What weighs more, size or strength?

I dont know too much about the actual physiology of muscles so I need some help.

I want to put on some bodyweight. Does a mass program add more weight than a strength, or vice verse, or what? Just because a muscle is big and hypertrophied, does that mean it weighs more?

My first program was a massing program, I made some good gains in bodyweight, but that could have been because those were beginner gains. My second program has been the 5x5, I've lost some size, gained a ton of strength in my core lifts, and gained virtually no weight.

Now I am debating going for more strength, or using my newfound strength increase in a more traditional mass building program. I'd like to increase my bodyweight however, and I figure January would be a good time.

You can't lose size, gain lots fo strength and have no change in bodyweight. You probbaly lost fat and gained some msucle at the same time :)

Well I guess you're right.

Arm size is down, leg size (calves and thighs) is up. Chest is the same, haven't measured around my shoulders. Bodyfat is down a touch, bodyweight is virtually the same.

J., I just got a really detailed book about Periodization by Dr. Tudor Bompa. He's an old dude from Romania who came up with the idea of periodization back in '63.
