What should I add to my oatmeal?

Getting sick and tired of eating plain oatmeal. I need some "oomph" added to it to actually make it worth eating. What should I add. I know some of you are going to say to add fruits. Sounds great! But I really don't want to add "extra" carbs to my oatmeal.

So what should I add to enhance it's flavor? Someone suggested to me to just add a few blueberries. That the few blueberries I add really won't jack up much of the carbs. And someone highly suggested I add a bit of honey. But isn't Honey a "high glycemic" carb?

Any suggestions?

i have added some strwberry protien powder and milk oir water
berries are a nother good suggestion but will bring up the carb count
cinnimon is also good
honey
splenda

Honey is high glycemic though. Right?

id say dont add any fruit or honey if thats what your doing right now cutting down the carbs the oatmeal should be plenty. the cinimon and almonds sounded like a good idea imo

i usally put alittle bit of brown sugar in it.

i would stay away from honey if your cutting
brown sugar is awesome but hi gi
i like the splenda brown sugar you almost cant tell the difference
cinimon is a good no carb additive to spruce up plain oatmeal as long as you like cinnimon
you could also use all natty maple syrup or a low sugar version

I'm thinking about toasted almonds with cranberries and oatmeal right now(tummy growl)Yummmm!

WELLBILT- VERMONT MAPLE SYRUP? Damn, that was a cruel suggestion! :)

hehe
actually it kinda tastes like gear oil
na its rewally not bad its still sweet even without the extra sugar that most companies add

I never get tired of oatmeal so far. Half a cup of dry Quick Oats, 1 cup of vanilla soy milk (light). Microwave for 2 minutes, then add cinnamon powder and splenda. If you want extra protein, add one to two scoops of protein powder (vanilla) after microwave. This makes a great breakfast. Hope it helps. Yeah, plain oatmeal is not fun!

fat free sugar free instant pudding. Use vanilla to make a cream flavor oatmeal. then and any fruit like bananas and you got bananas&cream. ff sf butterscotch and some nuts to make a butter nut flavor. There are hundreds of ideas just using this concept alone.

SF pudding is a really good idea, I am going to try this.

I stock up on extracts and add a few drops to oatmeal & protein shakes. Vanilla, Almond, Chocolate, Coconut, Raspberry, Maple, Banana, etc.

I mix Honey, cinnamon, crushed walnuts, banana. Tastes like banana nut bread

Or some dried fruit mix (raisins, cherries, blueberries), walnuts, honey

Thanks.

Tablespoon of peanut butter

I thought it sounded disgusting the first time it was suggested to me, but I was surprised to find it actually tastes pretty good

Not necessarily an oatmeal idea per se, but every morning I mix at least a half cup of Quaker oats with a half cup of natural (unsweetened) applesauce. I am probably one of the few, but I think it tastes delicious, in a "mush"y kind of way.

x1. That's some good stuff.

This has probably been posted but I wasn't going to read 4 pages of oatmeal recipes if I absolutely loved the one I use currently.

1cup old fashioned oatmeal
handful of Craisins (they are dried cranberries you can get from Sam's club for $10, made by Oceanspray)
1 scoop of BigBlast vanilla protein
Skim milk just enough to cover oatmeal
2:30 in the microwave
1 tblspoon of Agave Nectar light (Agave nectar is low on glycemic index)

i never heard of peanut butter till i got in this thread last week and im sprung!! i been eating it every morning with vinela whey and i have to really check myself when im done jus so i dont lick the bowel lol

the pb didnt seam that good to me but i did get sick as hell of pb after a couple weaks of polumbo. or i could just be weird.

Ill usually put some stevia in my oatmeal, with some cinnomon, and some frozen blueberrys. Or a bannana. When im bulking ill even dump some protien and peanut butter and melt it in when i heat up the outmeal. muscle milks cake batter protien tastes awsome with outmeal. mmmm

not sure if anyone mentioned this yet (sorry didnt read all the posts) but if you are just looking to sweeten it up, adding a little bit of agave nectar could be what you are looking for. it is very low glycemic compared to brown sugar and honey, and is actually quite a bit sweeter, so it will go a long way. you should look into it

I add a scoop of my whey isolate and sometimes a little fruit.

thats my usual first meal of the day..mixed with whey protein powder..I put the oats in a coffee grinder and powder them then mix with water or milk

Agave nectar is one of the biggest new scams in the health world. It's basically high fructose corn syrup that is made from starchy agave roots instead of corn. "Amber" agave nectar is just syrup that burnt a little while it was being cooked down.

i found that sugar free/fat free white chocolate jello powder and almond milk instead of water wit my oats and a few packets of splenda tastes like cake batter. its fricken bangin

what about a few bits of bacon? I'm sure you could chop up a half a piece of bacon and have an adequate sprinkling of flavor. I know its full of nitrates, but compared to the sugars in fruit, you're just trading one problem for another. I love bacon.

I make an oatmeal/eggwhite/protein powder pancake in the morning. A little sugar free syrup and it goes down easy.

Just what I was going to say,
1/2 cup oats, grind them or not for a chewier pancake
5-6 egg whites
pinch of baking powder
sometimes 1/2 scoop of protein powder, sometimes not
if needed about 1/4 cup of almond milk

spray the pan and cook it up...good to eat in the car on the way to work too.

bacon bits....not the fake shaker bacon bits, but real bacon cut into tiny pieces...its got such a yummy crunch and flavor. maybe that will give your oatmeal a little sprinkle of taste..
