Why do people hate Creed???

Iron Thrower

New member
I was on a forum the other day and the topic of Creed came up. A lot of people were saying that the lead singer is really arogant and that they don't like the band at all. I heard some stuff about him and Fred Durst getting into it at a show. So what's the deal? Why do people and bands not like Creed? I personally love their music and I don't have a reason to dislike the lead singer. Iron

i really enjoy this topic. i made this post earlier this year. hopefully it can shed some light on the subject.

Allow me to enlighten you on the finer points of why Creed sucks ass. First off, there is a factory somewhere on this planet that cranks out these carbon copy bands that all have a lead singer with the EXACT same voice. This lead singer mold was fashioned from a combination of Eddie Vedder and Lane Staley of Alice in Chains. After these two artists came out, every alternative band in the world decided that they need a lead singer with a deep, nasal voice that sounded just like these two fellows. Creed is one of them(along with STP, Godsmack, although they don't suck). Every single word he sings sounds like he's basically singing the letter "R". "Crrn yr trrk mrr hrrrrrr??" They also claimed at one point to write better songs than Pearl Jam. Now, I'm not much of a Pearl Jam fan, but holy shit give me a break. A 13 year old could have come up with the "intricate" lyrics to any given Creed song. And the lead singer, Scott Stapp, is nothing more than a pretty boy and has to be in every single Creed video with his hair flowing, eyes staring off in the distance like some lost GQ model, striking poses in his little tank top that he doesn't fill out all that well to begin with. Creed is nothing more than a band marketed at females. I will say the heavy guitars are about the only thing I can tolerate about them. Other than that I don't think I've heard any males mouth the words "Yeah...Creed fucking rocks."

The lead singer had the nerve to compare his band to Led Zeppelin. Ok, big guy. Your band is so commercial it's not even funny. Every song they come out with seems like it was designed to end up on some Pringles commercial

Super has some good points about sounding like A in Chains and P Jam, I agree with the bitch. peace

Good night, may you have dreams of yourself and runner in a thong tassled, turquoise ensemble playing hopscotch with plum fairies and feeding each other gummie bears. peace

I don't know where you live bro but these guys grew up here in Orlando and I talked to Scotts mom way back when they were just coming out and still playing free concerts. They originally did this to pay their way through law school. His mom thought it was just a part time gig until they reach the point that they are at now. I've heard about the egotistic thing but every one of these guys records have been huge hits and will continue to be for some time. Pearl Jam was just a by product of grunge which would have never lasted in the first place. They are proabably one of the last real rock bands around

along with n'sync yes

listen to something real like tool

The thing that bugs me... being that I also live in Orlando, is seeing him out at bars (mostly Kate's). He's supposed to be this pro-family, christian, role-model, candy ass, but every time he's out he's got at least two or three drunk bimbo's sitting at his table while he's drinking shots of tequila in between fondling them. I suppose that's why his marriage ended... who knows.

Agreed tool is badass but isn't rock. It's more heavy metal with 3-4 chords in the songs. All the so called rock groups now play the same continuous chords and have no talent whatsoever. I was just trying to say that creed isn't some group that was "made" by someone.

Oddly enough, I was just driving the other day listening to Creed and thinking, "they fucking rock."

I'll be honest, I think they are a great band. And I don't think they are manufactured at all. I think they are one of the last true rock bands with a unique sound and real feeling to their work.

Have you listened to the whole "Weathered" CD? It is very different than their first two CD's. Its got a much harder edge, and the lead singer definitely is beginning to experiment, doing different things with his voice.

Anyway, I'll take Creed anyday over guys like Linkin Park and the 8000 bands that sound just like them.

I agree with you on that one. I am getting kinda tired of the whole rap/metal thing going on. Iron

I fucking hate Creed, that faggy fucking song about having a baby "arms wide open" made me want to drive my truck into a school yard.

You want to rock put in some old school STP, Helmet, Tool, Godsmack, Pennywise (they fucking rock).

who gives a fuck, argueing about who's music or band is better is idiotic anyway. every band has extremely heavy influences from the previous bands. i think creeds alright. i love tool though, but on a side note, i think the lead singer is one of those goofy ass tree hugging liberal morons. but the music rocks.

i forgot to add, did anyone see VH1's bhind the music with creed? bwa-ha-ha-ha.

these guys never knew what it was like to struggle, i mean really struggle. thier first album sold millions. scott "GQ" snapp or whatever his name is, was like , "yea, we were doing acid and extacy all the time and it was rough man"

shit, most bands were living in a garage for years hooked on heroin before and after making it big. and it took em two or three albums.

yea, creed really had it hard.

Never mind how deriviative Creed is ... all artists are stealing from someone else in some way. I just find Creed to be a bit melodramatic in everything it does, from song writing to interviews. They seem to take themselves so seriously ... it's rock and roll for fuck's sake.

i liked their 1st album.. i liked them very very early on.. "my own prison" is one of my favorite songs ever. i don't really follow them too much anymore.

here's something that annoys me though. i hate when someone likes creed and i say, "do you like 'my own prison'?"...and they'll be like what song is that? they don't even know their best songs!

same thing happens with limp bizkit... i met them before they blew up.. their first cd had just come out. "faith" got them on mtv, but "counterfeit" is the song that really started them. i know some people today that like limp bizkit and don't know the song "counterfeit"... that really annoys me.

I think some of you guys might want to check out shit like Kyuss and early Monster Magnet. If you want some kick ass tunes give it a shot. You just might be surprised at what it leads you to. No bullshit, no corperate crap, just music for the sake of music.

Drifter

I dont give a shit what music anyone likes.

I like most music(espec rock) from the 1950's to the present day but I will say this about the crop i the past 10 years. They have absolutely no fucking Charisma whatsoever.

And when they can still be around and playing 20 plus years after the fact with most band members still in the group then they can compare themselves to the following.
The following have been around 20 years plus and have most of the original members still in the group.

-Aerosmith
-Rolling Stones(just entered 40th year together)
-Guess Who
-Crosby Stills Nash Young
-AC/DC
-April Wine
-Kiss
-Metallica
-The Who(doing another "reunion/retirement" tour this summer)
-Ozzy
-Bon Jovi
-Eric Clapton
-Paul McCartney
-U2
-Megadeath
-Motorhead
-Elton John
-Bruce Springsteen
-Rod Stewart
-Def Leppard
Plus a billion others I cant remember at this moment.

Not saying I like/love all of the bands above but they are still going all these years so they deserve alot more respect then any of the other bands today.
Plus the majority of the above have thier own niche and charisma to thier fans and continue even to this day while picking up new fans.

Most of the bigger tours making money and attracting people today are groups and solo artists that have been aorund for many years.

I like most of creed's material, i really dont care about what their lead singer has said/done to anyone....if their music sounds cool thats all i care about.

Thats all that matters, if you like a tune listen to it right?

Creed is a slicked up marketing rip-off of Stone Temple Pilots and Pearl Jam! PERIOD!!!

If a band could suck more ass then it would create a shit-hole in the space-time continuim that only a major fart from GOD himself could repair!

did u guys see their "behind the music" on vh1 about creed? looks like scott stapp is aging badly and quickly and is turning into his father, personality-wise. if the boy's gonna wear a wife beater in their videos, he should work out more!!!!!

the guitar player with the pierced nipple is in better pyhsical shape than "GQ scott" is.

physical attractions and personalities aside, i so like SOME of their music, even if it is .....deravitive. sometimes i wonder what will be played 30 years from now on the "oldies" stations!

Oh fuck. Please. I can barely distinguish the guitar riffs between one Creed song and the next.

I do not like creed because all the songs sound so similar and the lead has a "I am doing good things" complex.

That is all.

Exactly, and like someone posted earlier, they take themselves a little too seriously. After watching the VH1 special, I can see the same self-righteous streak is shared by Scott Stapp and his father.

Wasn't there a band from the 80's called Wodin?

No but there is a company, Wodin Inc that has manufactured quality upset forgings since 1967. Originally a manufacturer of valve stems for the water and oil field equipment industries, we have expanded our forging capabilities to include a wide array of the highest quality near net and finished forging in all grades of forgeable materials

Personally,

I like them better than Pearl Jam. I always thought Pearl Jam was WAY overated. I think that dude just mumbles when he sings I can't understand a dang word he say. Hey eddy spit that gum out of your mouth and sing.

Now stp rocks and has some good music. And Alice In Chains rocks and has some good music but Creed lyrics are better than both of those bands. They have feeling in there songs.

Anyway,

I kinda like Spinal Tap.

LOL!!!!

Spinal Tap is an awesome flick. They actual were so popular that an album was put out after the movie.

.........GOOD!! someone else besides me noticed the family trait of arrogance, self importance and holier-than-thou attitude.

Creed....where do i begin....

So yeah, as of right now, i don't care for them. Their first album had a couple of good songs on it, and i mean 2. I thought torn was a decent song, and My own prison, i will admit, is a very good song. I still like it to this day. As for anything put out other then that, its just all the same. I can hardly tell "when you are with mee, im freeeee" from "can you take me hiigghhherr." They are practically the same song. Experimenting? Experimenting what? I don't even want to hear that. There is nothing wrong with a group that is a simple rock band and gets successful. People are naturally going to want to dislike them. Creed is by no means original. They have modelled themselves after bands that have been mentioned already, and really don't stray far from that. As far as their recent songs, they are really bad songs. They are so cheesy and lame i basically want to swerve my car into the other lane on the interstate. They are incredibly over dramatized live. This guy acts like he is a mountain lion or something while he is singing. What the hell does he have to look like that for? Its hilarious. Basically my main view on creed is, they don't really offer much, their songs are pretty boring, incredibly lame, and just basically a band that is just overall pretty lame. There are zillions of better groups out there. Don't be a sheep.

The majority of Creed's songs the guitars are tuned down to D. You know why... so you can play bared chords all over the neck and it sounds cool. On the new album Tremonti discovered open tuning, now he can fret any string anywhere on the neck and strum a chord. So if that isn't lazy I don't know what is.

I know nothing about music from a technical standpoint- that's interesting stuff to know. Good post.
