I have been looking at some of the thread posted on here today, and noticed that little by little decency is escaping this forum and being replaced with outrageousness. Its seems more and more like people are posting for "shock value" over giving legitimate opinions or making a good argument...


What do you think? Would you like to see Chat be more about civilized conversation and exchanging of opinions with a humorous edge? Or do you like the fact members are allowed to "shock" us with their outrageousness and entertain us with their insults?

insults sometimes are funny. The shock value is good for the most part. gets people to think. I just started posting over here and like it so far. Some topics are dumb some are good.
 
Personally I think the shock crap is just that CRAP. It kind of saddens me that you can't get a real answer to an honest question. I'm also sick of the non-stop political crap could we have a forum for that shit? Those always degrade into mud slinging, no real opinions are voiced, and basically they waste space. I'm not sure how to go about "cleaning" up in a decency sense of the word since a lot of people will have a different standard for what is polite, decent, and civilized.

I think politics/ humor/ shock are all good.

I think that when every thread or comment is mo/ or gay shit for the sake of just saying something gay it gets stupid and genuinely takes away from the site. A gay rights or whatever thread can be interesting. All those other dumb fucking ones are a waste.
 
The ironic thing is posts made simply for shock value land far from their intention (to highlight how 'edgy' the originator is)....Sergei Eisenstein was edgy....Rothko was edgy...James Joyce was edgy. C&C...not so much :D

BRR - you, me and a few other logical folks here know that this place right now is mere shambles of what is used to be in terms of "shock" and "decency" (your terms, definitely not mine). The only difference is that it used to be presented in witty and well thought out ways. Now it's just boring. But either way, the only that has changed around here is admin's decision (which is 100% theirs to make, no qaulms about it) to selectively censor as much as possible.

Let's keep it real. Everything you are talking about comes down to subjectivity and censorship. And it's 100% your's and admin's call to make. No doubt about that.
 
I'm for non-censorship. It's what will make this place great.. If someone is highly offensive, I'll put them on ignore.. Of course there are exceptions when some people go over the top..

Btw, You're all a bunch of cunts.
 
You guys already took away everything fun about this forum...if you take away the shock threads, what's left? I can't stand the one liner/gay threads that go 20 pages and contain about 75 words total, but you'll have that.

If you take away anything else, you'll have to rename this to the "Stick Up My Butt" forum because only boring people will bother to post here. Lestat will still be here of course.

most people who get into those kinds of arguements dont even care about anyone's opinion but their own....so on the internets when nobody "has to listen to anybody" and everyone can be a hardass, "discussions" (arguements) get nowhere and make things even more rude..

anyways, the little kid shock value posts are still more mature than grown men trying to "logically" explain why arabs and muslims are inherantly violent, gays are evil, blacks are dumber, and all the other retarded topics that always used to get debated here
 
I like loose rules that allow us to post a variety of things and subjects. I have a tough time coloring insides the lines. Probably why I'm banned pretty much everywhere else. :(

I have gotten many laughs out of stupid posts and also had many serious discussions. I think that there has been an overwhelming supply of silly stupid threads created more so than in the past where as having decent conversations would be nice. I will be honest, cause I always am. I will let you know what I would like to see
I would like to see more serious discussions with less jokey shit threads. Maybe have a few shit threads through the day where people can go in and mess about to relieve boredom or to be funny. I myself like to debate and chat about serious subjects. And since I first joined elite these types of threads have been less and less in frequency. I know my post will probably piss people off or may get nasty replies however you asked me what I thought so I told you!

I think that trying to enforce a change would be stifling and oppressive, and would only be seen as an improvement by a few people who prefer order over freedom.

This also looks like a preview of things to come. I sense a new round of fun-killing on the way.

there is still the occasional serious thread too.

mandating all C&C threads be a certain way, as opposed to allowing freedom, will just make it so NOTHING gets posted here...
 
We do have an ignore option still, right? If a poster is annoying you, put them on ignore. Problem solved.

Agree. Any lack of quality posters here today can be traced to previous draconian Admin crackdowns and policy changes.
 
What I find interesting is that waaaaaaaay back in the day the chat board was unbelievably entertaining, rapier wit and jocularity at its best and it was when the least amount of utter nonsense was tolerated.

I still remember all the ridiculous splinter boards that were offshoots where the banned sheep would flock to have "wreckless abandon - all out high school sophmoric garbage, NO RULES OR CENSORSHIP WHATSOEVER"... where are those boards today?

Well I can understand your view and your point clearly however I am not saying eliminate all shit threads all together. However something has to be done to make c&c a tad bit more appealing. Imagine what a guest thinks when they pop into C&c and all the threads are stupid bullshit or parody threads.Do you really think they will want to register and go plat which in turn financially assists the site? No, they will probably spread word that elite fitness is full of nonsense.
I dont think that nothing will get posted here, however I do believe that the people who constantly make the shit threads will fail to post here any longer because they will have nothing intelligent to post on and honestly is that really going to damage this site?
 
I know there are a lot of different forums already, but maybe one more, sort of in the domain of chat, but called something like 'the swamp', or 'the dump' where fragile egos need not tread and anything goes...............

I do find it disconcerting to have threads about sick children next to something like I just had a big poo type of thread.

I agree, I hate seeing stories about child abuse and such next to a thread about how some one ate some food and now needs to relieve themselves. It seems a bit childish and immature and really needs its own home.

Actually, no it isn't funny. I am talking about the people who come here and sites like it. I can guarantee you that many people who post on elite also go to AT LEAST one or two other offshoots... Some eventually migrate away while others toggle back and forth. I myself used to post a bit here and there. But got tired of it all and liked elite best so here I have stayed.

I've watched it for years.

Do you ever think some of the vocal minority just don't find these serious threads quality enough? I like how everyone is so quick to judge people for making silly posts. You see... there are things I do, ways I behave. Some things are appropriate in front of my daughter - others are not. Simple. I make those decisions as to whats appropriate without hardly a thought. Do you know how to?
