Who here works out with a partner?

i have a parnter some ways its good some ways its bad its nice to have some there to spot you .but most of the time my partner doesn't show up ,or he bullshits to much and don't help put the weights away ,or when i need a spot he's some where laying down lazy bastered!!!!!!!!! sometimes i wish i just worked by myself

explain how a partner helps you lift more? Other than cheering you on how can a partner help?

you have safety bars when you squat, you ask for a spot when you bench heavy and forced reps are bullshit crap.

Thats my opinion. The strongest guys I know work out by themselves. Sure they have friends in the gym but they dont have a training partner.

If you need your buddy to help you lift to failure or get into the gym then It would help. I couldnt imagine someone having to coax me into the gym or "making" me go to failure.

not a flame, just a question and opinion.

i tell you what, i work out all by myself, but if i do need a partner there for a spot, my wife is the only person i want to have my back. for one, i'm anti-social-bi-polar. for two, i don't like doing anyone elses work out, or even compromising on a excercise to do. last, but not least, when i'm all by myself and i get under some heavy shit, i know theres no half-steppin' , either i get the weight up and off me or i'm one dead mutha' fucka'. i see these other guys with partners and they don't use half the intensity i use. and i don't beleive that you can't grow or get any serious gains by working out by yourself. i beleive it depends on the individual. if you want it bad enough and you are dedicated, theres nothing that will stand in your way. plus when you do get a partner, you end up depending on that person, when he does'nt show up, it will fuck up your work out. i like depending on myself. if i don't get in there and bust my ass, i got no-one to blame but myself. tell you the truth, i make better gains without someone there jacking wreck and acting as if they know it all. i'm exactly like the few other guys on this thread, i do not want anyone thinking were friends and everytime they see me they want to talk. i'm there for one reason, work-out. respect that and leave me alone because i sure in the hell will not bother you..............
Peace,
Niko

I was just wondering because I find I lack motivation to get my ass in the gym a lot of the time. Problem is I can't find anyone motivated enough to go with me. Guess I will just have to tough it out and find other ways to stay motivated. Anyone else have this problem?

i have the same problem,i almost get a friend to come but they back out last minute,i hate asking people for spots but a few guys have offered since ive been on which is good, but i feel i would be so much futher with a good partner

biggest con...

of not having a partner/spotter is not being able to confidently go to the 1-3 rep range.
I typically stick with a weight I know I should get 6-8...but i don't pick a number and lift to it...I pick a weight and number range as a target...still going to failure each set. Even without a partner I am going damn close to temporary failure.

I don't need someone to talk me into the gym or motivate me...that's MY job and NOONE elses!!!

I go to the gym by myself, used to have a partner. I get a good workout usually but obviously can't train to failure on benches. Sometimes a spotter standing over you can be a distraction, losing your concentration if your not completely focused. I'll grab a trainer or someone if I go for a max.

Obviously its better in some ways to train with a partner. Those of you who have someone dedicated enough consider yourselves lucky. I guess it also depends on personality types. I myself am somewhat introverted and prefer doing a lot of things solo. But there are times when having a partner would be nice you know someone to give you that competitive edge once in awhile. Its a damn good thing they make smith machines and racks. Or else some of us would be shit up a creek for those days when you lift very heavy.
