Why is salty mineral water good to drink?

I know that you are not supposed to drink sea water because it is so salty, that you will end up losing water with that salt sucking it out of your cells. Also, avoiding salt in diet is good to prevent water retention. Here's the interesting part – today I bought some mineral water, supposed to be from some special springs and healthy with minerals, and it is quite salty to taste. Is it ok to drink it, or this is BS?

Well, I am definitely sure that the water in that bottle is not even close to being as salty as ocean water, so it will not cause dehydration. Besides, these waters usually have a healthy bunch of minerals in them, so it should be in fact healthy to drink them ocassionally. However, make sure to keep it in moderation – even good things in excess are not that good any more.

you lose salt when you sweat. so yes you need to get it back

you get it back in spades with eating a normal diet. these mineral drinks are for people sweating buckets or who live in a hot climate

the minerals you need are salt, magnesium, potassium and calcium to get back when you sweat a lot

Thank you for the clarification - now at least I know why it is drinkable unlike sea water ))) Will drink a bit from time to time - not much. Thanks.

Spring water naturally contains minerals such as calcium and magnesium but it actually has a very low sodium content. You are only getting about 2% of your daily sodium in a bottle of spring water.

There is nothing overly healthy about spring water. People drink it because they enjoy the carbonation. It does naturally contain some minerals but it contains such small amounts it's pretty much negligible.
