Why wont the belly go??

Hi

Ive been on a diet for just over 5 weeks now and have lost a lot of weight around 17 lbs at last weigh in which was on the 1st of feb. My training consists of doing a body part a day heavyish full intensity. Followed by some around 15-20 of treadmil running, 30 mins eliptical both high intensity and then followed up with some calf raises and situps every day. I Have one day off a week. Some days i cut my treadmil run and in the morning run up and down the beach. My diet is super clean with low carb, high Protien volume.

The main aim of my diet and training is to reduce fat and increase my running speed and capacity for a upcoming fitness test.

No doubt the diet is working as im loosing weight and my face has lost a lot of weight problem is my belly just wont shift ! Is there a reason for this ? or something i can do for some spot reduction ?

Cheers

Re: Why wont the belly go ??

youi can't spot reduce
give it time and change your diet a little and your workout .
calf / abs don't have to be trained every day ........i personally think that they should be train as any other muscle of the body . you have tyo give those rest to grow .you know ?
you should also post some stat's about diet , training and body composition ......that would make it easier to help you out

Re: Why wont the belly go ??

Well im 14 st 11, muscluar but with a decent bit of fat i was a former full time 19st bodybuilder but my focus has changed since then. Sorry i train the claves every other day they are so weak that they make it hard when i run and i need them up to speed.

My Diet Conists of

Bfast - Protien Shake with water, Cheerios + semi skim milk or 2 Bits of weight Watchers Toast and sometimes a black plain coffee

I Train around 2 hours after bfast

Post Training Protien Shake with water

Lunch (i work nights so have my main meal around 2ish) Pork/Chicken/Lean steak Grilled george foreman grill, portion of vegtables and 1 serving of low fat cottage cheese.

Evening meal - Either Packet of low fat chicken chunks or 1 can of tuna in springwater/

Before Bed - Protien shake with water.

After 2 pm its hard for me to take on any more food as i work full time nights. Every 3 days i have a high carb day with quality high grain carb sources with every meal.

Re: Why wont the belly go ??

Hi there,

yup, you cannot spot reduce. Having a belly is just a matter of Body Fat %. Both men and women tend to accumulate fat easily in different body areas.

Only way to see that belly go is to recuce your body fat %... you may need to go to the very lower 10's to see the results you need.

Some peopel need to go to 6 - 8% before they can see any abs... (I know you don't want to see abs), but your body will drop the fat last where it has been longer...

Re: Why wont the belly go ??

Acording to a body fat machine i have its says my body mass index is 29 % mind this thing only cost a couple of pounds and i do not think it can possibly take into account the large amount of muscle mass i have because i would no way say im that high

Re: Why wont the belly go ??

Body mass index its just a cheapo machine you put ur height and weight in and then hold two metal pads.

Re: Why wont the belly go ??

Think of fat loss like draining a pond from the center, the areas around the bank will disapate 1st, and the area in the middle will be last.

This is why u can see the fat loss in your face and extremedies 1st, but unfortunatley, pintoca is right , you may have to get your bf down to the low 10s, before the dredded love handles/mid section are affected !

Thats just the way it is....

Re: Why wont the belly go ??

It's already been said - it's just the amount of bodyfat you have and where your body likes to store it.

How about you get a body fat test done - old fashion calipers will do well.

Re: Why wont the belly go ??

well think about it, have you ever seen a guy with a six-pack with fat arms or a chubby neck/face...etc?

Re: Why wont the belly go ??

I always lose the fat in my lower stomach last...

As for your diet, I don't see any healthy fats in there at all!! Dietary fat is not your enemy, and will actually help your weight loss.

I'd suggest having some carbs with your post-workout protein (preferably simple carbs) especially if your lifting intensely. You might also combine a carb source (more veggies?) with your evening meal. You can add some healthy fat into your diet with your pre-bed protein shake. Throw in some flax oil or some natty peanut butter and you're set.

Re: Why wont the belly go ??

I can get veggies with my late meal as im at work and have no way without preparing them before i go. Ive looked for natural peanut butter and flax oil both of which i cannot find in my supermarket here in the uk are there any other sources of health fats

Re: Why wont the belly go ??

to be honest I don't think there is a single human on this planet that can just target a specific area of fat, especially the abdomen area, that's just the way it works, I know where you're coming from, I have never been able to see my abs (although if I stand a certain way in front of a mirror I can just about see 4) but my arms and chest look like that of someone with a six-pack, my desire isn't to have a six pack but to have a low body fat and I suppose with a low body fat % comes a six pack (providing you are doing your crunches, lol).

Re: Why wont the belly go ??

17 lbs in 5 weeks might also leave you with sagging skin which may look like belly. Thats why I'm doing it the slow way... down 55lbs in 2 years and have doubled my lifting.

Still a ways to go, but no saggy skin at my belly, unlike my brother-in-law who lost the same amount in about 1/2 year and looked like a Shar-Pei.

Re: Why wont the belly go ??

There is no saggy skin mate my belly isnt big enough for that today weighed in at 14 st 5lb so more weight loss im gonna start including more carbs in my diet now as i think im burning a bit more muscle than id like

Re: Why wont the belly go ??

I managed to find Organic peanut butter in my local shop i imagine this is the same as Natural. How much of this is healthy per day.

Weight is even further down today im not at 14 st 5 (my starting weight was 16 st 3) so im expecting that the belly should at least start to burn in the next month or so as im getting pretty lean in the face, forearms and legs now

Re: Why wont the belly go ??

Have a look in Holland and Barrett for the Flax oil. Thats where I get mine. Its £10 for 500 ml and youll also get the organic peanut butter in there aswell.

Re: Why wont the belly go ??

What exactly do u do with flax oil cook with it or drink it ? Anyone got any ideas to how much peanut butter is ok to eat

Re: Why wont the belly go ??

I drink 1 tablespoon of Flax in the morning and another at night. And I eat 20 g of peanut butter per day. You could eat more if you like, It depends on what you require for your diet.

Ouch, that flax is damn expensive in Scotland... in Germany, after much online searching I found a provider who has it for 12.73€/liter, plus 4 € shipping.

It comes in a aluminum bottle, to avoid oxidation.

As for the natural peanut butter, I have not had any luck finding that here... maybe I am looking at the wrong places. In the meantime, I just eat the ocassional tbsp of crunchy regular peanut butter when I am feeling for a treat or to complement a particularly lame meal.

Re: Why wont the belly go ??

It is expensive but I havnt looked very hard to find it cheaper. It was the first place I looked. Anyone know anywhere else to get it cheaper in the UK.

Re: Why wont the belly go ??

I get it from either:
Tesco
Sainsbury's
Holland & Barrett
or GNC
There must be a health food shop near ya?

The only place you are going to see it is in a health shop. You need to consult yellow pages to see what 'orgnic shop' is nearest to you. Being in london we have loads. I get a buzz walking into a health shop.

i just got myself some safflower oil (cla) and i bought a large tub natural peanut butter. One thing i would say is that Organic peanut butter is not necessarily the same thing as natty peanut butter. Natural means nothings added like sugar. Look carefully at the labels of organic PB, some say 'no added sugar' This does not mean there is no sugar but means 'extra' sugar has not been added. Also most big brands selling organic PB including the ones in sold in Holland & Barret contain palm oil, salt and sugar.

A sign of natural peanut butter is that you'd see a layer of oil floating atop the jar.

Now if its proving a nightmare finding PB.. best thing is to make yours. Cheaper and more effective. Just buy plain peanuts. Roast them in oven, then blend with safflower or organic coconut oil. Of course the oil should be a 5% ratio to the whole quantity of PB. This gives the PB a smoother texture. If you want it crunchy then dont bland for too long.

I normally do this, but my damn blender broke up. Its a good thing i still have my mince meat grinder working :D

<p>A new drug, <strong>Kybella</strong> (<strong>deoxycholic acid</strong>), that specifically targets chin fat has just been approved by the FDA</p><p> What's more is that, as a bodybuilder, you can use this drug on belly fat covering your abs to quickly dissolve fat cells and to blast fat in other areas.</p><p>Have any of you guys tried it yet? Those machines aren't accurate at all you have to do the pinch one first thing in the morning. I have the same problem tho I have loose skin and jiggly belly fat. I also hit cardio everyday and abbs. The only advice I can give you off of what I read about your nutrition is ditch the Cheerios and eat a good amount of eggs and if you really like cereal eat plain oatmeal. Good luck oh ya I'm at 11% body fat and still have chubs around my belly

I say interval training is a great addition to any training routine for additional fat burning without a negative impact of muscle growth or maintenance. The key is understanding where to implement the routines and how long to do them. That gets much more specific and I recommend working with a coach or trainer to nail down the best program for you. Now a days you can find trainers, coaches, nutritionists and programs that deliver all that is discussed above.
