I would like to add these to my diet to eat eggs in or chicken, etc.
What is a good one to chose since i'm trying to cut?
I have had the la tortilla factory and didn't like them and the smell....ugh!

I use to make sandwiches with the following wraps:

Below are some food stats for them from my fitday custom food list (some of the info is missing - I just add the carbs, protein, fat and fiber):

Whole Wheat Tortillas from Whole Foods (I used this on the days I lifted)
Calories 220
Total Fat 4g
Total Carbohydrate 46g
Dietary Fiber 8g
Protein 8g

Or the Thomas (the English Muffin folks) Sahara Wraps
Calories: 170
Total Fat 4.5g
Total Carbohydrate 27g
Protein 5g

not to highjack youre thread but that is a butiful dog in youre avi.

Hey :) I like the whole wheat tortillas by 'Guererro'. There aren't too thick like other that I have tried.

I LOVE them. They make the BEST low carb pizzas. Put some tomato sauce on them, add a little cheese ..... YUM YUM YUM. Plus, they have a lot of fiber. Great "cheat" that isn't really a cheat!

ooh that sounds great daisygirl. WHere can u get them?

BTW your baby is just super adorable!!! :qt: What a peach!

Jens I actually have some low carb mission ones in the frig that i like, but they are white looking. I will have to check that out. I assume if they are whole wheat they are brownish, right??

thanks everyone :)

The ones I bought say Low Carb Whole Wheat on the package...they were a little brown but not brown-brown.....

And DG - YES!! I've made that "pizza" before using the flat bread with great results!! BBQ chicken (1 tblsp BBQ sauce, shredded chicken, cheese, red onion) is another awesome alternative..... :p

Jens,
mine say carb balance and they're by mission.

cal 110
fat 2.5
sodium 330
total carb 18
fiber 11
protein 5
sugars 0

* Are these ok or not?? They don't say whole wheat though!!*
If not please explain why, cuz I look at that and think.."these look good".

What do the ingredients say? Made w white flour or whole wheat flour?

IMO, all things in moderation. Nothing wrong with white low carb tortillas once in awhile, once a day or so. If you are not trying to compete, then no harm ... at least in my opinion. Esp if in general your diet is high in veggies, good carbs and good fats.

Oh, and I have gotten the Carb Down flatbread at Wal Mart, and at my grocery store. It is usually in it's own little stand, by the deli.

It's enriched bleached wheat flour. :worried: Hence, the white color.
I'll look for something more natural i think. Good for the kids though, with the protein and fiber.

Any hydrogenated oils, fats, etc??

They don't sound too bad - better than most of the crap you can buy....

water, modified food starch, enriched bleached wheat flour, wheat gluten, powder cellulose, veg. shortening(soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil), wheat protein isolate, and contains 2%or less of; salt, leavening, soidium aluminum sulfate, corn starch, monoclalcium phosphate, calcium phosphate, cellulose gum, calcium propionate and sorbic acid, distilled monoglycerides, wheat starch, amylase, tricalcium phosphate, natural flavor, sunflower oil, sucralose, canola oil, triglycerides, dough conditioners.

whew! that's a load of ingredients.

Yeah a long list.....but not overly bad, really..... The positives are the: NO sugar, 5g of protein & the fiber count (a very good amount!).....

I have used Mission before, but it seems that ALL the LC tortillas I've tried have that funky taste to them. I decided to go for a whole grain tortilla that isn't LC, but I only eat them occasionally.

They're called Tam-X-ico's 100% Whole Wheat Tortillas. The first several ingredients are:

Stone ground 100% whole wheat
100% whole Grains, which include: (cracked wheat, barley, corn millet, oats, flax, rye, sesame, triticale, brown rice, soya)

There are some preservatives in them - obviously, but there is only 1 gram of sugar. You can SEE whole flax seeds and other grains in this thing.

No funky taste either.

Per Tortilla:

Cal: 106
Fat: 2.5g (sat 0, trans 0, poly 1, mono 1)
Cholesterol: 0g
Sodium: 230mg
Total Carb: 18g
Fiber: 3g
Sugars: 1g
Protein: 2g

went to the grocery and didn't see any flatout stuff. checked by the deli and the bread section. Looked over where i got the mission tortillas in the coolers and no wheat ones. The ones i mentioned are really good and have no funny taste. my kids even ate them and said nothing.
Today i got something by the deli to make some pizzas. It is PITA Gourmet flat bread in whole wheat.
MUUUch shorter ingred. list (always good :) )

cal 130
fat 3
sat.fat 0.5
trans fat 0
chol 0
sodium 180
total carb 21
fiber 2
sugar 0
protein 4

Whole wheat flour, filtered water, yeast, canola oil, salt, calcium propionate.

whaddya think, which is better? Remember i'm trying to cut ;)

Looks good also - but I just like all that fiber in the other ones, which make the net carbs lower......I don't see any reason, really (unless you're cutting to compete) why you couldn't incorporate either one into your meal plan.....

Yep, that sounds just peachy! A short ingredient list IS good! lol

what the gimpy girl here said. ;) (I can say that bec I am gimpy too)

I didn't realized that where you live there are a lot of different types of tortillas.

Here in Mexico, I just classify them in two... the ones made out of corn and the ones made out of flour (the type varies, but still flour).

I prefer to avoid flour made tortillas because of refined flours. Corn on the other hand, provide low source of carbs and contain a lot of fiber too.

In China, we mix corn flour and soy bean flour (roughwrought) together with some saleratus and some water, and then steam it into tortillas.
