What you dont know about microwaves

I had this on someone elses thread but i thought id start my own. I dont think half the people that use microwaves would if they knew the facts.
Bro i would never use a microwave! check it out i read an article a while back, about how bad they were. the article was about a test they did. They took a bunch of plant seeds(same pot, same dirt, same exposure to sunlite). the only variable was microwaved water. Half the plants were watered with tap water, and the other half with microwaved water. Both were set at room temp before use. the ones that were fed tap water grew fine and ones that were fed microwaved water didnt grow at all. Anyhow it was said that microwaves kill 98% of nutrients in food. i couldnt find the original article, but i found a related one. you bros should check it out

Hehe if this were true half the population would be skiny midgets.

that site doesn't look reputable. I would like to see many studies and journals quoted by a reputable entity @ the very least to even take it somewhat seriously.

What is true about the study that has been done in a few other studies that were published is degradation of food value in preparation. I.E. Microwaving vs. boiling vs. steaming: vegetables result in the steaming retaining about 95% of its food value. Boiling around 65% and microwaving around 5%. I've seen these numbers flux a few pionts but they pretty much remain at those amounts.

-----

As far as microwaving meats, I haven't read any studies done similar to this but, they just don't taste the same or have the same texture or quality, in looks and in feel, as grilliing or even baking (in my experience)

you cannot microwave meat to cook it i mean if its frozen but already been cooked then you can microwave it to heat it up but to put a piece of raw meat in the microwave would be a big mistake trust me i did it with a steak once it came out bright red.

This is a good one . start about 19 paragraphs down http://chetday.com/microwave.html

Theres tons of info and tests on this topic. All stating that microwaves kill and alter nutrients making them useless to the body. ;)

:p

Good info though, lol.

lol.....Na its just some info i picked up awhile ago. The thing is i know that people on the boards are concerned with what they put in there body. Im just trying to shed light on the fact that it also matters on how you prepare what you put in your body. Y when people use a microwave do you think people reffer to it as "NUKING" your food. Bro the facts r there. And this time im not fishing for K....lol

Do any of you actually know how a microwave works? It uses the polarity change of an EM-wave to excite the water molecule (which is a dipole) to a higher energy state. This theory is so crackpot it had to be created by Reynolds Wrap.

Yup looks like you took the time do some some research, instead of posting an opinion. Theres about 6-7 links alone on this thread, with info posted by SCIENTISTS who actually ran tests to collect info on the subject. those 6-7 links are a very small fraction of informational sites out there. But to you credit the guy with tinfoil on his head almost made me change my mind. ;)

I actually have designed and have been a production engineer for microwave magnetrons and know these "Studies" to be bunk.

alright im just sharing what i came across, and thought was interesting. From what i read i believe that microwaves kill 90-98% of nutrients in food. Check those sites ^^^^ they seem pretty informative.

The food in the Russian study that article refers to imparted 100 kilowatts per cubic centimeter per second to the food.

A microwave oven magnetron only has an output power of 500-1000W continuous wave. So, what the study did was heat your brocolli with energy equivalent to 100-200 microwave ovens. If there were anything edible left, it would surprise me.

That is some intense shit! I am considering not using it anymore LOL!

lol......what about the other six though. hey im not doubting what you know about micros im just saying how much do you know about the end result of the food that comes out of them

You can now be my personal chef & drill sargent LOL :)

^^ I concur my friend, until I can have my chef prep my food from fresh daily, I will have to settle for the micro ... I try to grill as often & eat raw veggies & steam them, but obviously I'm getting some type of nutrients from this micro'd food ... results to prove it :)

Then again I do live to nuke food ... :D
