Who are you listening to ?

After Siff passed they decided to keep the site up and running.

I honestly believe anybody interested in functional strength could get alot out of that site.

On Fortified Iron, I believe I posted a eulogy of sorts in honor of Mel. I don't know Matt, but I do know OF him. I frequent over there often.....but I just read. I can't post too many place...LOL

I'm going to go over to goheavy today and check out Pendlay's stuff. A search should bring up most of his posts.

You know, there is so much to learn. A couple friends of mine train at Nazareth and have invited me out to train for a couple of days. If I didn't work so much I would, I just have to find a time to go. It is really a plus to have people to talk to about this as I didn't have anything but useless bodybuilding knowledge prior to a year or two ago. I guess that is why I try and read as much as I can and aquire the advise of people that I think know what they are talking about...(such as yourself).

Mc,are you going to the Arnold this year? If you go you have a couple of beers bought by yours truely.

it's like anything else in my life, i take in as much information as i can, i process some, i apply some, i trash some. it's all relative.

This is a great thread!

I remember not long ago when it was generally accepted here that the guy with the best body, or the strongest guy knew "best", no exceptions. Arguements would always end with, "post a pic," implying that whomever was in the best shape at the time would win the argument. The substance, relevance, or accuracy of their posts made no difference. It's all how you looked that mattered.

I remember once suggesting that how you look, how strong you are, or what kind of shape your in often has little to do with your knowledge as a trainer, or in your ability to impart that knowledge to others. I pretty much got flamed off the thread. This is really good to see. :)

Hence the terms "Muscle Head" and "Meat Head". There are a lot of really smart and really stupid people involved in weight training for one reason or another. The really stupid people think they know everything, can't apply any logic to what they believe that they know, and no matter what is presented to them believe that they are correct for no reason that they can formulate other than it is what they believe. The smart people ask for an explanation if there is something that goes against a current belief and are curious enough to investigate further. They question the generic advice perscribed. This is how people become knowledgable and this is what separates a good coach from a good athlete - the athlete may have far more talent and potential but it is the coach who can facilitate his progression and allow him to reach his ultimate potential. All of us start in ignorance.

Curgeo:
I won't be at the Arnold, lots on my plate over the next few months (in reality I need a good kick in the head for even posting or reading these boards). I do appreciate the offer for beers though. Maybe another time once things settle down more. Life is just up in the air right now with regards to work, moving, and travel.

MC....Thank you for the Pendlay reference. I have been reading his posts from last year and I am really really impressed.

Okay...a beer another time.
Cheers!

Ive been pretty lucky to have good training partners (Tom Prince) or great trainers (Charles Glass). So I guess for me- guys w/compeition background have had the best advice.

I dont listen to any one person, i try and take in information from all kinds of people, all shapes and sizes, and through trial and error find whats best for me. The huge freaks dont always know everything, and that skinny dude on the treadmill just might no something, you never know.

I agree...

i listen to everyone... then laugh cuz most are wrong..

this one guy told me if i wanna get bigger, eat a cookie every night before i go to bed for a month.

he said its in 'the book of arnold' i think he meant his encyclopedia. which it isnt.

then i told him, now bout a nice steak and potato.. hes like no, a cookie..
