I think my body is very individual when it comes to this exercise, as dumbell presses bug my shoulder more than benching with elbows in, and by in I mean 45 degrees away from the bar, kinda midway between torso and bar. I've gotten an thick chest out of benching this way as my heavy exercise. I also find tucking my shoulder blades under my back as far as they will go, really helps to isolate the pecs more during the exercise.
