When do you take your protein powder?

I eat 6 meals per day, all protein based meals of course.

* When do you take your protein shakes, and how often during the day?

*Do you take it with meals or between meals?

*If you take it with meals, which meals do you take it with?

*If you take it with meals, what foods do you eat along with it?

This will be a big help for me bros because I just take it when ever I want.

Protein Powder

What type of protein powder do you take? I am spending a small fortune on freakin' EAS crap. Between all of that and my "jiuce", I am could feed a small country and I am rapidly running out of funds!
Thanks bros.

Yeah thats exactly when I take mine, breakfast with some cereal and eggs, and post workout for sure with weight gainer.

If Im too full to have my protein in the mourning I will have it for lunch with food. Is this ok guys?

You talking pure protein powder, mrp, or post-workout recovery shakes? As far as pure protein powder is concerned, I use it as it is meant to be used - as a supplement.

If I eat a meal that is totally lacking in protein, I use the powder.

If I eat a meal that is a little lacking in protein, I use a bit of powder.

If I eat a meal that has a good protein content but may be slowly digested, I use a little bit of powder.

If I eat a meal with a fairly large amount of protein, I don't touch the powder.

If I'm trying to supplementaly increase my daily protein intake (which I usually am), I may drink the powder between meals.

Note that "protein powder" and weight gainer/recovery shakes are not the same thing. I do not use protein powder after a workout - my recovery shake is packed with enough protein already.

Whenever I have an appetite between meals, and of course a big shake post workout. Sometimes I try to drink one before bed if I dont eat then.

I take one about an hour before my workout because your body uses a lot of it's protein while working out, (remember, protein helps build muscle, so you want some in your body while you are working out), and I take one about an hour after my workout to replace what my body used while working out.

I take them like this:

1 - Breakfast (If I am a lazy ass in the morning, then I'll have my first shake... it''s 60 protein 100 carbs, and a teaspoon of flax...)

2 - Shake (If I wasn't lasy... ortherwise breakfast now)

3 - Lunch

Workout

4 - Post workout shake

5 - Dinner

6 - Before bed shake... just protein...

Daz it...

1 Breakfast (food)
2 Protein shake
3 Lunch (food)
4 Protein shake
5 Snack (food)
6 Post-workout protein/carb shake
7 Dinner (food)
8 Snack (food)

Silent Method I know the difference between the supps. Thanks for the help though, I take it exactly like you, I was just wondering how and when everyone else did it. Thanks everyone.

i won't pretend to be as knowledgable as anybody on this board, but my reasearch has shown that on a daily basis a person should take in up to 2g of protein per pound of lean body mass. And that it is best have a constant supply of protein flowing through your system as systhesis occurs at various intervals. Also, it seems that one should understand how their gear works in intervals so that supplement intakes can be taken concurrently. If this is true, it would seem logical that one would more concerned about carb intake pre-workout and protein / calorie intake post / workout. Am I completely off base with any of this... if so someone please let me know cause i need to know :)

The only time I take any supplements is post workout. I'm a whole food type of guy the rest of the day.

I take it when i wake up
Before bed.
DBL dose after workout.
And in meals where protien in low or absent.
And sometimes as meal sustitute.

For the most part your correct. The amount of protein you need to take in is debatable.

We're talking about athletes training to gain muscle, but a further distinction must be made between those using drugs and those not currently using drugs. Two grams of protein per pound is advisable for those on gear, as AAS greatly increase the potential fo nitrogen retention and protein sysnthesis. I know many on the board will disagree with me, but for most people 2g/lb is overkill if training naturally.

Immediately following workout, with glutamine and creatine mixed in.I use Optimum Whey.I also tend to make my protein pancakes 1-2 a day with any where from 2-4 scoops of powder

25g of my protein comes at every meal from powder, I'm at 370 per day total.
