Workouts for Basketball

go to www.terminalvertical.8m.com

it has lot's of program's on it for your vertical. email me if u have any questions.

I played ball in college...our strength and conditioning coach was a recruiter for the chicago bulls...and very close to their strength and conditioning coach. I'm 6'2"...can't jump like I did in college anymore but can still dunk a ball pretty good. Dunking is the last thing you worry about in basketball though in terms of jumping. Power in your legs is what you need obviously...

My advice from my experiences:

Run hills. Get a backpack...put some weight in it...and sprint up and down steps or hills. This is good.

STAY THE F#$K away from those Calf shoes. They're a waste of money. To prove it. Stand straight up...and jump just using your calves. Don't bend your knees.

Get weights...maybe a 15 or 20lb. weight in each hand. Pick a point on the wall...stare at it...and JUMP...jump as hard as you can. You'll get maybe 3 inches off the ground...but you'll be surprised at the results. Do that for 5 sets...then do 3 50 yard dashes with 2 minutes rest in between each one.

Lift to replicate what you want to accomplish. When you're doing your squats...go down slowly...not ridiculously slow...but...then explode up as hard as you can as if you are jumping. But don't jump...bad idea when doing squats..ha.

Tips on your vertical...one big thing...when planting and jumping off two feet...point your toes as hard as you can straight at the ground. Exaggerate it...you'll get another inch or two.

Good luck. And I'm no expert...but these things are what I did...and I was dunkin' on people something I never could do in highschool.

FOR THE FLAMERS: No I'm not making this up...haha...I played ball for a DivI NAIA school. Saint Vincent College...Conference champs in '98...elite 8 in the national tournament. WOO HOO

Good luck dude.

I have a pair of the Strength shoes... and have been using them once a week for about a month now...

I play in a couple of leagues.. and I consider myself a pretty good athlete.. but I do admit that I don't have the best hops. So, I bought the shoes in desperation.

I work out mostly at the park.. (the grass is a lot better on the knees than concrete) and I do box jumps and depth jumps on the picnic tables.

I have noticed a little bit of improvement in my jumping.. and my outer calves have gotten bigger.. I definately feel more stable and powerful on the court though..
My balance and footwork have seemed to improve and I am better able to make power movements.

I also work legs once a week.

Barbell Squats
Lying Squat Machine (explosive- feet seperate from stand about 4 inches or so)
Leg Extensions
Romanian Bent Knee Dead Lifts
Calf Raises (explosive- but feet don't leave stand. Pause is at the top of the movement.. then down and explode back up)

I am a 5'8 shooting guard. Undersized for a SG, I know, but not many people can shoot the trey like me. I wish I had a point guard mentality but I have a shooter's mentality.. and my handles are not up to par for a really good point guard. Maybe too much info for you.. but whatever.. thats my background.

The shoes were about $100.. worth a try.. calves were really, really, really sore after the first couple of times.. but I guess I am getting used to it now.

You'll get results from using them...but watch what happens when you stop using them...about a week later...results are gone. Everyone I've seen that has used them has said the same thing. Good luck!

i used strenght shoes for a wile...they sucked..once i stopped ussing them i saw improvment.

lift some weights and do some plyometrics and u will b fine..i doubled by vertical leap in a short time using the werkout from high powerd plyometrics book and lifting weights 4 times a week..following the unc f-ball training program

i used air alert 2 the vertical jump program, did'nt do much really, i found just playing and runnig(sprinting) hard improved my jump....i was squating in the gym at that time aswell though.
