losing fat without cardio

New member
do u all think i can lose a significant amount of fat in a pretty short time frame if i stick to a 1500 cal diet and 2-3 days of weights. (no cardio)per week. my job makes it very tough to fit cardio in. (if i come home dead tired isnt it better that i rest my body in between days rather than push myself-which is in a sense setting myself up for becoming sick? I am almost 23, 5'8 ,roughly 155 lb (give or take a few depending on how much water i'm holding onto). thanks!

jenny, you can still lose fat without any cardio.. The main thing is the 1500 cals you consuming needs to be from good choices

Yes you can do no cardio and still lose fat. What is your diet and exercises history? Are you new to working out? How about eating clean?

Diet is the #1 most important thing. Give us more information about your food choices - we can tweak it into a very clean diet. :)

Assuming you already know good form and have been lifting....Lift HARD and HEAVY. Focus on compound exercises.

You can also make your training session a "cardio session" by keeping your rest intervals shorter and as they said above, going "balls to the wall"!

Or you can also add 30 seconds of plyometrics after every set, along with keeping your rest time short.

ok my main problem is trying to keep the cals low. i've always had this problem and it has been why i can't lose some fat like i want. i love food too much :worried: anyways for breakfast i usually have one or two eggs with either a slice of fat free cheese or a low-fat sausage patty on 2 slices of whole-wheat bread. (i'm sick of oatmeal, cereal sucks and this seems to be something that keeps me the fullest.) for lunch i usually have a sandwich on wheat bread or a grilled chicken wrap (if i just eat chicken, i won't be able to last until 7:30 or 8 when i get home for dinner and for the most part i am pretty busy during the day and don't have snacks). for dinner i'm not too picky, but i try to keep it within my calorie range. but then i always seem to eat more than i wanted more days than others bc i am tired and cold and hungry.

You're diet is going to have to change.
Lose everything that comes in a box and anything that says "low fat".

no cheese, no sausage, no wraps and I would lose all bread period.

Get all your carbs from veggies (if it's green eat it), 1/2 cup of rice or 1/2 large (or 1 small) yam/sweet potato no more than two meals.

Make up 4-5 small meals from the list below, a veggie and a protein or rice/yam with protein - still hungry eat more veggies and salad. Figure out your day's calories and go in backwards and divide your amount of meals to get the serving size per meal.

all green veggies
peppers (red yellow)
chicken
fish
pork
lean beef
eggs
almonds, walnuts, pecans
avocado (in moderation)
olive oil (salads/ veggies)

Try and drink a gallon of water or more per day.

After you lose some weight - if your loss starts to stall you can drop some calories but try not to go under 1200.
