What is the most overrated exercise here?

Well, what is it?

In my opinion the squat is overrated...

Now, I can see the flames coming already, so let me qualify my statement.

I think the squat is a fantastic exercise. It's just not THE ultimate exercise that it is often made out to be, expecially on this board.

Just because you squat doesn't mean you'll look like Tom Platz in three months. And if some past posts here would be believed then all you ever needed to do is squat, and you'd explode into a mountain of muscles.

Fat chance.

Ok, that's my rant on overrated exercises.

BB BENCH PRESS!!!!!!!!!

I am sick of hearing everyone think it is the be all end all test of strength and fitness

"so uh...How much ya bench?"

Maybe the squat is a bit overrated, however there are exercises that are much more overated and don't come close to the squat. There aren't a lot of exercises than can succesfully replace the squat. Combination of overall lower body and core strength, coordination, and some guts.

I couldn't agree more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

overrated: barbell bench press
underrated: deadlifts

Finally, some people that agree with me that BB benchpress is way overrated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"How much do you bench???"

First off, I don't know anyone who would want to look like that freak Platz, but....

Dumbbell pullovers to 'expand the ribcage' rank right up their in ineffective uselessness.

over rated= bicep curls, leg exstensions, leg curls, wrist curls........shit i could go on. they are not worthless.....just overrated

ill just stick with what Robboe said.

hey absolute hardgainer, how you doing bro? enjoying the lovely spring weather? its rad where i am.

ps squats rule. compound exercise that has a real life function

I just stick with the basic excercises, bench, squat, deadlift etc. So everytime I see some new kids do isolation excercises for instance one arm cable extensions I feel like going to them and tell them to stop with that shit.

yeah it IS a good exercise, but that doesnt mean it cant be overrated ya know.........

that is generally true but i don;t see enough people benching where i am. Most do cable crossovers and/or peck deck flyes.

It's just as well i don;t do them isn't it, or i'd be waiting for a long time to use them...

re endpoint:

Weather is beautiful out here at the moment, I just haven't been on EF much recently.

I actually think DB pullovers are a very good exercise...

As for squat - it is an excellent exercise. But that doesn't mean that it is not overrated the way some people go on and on about it how fantastic it is.

And I love the BB bench, how much y'all bench??!? :D

Squats probably are the best single exercise (if for some reason you could only do one) but I'm sick of people saying you CANNOT gain muscle without them.... you'll be scrawny forever. Whatever.

For me it's probably dumbbell pullovers as well.... I try them every once in a while and they don't seem to do much.

I disagree about abs training, though. Look at old pictures of guys in POW camps.... they had almost no bodyfat, but only a few of them have visible abs. I put that down to the muscles not being developed enough (or having atrophied from starvation) even with the very low bodyfat. Of course you need diet to SEE abs, but ab exercises are good for making them prominent.

Sure you need to train abs, but the reason why lots of bros on the board respond with "diet" is because that is usually the problem (fat), not the training.

Say what you want about squats, but show me someone who has built huge legs without them and I'll show you a liar
