Milk is not a liquid. It is a solid. It is high in sugars no matter the fat content. For now: skip it.

Ok, pardon my ignorance, but how does Milk cause bloat? I never heard of this. Also, what if youre Lactose intolerant? If you are, you can't digest Lactose, so does it cause an insulin spike if youre not digesting it still? Anyone know?

Skim milk for this cat. Milk has never bloated me or cause any problems for this cat while cutting. I only have one cup per day with breakfast though.

It is an excellent source of calcium, protein, and Vitamin D.

:(

I have 0.3ltr every morning with my oats man!!! (it's 0.3%)... I can't imagine oats with water

I can't se how skim milk in moderation would be bad for you if you are cutting. I mean, if u need some for your oats, then put it in there. Just don't go drinking 8 glasses a day.

I think 2% is the way to go. A bit of fats to help with test levels.(of course you still have to have the sense to fit it into your diet macros/overall calorie needs).

skim/nofat with protien shakes. maybe another glass randomly during the day. I will never give up on milk..... but thats prob why I am this fat :)

Cutting is about losing weight, specifically bodyfat. You lose bodyfat by eating enough calories to maintain muscle mass, continuing with heavy lifting while slashing frequency and volume, and fulfilling this formula: Calories in < Calories out

Taa-daa! Milk or no milk doesn't fucking make any difference. Cut milk out a week from a contest if you're a queer (i.e., bodybuilder), otherwise, it won't make any fucking difference in fat loss.

Idiots.

Try HOOD No Carb milk. It's awesome! That's the ONLY milk I will drink!

As to soy milk I think a man should avoid soy.

That's what im drinking now, it's low in carbs fat and calories. The chocolate one is def better tasting. I only drink this for my shakes, which is 1x or 2x a day :p

Correction, what im drinking now for my shakes: Sugar free chocolate fudge packet mixed with Hood Low Carb Milk, with Chocolate Low carb Protein Powder (25g per scoop).

Yummy.... taste like a smoothie.

No Milk while cutting. Never hear of Hood Low Carb Milk, not sure if it's available here in Canada. How's the sugar content of Hood??

Sounds good. I might copy that recipe. I mix up hood milk, blueberries and whey and when I get craving for something sweet I just put back on blender for 15 seconds and drink about 8 to 10 ounces to take away the craving

I it's only 2 grams. it's super low threw my last container away and don't have one in front of me to read.

Milk (actually the casein) compounds contains glue(used to stick labels on all those soda and beer bottles) that your body has a difficult time processing/extracting (you may not notice) that makes you retain more water/fluids/etc.

Any Gastro will tell you all humans are lactose intolerant. Milk is for babies. Ever see a grown animal drinking milk from their mother once they are weened? Nope, only the silly human animal is dumb enough to consume dairy.
No human digestive system has the enzymes to break up lactose. Some just feel the effects more than others.

Stay away from milk!

I concur on the hood being good. There's another brand I drink that I can't recall the name. Its a soy brand and has like 3 carbs per serving for the chocolate :p I usually don't buy it as I drink the whole carton in one sitting whenever I do buy them ;)

LoL@this thread. Busy at work, and really don't have time to get into this one. Milk caused bloating yes, and it will hide cuts, but the carbs in it are low GI (lower than brown rice btw) and high calcium intake has been documented to speed up fat loss. The saturated fat is an issue, but you can always drink skim. Overall it is an awesome food for dieting, however he bloating may be an issue.

the Hood stuff was called Carb Countdown when it 1st came out awhile back but they have since changed the name to Calorie Countdown for some reason(?). I really like this stuff since I try to stay with "clean" carbs as much as possible even when bulking, so the drastically lower sugar levels in this stuff is definitely a plus but you still get the other benefits of milk. Of course this is aside from the immediate post-workout window in which case I usually go with regular lo-fat chocolate to help replenish glyco stores.

unfortunately this stuff is a little hard to find in my area, Wal-Mart is suppopsedly a big carrier of it but I don't think I've ever seen it there.
here's some info I found on the stuff:

well, if you're allotting yourself a certain number of calories/grams from carbs in a day...you can devote some of those to milk. if the numbers are in check, overall calories in particular, i don't think it would fuck your shit up. i didn't know the lactose in milk was lower GI than brown rice. but hey, i'm actually a monkey and pretty confused as to how i managed to type this post out.

banana, wtf?

I ussually dont drink milk at all but when I was making my protien pudding it just didnt act right with water (more of a protien soup lol) so I went out and got some of the hood calorie countdown milk you guys were talking about and if you check out the stats they are pretty good compared to the other milk. Only 3gs carbs compared to 13gs for those watching the carbs

I say BS to all those talkin crap about milk....milk is fine and a perfect blend of fats/carbs and protein, there is nothing wrong with it except for those that are lactose intolerant.
Of course now if you drink a gallon or more a day then expect the same as with anything else....

I find I bloat a lot when drinking milk. Plus, it isn't ideal for cutting up so when dieting I drop milk.

The only time I would have ever used milk is with cereal and oatmeal but now I use almond milk which is pretty low carb/cal. Goes really well with oatmeal and cinnamon.

Arnie says "Milk is for babies"

My coach says "Dairy makes you look soft"

I LOVE dairy, none on a comp diet, I ween myself with soya milk, and eventually, those calories have got to be reallocated, no black coffee, black teas, oats with water etc

yeah i guess u are right, milk, or too much milk during the day can make us have a bloated appearance which is the opposite of what bodybuilders want, if i drink too much milk i get a sort of facial-edema, a facial bloating, u know like a puffiness look

your poison. your fucking avatar gives me wood. lol

Yep milk keeps me staying soft and hides my cuts from most of my body. But I was drinking way too much i was having like 3 16oz shakes a day with 1% milk. Ive cut milk out as much as i can rigth now drinking all shakes with water now to see what it does but if you want o have milk i would agree with most of these guys and keep it as low as possible. I can def say i was a big milk drinker which is why I look so soft or one of the main reasons.

wait, you DON'T drink black coffee or black tea? Or are you saying you drink the coffee and teas black aka w/o milk?

Nice to hear all the different out looks on drinkin milk... cant really know if anyone is right or wrong as for the the simple thing that everyones body is different... tests would be the only way to show im assuming. But im wondering if calcium is said to aid in fat loss and is good for you obviously, then why drink milk at all when we can take a straight vitamin for it. Only imput i can say is that ive been drinkin milk alot, 2% i diet right and go to the gym daily. But im stuck at 208-210lbs and im gearin for the 185 190 region. Now im wondering if the milk could be a factor with it =/........

water, crystal light, or diet soda. NO MILK IT WILL MAKE YOU BLOAT.

PULEESE!!! I drink atleast 8 cups of lactose free milk a day and im what you guys on this board like to call the "a&f build" lmaoooo

1 large cup per meal & 2 in my protein shakes to fill me up :)

"So Delicious Coconut Milk - Unsweetened" No sugar, lots of good MCT's and other vitamins if you really need a milk fix while cutting.

shit loads of whole milk ed if your not cutting but no milk while cutting or at least near the end

After reading this thread, everything clicked. Certain times I look completely shredded and defined. Other times, after "certain meals" I'll look bloated and soft. I just realized it was from the milk in my PWO shake and the occassional shredded wheat. Milk definitely bloats you and gives you a pudgy milk. Drop the milk! Use water!

Drinking milk is just silly. Its lactate from another species. If anything we should drink HUMANS milk...but we dont. We understand that its for a certain time and we move the baby to solid foods etc...and yet we have this ingrained concept that we THEN give them COW LACTATE for the rest of their life. WEIRD...and gross.

Almond and rice milk IF you must.

this seams to be the case for a lot of people, but not all. i can guzzle milk all day and not bloat. i still wouldnt drink milk while cutting but the rest of the time the protein quality and convenience it to hard to ignore, its great.

milk robs your body of calcium and vitamin D. there is evidence that is the case.

stick with almond milk.

if milk was so good for the bones then why does the US drink so much of it yet have the higest osteoperosis, and vietnam drinks so little and has the lowest in the world cases? there is a link here.

due to propaganda we were raised to think milk does a body good, but it doesn't.. like the person said earlier milk is for baby cows.. no mammal drinks milk of another species.. they drink their own as babies.

dont forget how much money the dairy companies make, they have an entire lane at the supermarket and if you notice its always obese and fatties who are buying it.

I was recently at a farm and there was a cow that people were invited to milk.. and i asked the woman jokingly if i could drink the milk. she laughed and said it has to be pasteurized. basically you are getting milk from a steroid laden, hormone pumped cow.. that is then zapped.. sounds yummy to me. if it was so great for you how come you couldn't drink it right away from the cow as nature would intend without getting extremely sick?

its like comparing freshly squeezed OJ to the pasteurized garbage they sell at the supermarket.. no comparison!

PS. do you EVER see the great athletes at the gym or road races carrying around a gallon of milk with them drinking? or gatorade? or any other sugar laced drink that sellout athletes endorse? just WATER.. thats what i would stick with 90% of the time

and for your smoothies use almond milk (which still has sugar and should be used sparingly)

Hmm, milk from a steroid laiden, hormone pumped cow.. I guess that means theres no need for regular AAS if you drink the milk.. lol

I don't drink any milk while cutting and hold myself to 16oz or less of non-water beverage a day.

edit: wanted to clarify that the non-water is no sugar "sports drinks" or diet soda.

actually you bring up a good point. you will notice that people who consistently eat a lot of poor quality red meat and dairy over time are getting small amounts of steroids into their bodies suppressing themselves over time.. it isn't building muscle, but it is suppressing you slowly. it would be no different then injecting yourself with a small amount of tren everyday. not enough to build muscle, but enough to slowly over time suppress your HPTA. not that most of the population works out anyway right?

this I believe is the main factor in the US of men having low sperm counts and libido issues. i read a study that something like 75% of men over the age of 30 have low sperm counts and that we have a major sperm shortage in the US.

I can show you more studies also but everyone must make their own decisions and weigh the milk vs. no milk debate. I quit milk back in 2005 and my health made a major U-turn overnight. I was a major milk drinker for 4 years. my body resembled a baby cow.

I can't digest whey isolate/concentrate at all, so I'm forced to drink about a liter of skim milk every day. I'm also lactose intolerant, so that's a liter of lactose free milk per day. 2 cups pre and post workout (I often mix my creatine in the pre-workout milk too, with a tablespoon of defatted cocoa for a nice mental boost). Comes out cheaper than other protein sources, so I make do with the poor-ish protein:calorie ratio by cutting back calories in all my other meals.

lactose free milk is about the worst thing ever. they take out the lactose and replace it with cheap sugar. its processed even more then regular milk because to do that they've got to zap it even more. if you insist on milk go with goat milk as someone who is lactose intolerant. or be like me and just lose the milk altogether.

While I agree with you, the practical benefits of including a 2$/day milk supplement in my diet cannot be beaten. Owing a huge debt to college loans doesn't afford me the greatest variety in my food sources.

Nonetheless, having come from a "zero milk" diet (for over 5 years) I've noticed much better recovery and energy at the gym, even more so than taking in the same macro's from other sources. For me, it's helped immensely.

For those who havent tried it, I bought some Original Blue Diamond Almond milk today. It was $3.99 for a half gallon! WoAH!!!

However it tastes supprisingly mellow. I was waiting for the strong almond taste...not there. Its think though, thicker than whole milk.

Other than the cost...I love it!

I dont drink milk at all while cutfing... It has proven to be a hinderance for cutting

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy

some odd thread bumps in here....almond milk...flavored unsweetend/mixes awesome with all types of whey

I'm gonna have to go against the grain here lol. I love milk! I do not believe milk minus hormones is bad for you personally. I drink 2 gallons a week at least 365 days a year. But if you're wondering about which to drink while cutting, I don't think it will really make a difference. I like whole milk but have been drinking 2% lately. I havent noticed a difference. However I have not ever tried cutting without milk so I couldn't say if it hinders it or not. I'm also not the most chiseled guy here so I'm sure dillon is right lol

I've heard of bodybuilders buying breast milk from wet nurses and such. Or maybe it was colostrum. Yes I drink 2 gallons a week easy. With cereal, peanut butter sandwiches, spaghetti... Mmmm! :) it's the first thing in my mouth every morning, and if I run out at 3am I'm dressed and out the door for more. I don't always drink whole milk but I don't believe it's bad for you either. However... There is a big difference between altering your diet to manipulate your body into looking how you want (for aesthetic purposes), and something being "BAD" for you. This widely held idea that all these foods are bad for us and make us fat and give us heart attacks is my BIGGEST pet peeve.
