What % of street fights go to the ground?

I'm always hearing people on here and other places that quote X number of percentage of fights go to the ground. Where does everyone get their numbers? I hear 95%, 99%, or all fights go to the ground. Who out there has real credibility to give out % numbers?
To me, its all relative to the person. If you are a pretty good groundfighter, you may take all your fights to the ground, thus, giving you a 100%. If you are a seasoned western boxer who has gotten maybe 3 fights in his life on the street and you knocked out every attacker on your feet, then 0% of your fights have gone to the ground so far.
Myself, in the fights I've been in on the street, I'd say about 40% have gone to the ground. Of other fights that I've been close enough to witness, I would say that the # would be even less. For many of you that have actual street experience, your numbers may differ. I'm not talking ring or competition fights, since these are controlled fights that have rules that will have a direct impact on #s.
I feel that many factors come into play in determining whether a street fight will go to the ground or not. Everything from the size of the fighting area, to the type of surface (dirt, ice, snow, floor tile, etc...), to the number of people someone has as "back-up", to a fighter's experience and type of fighting discipline are just some of the factors that will determine, I think, whether a fight will go to the ground or not.
So is there a magic % number that will automatically tell you what you can expect, if you get into a physical altercation on the street?

Lets hear your opinion of what percentage of street fights go to the ground, and how you came to that number.

i dont know about anyone elses percentages but im a wrestler and all my fights have gone to the ground cause i normally grab the legs with one arm and punch on the way down with the other arm and then drive my forearm straight into the nose and then follow up with good body shots to knock the air out of them ;)

and another good one on the ground is to double arm bar them and lock there legs so that they have no limbs to use and use your free arm to give multiple ear and jaw shots

people who want to support grappling usualy site some insane % that only serves tomake them sound like they are trying to sell something (which they are)
the 65-85 stat sounds much more accurate then the usual 99 or 100 or 105 % that people usually insist to me
but generally between two untrained people, it stays on the feet as a striking battle and someone only goes to the ground when they are knocked there by a punch

who knows, it's not like there's a "report your streetfight hotline" where they ask you this stuff. Any number is just an estimate. The point is, know the ground stuff but don't depend on it

The quoted percentages don't claim x% are taken to the ground, they claim x% go to the ground. If you punch someone in the face and he falls to the ground then the fight has theoretically gone to the ground. A strike in that sense becomes a takedown although not an intentional takedown.

As Lee explained, LAPD statistics and the Gracie family believe between 65 and 85 percent of all disputes eventually end up on the ground

thyre the COPS ! they pull a GUN on you and say "GET DOWN ON YOUR FACE !!!" MOST Street encounters where one person does that DOES end up on the Ground , yes .

Kim explained unlike some of the other martial art forms available at the studio, Tai Chi is slow motion fighting which helps focus and relax the mind and body.

Yes , My Taiji helps Relax your Mind and Body by Swiftly introducing you to the "Prone Meditation" .

Idiots . They claim to TEACH Taiji , bu they call it "Slow Motion Fighting" I NEVER Fought n Slow Motion in my entire life . They watch too much Matrix , I think .

Funny.
In the streetfights that I've been in, as soon as I delivered some good punches, most opponents(about 3 out of 4) grab me. If they outweigh me or have takedown skill, the fight goes to the ground, where I don't do as well, so I try to get things back to standup. If they can't take me down, I continue to rain blows until they fall down or quit.
If a fighter has better hands than me, my instinct is to try to take him down, hoping his ground skills are less than mine. No subs, just GnP.

exactly my point, but people always are throwing out numbers "95%" "99%"

where do people get these #s?
