whats best amount of reps per set for ultimate hypertrophy

Seriousley, you have to experiment. I tried that heavy training, low rep good form type of crap, i even subscribed to the "you must train heavy" mentality. Well after years of very slow progress i was very strong but looked nithing like a BB. Switched to the 10-20 rep range and my muscles blew up and i never had a problem growing again.
 
I think it depends on the muscle group and the combination of slow twitch and fast twitch muscle fibers.. bla bla bla.. but I think a general rule goes something like this:

1-5 reps (pure strength gains)
6-8 compromise between strength and mass
8-12 maximum mass
12 + muscular endurance
