When is the best time to do cardio when cutting???

Hi
I am about to start cutting and i have been asking around and reading articles here and there on when is the best time to do your cardio WITHOUT losing muscles, and i have been getting so many different responses like, before breakfast on an empty stomach,2 hour after workout, not on workout days,etc... so i pretty much more confused then before. Can anybody help me? thanks

am cardio is ideal. as long as you have a solid diet and lifting scheme you wont lose too much muscle. i think its damn near impossible to cut without losing some muscle mass.

I'd say do it while you're awake.

seriously, timing is such a small factor it's not worth stressing about.. if you like to do it at night, go ahead. If you like the boost AM cardio gives you (not me, lol) then do that. Just do it :p Just watch for hard sessions before a leg work

I do cardio for 20 30 minutes right after I weight train, I have heard that this is when glycogen is not being used for energy and body goes to burning fat, someone correct me if I am wrong. I also don't eat carbs right post workout, only protein, to keep the burn going.

After weights works fairly well - for the reason you listed as it pertains to glycogen. However - this limits taking in protein/carbs after the weight session, which I think is a mistake.

BEST time - first thing am HIIT style - all things considered.

well, i do the cardio and then within 5-10 minutes take in 50 grams protein powder. Exactly one hour later I will have a solid food meal with carbs like 10 egg whites, one yolk and a half green apple

I'm not arguing with you.

I'm simply stating that cardio post weights, for you, severely delays getting carbs back into your system. You are going the length of your workout plus the cardo plus another hour. Adding fat to the equation further slows down the process.

It's a matter of preference....and balancing optimal fat loss with preservation of lbm.

No argument here either, so what you are saying is that I should be consuming some carbs right post workout. I just remembered what I failed to add is that during the workout with weights I will usually drink a gatorade or cytomax drink. what of that?

That maximizes the fight against potential lbm loss.

But is also makes the possibility of fat loss fairly non-existent.

The body cannot utilize body fat as fuel when insulin levels are elevated.

Ok. so carb deplete during workout, drink water only?

IMO - I would continue with the workouts and sipping on a carb/protein mix as you are, and consider doing cardio on its own.

You cannot maximize the two extremes in ONE session.

The body uses fat as fuel when insulin levels are NOT elevated.

insulin inhibits gluconeogenesis (good :o) and lipolysis (bad :()

curse the human body for being such a finely tuned fat storage device

Good point.

And, FWIW, Lyle Mcdonald argues that the fuel utilized during cardio is largely irrelevant in the big scheme of things re: fat loss. Calories in vs. Calories out.

yep.....body acnNOT use fat when insulin levels are high

I left the 'T off
