the work to soon come.
The first time that I did the 5x5 I started my bench press off at 105. I ended at 315.....:supercool

Yeah but you can go FAST and thats KOOL!
Post up Stero!!

Hey brothers everything is going good, sorry I've been busy the last few days. I just got a new job, and I'm driving up north 6hrs to red earth, a camp job tomorrow morning. I'll be there for 2 week shifts and one week off. Luckily they have a gym where I'm staying. Suppose to be like a 300 room camp, which is decent sized. I'll buy all my groceries when I get down there. I'll also bring a grill and lots of canned tuna, blender, and a rice cooker

Sounds good bro. What kind of camp bro?

It's a service rig, I work as a medic. Speaking of which I've been feeling a little short of breath since Monday night. Went to the doctor today to get it checked out. Turns out I have a chest infection. It's only 4 days of pills so I think I'm going to skip out on the gym this week and start again next Monday let all my recovery go into getting rid of this chest infection

I just don't want to risk anything and end up with pneumonia again like in January. Having your lungs full of fluid is really not a good time
