What keeps you ladies motivated?

EVE

New member
What keeps you motivated to look the best & feel the best & live the most harmonious you can live? What keeps you from cheating on your diets? What keeps you going to the gym consistently? How do you stay organized with every aspect of your life? I guess I'm asking this question because I fall off track so much with my diet and my workout routine to just about EVERYTHING else in my life. I could really use some examples of what keeps people motivated and organized. Does everyone have a daily routine (for when and what you eat? When and where you workout? When and what supplements you take? Manicures? Pedicures? Facials? Washing Clothes? taking the trash out....filing papers.... etc.) Does anyone write everyday out on paper?

I grew up with no disipline and it has now become a perpetual problem in my adult life.:(

Thanks.

Each time you get tempted to <fill in whatever is bad>, consider how much better it feels to <fill in the good thing>

ex. Coming home from long day at work, get urge to sit in front of the TV and eat ice cream.

Before stopping at the grocery store, consider -- if I get my fav ice cream and stare at the TV for 2 hours I will:

Pros:
Get immediate satisfaction of my fav ice cream
Get to relax and do nothing

Cons:
Will have major bloat & gas (sorry, that's the cost to MY stomach for carb loading at night) the next day
Will have accomplished nothing except put off what needs to be done until tomorrow -- then go thru the same exercise to put it off again another day
Will probably be up all night w/ a stomach ache and staring at the ceiling
Wake up with the samestack of shit left undone, except now I have a stomach ache & gas.

If you do this for a few weeks, all of a sudden there's no question what you'd rather do -- it feels so good to not be bloated that you would rather save your calories for a good steak!

BTW-- same thing w/drinking Diet Coke --- I feel SOO much better when I just stick w/ water. Eventually I crave water instead of diet COKE!!!!

I will be honest -- the above works *most* of the time -- sometimes I just saw screw it and get the ice cream...
:D

Bottom line tho -- are you controlling your life or is it controlling you?? Its your choice.

Like Spat said, when I cheat (not a planned cheat) on my diet, I'm really cheating ME. Going to the gym for regular workouts, eating clean...these are things that make me 'who I am'... I MUST go, I WANT to go to be the person I am inside. So much disappointment from letting myself down... the bloat thing Sassy mentioned really sux too- never is worth it afterwards.

Nothing else feels as good, looks as good, or tastes as good as being fit feels.:)

Scheduling makes it all come together- for myself, I have specific days for wash, boiling chicken, grocery store, home cleaning, etc...I carry one of those electronic organizers & enter everything to get done. Been at it so long now, it's simply routine.

i've realised that sometimes it's good to take a break and then get back at it. seeing the results on myself and esp the others on here helps a lot too.

getting into a routine really helps too.

Awwww, how come so bummed out?? Thought this might help distract you for a moment.... You know, sometimes its good to stop and appreciate the "little things" in life..:D

I keep a journal and a good calender w/things to do everyday! I write down EVERYTHING!!! I keep a food journal write down everything that goes into my mouth....keeps u aware and helps u not to cheat! If u cheat..all that hard work u put in so far....NOT WORTH IT!! Plus it is ALL MENTAL....MIND OVER MATTER AND YOUR BOD IS THE MATTER!!! Its about control....just because u are stressed or upset, it doesnt mean u need to eat to feel better, what u feel better for about 2 seconds,......then u feel like shit and are dissapointed in yourself and sit and regret it for the rest of the day!! Its a false sense of security...so dont let yourself fall into it. As for training, take breaks every now and then to let your body rest and to keep from burning out! U should always want to look your best, feel your best and be YOUR BEST...all the time..Its a never ending challenge! Look around u at most of the population, people are overweight and eat like shit, isnt it nice to know u are one of the few who takes care of themselves and works hard!!!! Setting new goals, and writing them down also helps, take before and after pics, keep a journal of your training progress, so u can look back and see how far u have come....have a trainer, or a training partner so u have someone u can be accountable to when u start to slack off!!! There are millions of things u can do to keep motivated! Look to the boards, we will give u a kick in the ASS!!!:D

Like Someone else said--RESULTS.

I like results in all aspects of my life. I like a clean kitchen better than a dirty one. I like a nice butt better than a flabby one.

I didn't always have this discipline but I've worked on it over the years.

It doesn't matter how you grew up, what matters is how you act now. Not how you feel, not what you think, but what you do.

I might feel sad over something, but sitting around being mopey doesn't get things done. So, even if I'm depressed, I get up, go to the gym, bake bread, weed my garden, do whatever. I've done two things:
(1) I've distracted myself from my depression and
(2) I've gotten the benefits of bread, butt, garden etc.

The unverse rewards action. Effort is good luck.

Sure, I make lists and I have a daily routine, but the real motivator come from my mind-set. Even when I was undiagnosed hypothryoid and gaining weight seemingly overnight, I still went ot the gym, lifted heavy and although I saw almost no physical results, I had the satisfaction of knowing I DID something. Even when I didn't "feel" like it, I did what needed to be done.

If your desk is messy, clean it up. If your clothes are dirty, do your laundry. You don't have to like it, you don't have to enjoy it, you just have to do it.

for me, it's all become a cycle that is self-substaining so to speak...

i can't lift if i don't eat clean, i can't eat clean if i don't feel good about myself, i can't feel good about myself if i don't lift... back to the beginning...

its just a mind set... i don't ever look at as being a big deal, its just something you do... (it took awhile to reach this mind set, and there are always setbacks but if I just look at it as a simple process that doesn't need a lot of analyzing, just simple actions... eat, work, lift, sleep...)

as for everything else in life, well the days are just too short and theres too much to do to sweat it... when i run out of sports bras i do the laundry... if there are no clean bowls for my oatmeal i run the dishwasher... when the cats need food, they meow... i feed 'em...

luckily my fiance is understanding... its a very selfish lifestyle and i try to do everything i can to make our home a happy one, but sometimes the floors wont be clean, the bed wont be made and dinner will always be plain chicken breasts and a sweet potato... deal with it!!! :)

motivation!

First of all that pic was pretty exciting. LOL LOL

I am motivated because I want to be proud of who I am. I agree with most of the others girls on here......if you give into your weakness then where will that take you? Being a strong person and knowing what I want in my life keeps me motivated. I am not the most fit person, but I try hard and look forward to the day that I am completely 100% happy with my body. I motivate myself each day to do cardio and lift weights knowing the whole time the outcome will be rewarding. It takes time and there are those frustrating moments when you want to give in, but that is when you push yourself even harder. In twenty years you will be happy that you took care of your body. Keiko,
you are one fo the few others I've ever heard mention the 'universe'- so true! :D
A close friend gave me a poster..."We create our own universe from our reality within."
... always felt that was a good motivating thought.

The thing that finally got me on track after so many false starts was when I started keeping a training log. By writing up my workout beforehand, I felt more compelled to do it, because I'd feel guilty having written all that and then not doing it.

Maybe I'm just a list person. I love checking off tasks. With my training log, I like looking back at the weights I used to lift and seeing my progress. With each workout, I challenge myself to improve. I think that little "game" is what's helped me to improve my diet so much. I started looking at food as fuel rather than something to avoid altogether or cheat with.

Visual stimulation helps as well. I love seeing awesome physiques, be they BB's or fitness. I'm going more for the fitness look myself, but nothing is a motivating as seeing those shredded BB's.

My sister's and I are very different. I get frustrated with them because they are "sayers" and I'm a "doer." They are always talking about what they need to do: I need to start a diet. I need to go to the gym. I need to clean the house. I need to do something about (whatever). I decide I want to do something, and I decide HOW I'm going to do it, then I DO IT.

I think that's something that most of the ladies in here all have in common with me, and one of the reasons we enjoy one another's support so much. We're all DOERS. I believe that's what sets us apart.

Wow.... this is exactly my situation with my sister and i. im a big time doer...always have been, and shes a big time sayer. i really think she hates me for it in a way. she seems like she has so much anger towards me for no reason. i can hear the alarm clock go off every single morning...this is her attempt to workout....but she never gets up. then mine goes off...i pop right up, go workout ...go home and there she is still sleeping. she'll just snap at me for no reason all the time. i think it just bothers her because i can just DO it and she can just SAY it. every once in a while she will get a lil motivating bug up her ass and hit it hard at the gym for about a solid week or so but then its back to the couch and cake:( i feel bad but there is nothing i can do. i know its a real struggle for her. i feel like the more i accomplish or the closer i get to my goals in general the more resentment i feel coming from her....really puts a strain on things.....anywaaaaaay-- u got me ramblin here:rolleyes:

EVE... if ur "sloppy" in some areas just work to improve them..whatever u have to do...write stuff down etc... my freinds and family poke fun at me ALLLL the time for keeping track of what i eat and call me "obsessive" b/c ill workout at 4am if i have to but i keep goin and thats what u have to do. if u want to look extreme u have to live and act extreme. if u want to look and be "average" ....sit on the couch and eat pizza and you will be average in no time!! there arent too many doers out there anymore. if fact...it takes a lot for a person to get off their ass and make things happen for themselves. dont u worry -- us "doers" on the board will keep u motivated. personally -- ill be damned if i let u slip away into the ass cracks of our fat invested country (now there is a pretty site):p :D

Sassy I must be tired....LOL

I had a crap night sleep last night, tossing & turning and grinding my teeth etc....

Anyways as a result I'm not quite 'with it' today.

So imagine how much I laughed when I saw that lil' pic you posetd for Triple V back there, and thought aaah bless her (Sassy) what a cutesy lil' piggy thing that is....and then realised it was dick!!!

That has certainly made my day.

Thanks for making me laugh.

Triple V, big hugs from London, don't be down, life is so, so short .

Much Love

Sheena:)

Just rading through Mr X's site - awesome btw! and found this motivational article:
Thanks Mr X :)

Dieting…Action/Product/End.

What is an action? Is there an end to all actions? What does it all mean?

Every art and every inquiry, and similarly every action and pursuit is thought to aim at some good, and for this reason the good has rightly been declared to be that at which all things aim. But a certain difference is found among ends; some are activities, others are products apart from the activities that produce them. Where there are ends apart from the actions, it is the nature of the products to be better than the activities. So, what does a “stupid” bodybuilder know about products of activities and their ends? Well, as Plato once said, “Judge not by see, do Judge by inquiry into the soul.” You see the concept of products of actions and their ends can be applied very easily to dieting. Let’s compare: action will stand for the dieting itself, product is the achievement of (goal) fat-loss, or muscle gain (or both), and finally the end would be the ultimate achievement of the objective or in other words the end of the diet.

How is this going to help me diet? You might ask. Well, let’s look at what every proper diet needs: the diet itself or the action, the achievement of a goal or product of action, and conclusively the end, which is the ultimate accomplishment of the objective. When these three things are put together they spell out certain success to you diet. As with anything else in life, the application of these is not a mind-boggling thing to do, but more of a concept that needs to be grasped.

Similarly, if dieting to reach a certain ultimate goal (end), then we can say the action of dieting has aim to accomplish supreme merit. Whether that merit is for boasting or for a personal feeling of success, it all boils down to nature of the product. As we all know and can comprehend, dieting (action) is not the most pleasurable experience but the product (achievement of goal) is most certainly gratifying. Thus, we must understand that behind every door there is a way out; therefore, in the end of each action there is a product that is always better then the action itself. In turn, after every grueling day at the gym, we know that the product of hard work will be the ultimate achievement of our positive goal (end). Everyday you wake up and think to yourself: I am going to quit, that’s it, it’s not worth it. You need to put in prospective the action you are doing, which is quitting before reaching the ultimate goal. For some this, ultimate goal, might be the perfect body, for others it might be perfect health, but for everyone it would be something positive. Never have I seen the product of positively charged action be negative. Every action has a re-action, likewise every action has a product and an end to it. Thus, every positive action will have a positive product and positive ending, like dieting for a contest or striving for better health, and, at the same time, every negative action will have a negative product and a negative ending, like stuffing your face with pizza and burgers in order to overcome stress.

In closing, I would like to say that if you come out of reading my article with nothing but one thought, such a thought should be: for every positive action there is a positive outcome, and ultimately if you try hard enough you will achieve the product and the end to the action you are pursuing.http://www.elitefitness.com/articles/mot.html

I'm really motivated by:

Sites like this one, which let me sap some of the enthusiasm, success and energy from others with the same goals, even if we go about it differently. I'm kind of like a parasite or a vampire :bat:

Focusing on building strength, making some form of progress in each workout, following a clean diet for health purposes, and running for sheer fitness are my priorities and they keep me on track, especially since having "the perfect bod" is not always really motivating to me and I feel like I could take it or leave it.

Tracking my progress. If I didn't keep track of my workouts, diet and running times/distances, I'm sure I would not be able to challenge myself effectively.

I love to watch my body Change, I love to look down and say "wow, there really is a muscle there, those dang anatomy charts wern't lying!" :)

I have been working out for about two years now . What motivates me , is the way I have made my body so much more desirable to myself......toned up all of the loose spots. And my biggest motivation, is, how well my hubby likes my new tight body. I have overcome a body image problem, and love to have sex now with the light on. Working out has truly helped my marriage in one of the most important areas--- GOOD SEX ;) Its a GOOD thing.
