what is the hardest video game ever?

could never beat Castlevania 1 when I played as a kid. 10 years later...got the rom and beat dracula's no good ass.

Kid Icarus was impossible. Metroid was a breeze. Ghosts and Goblins was impossible too. Nostalgia. What a GREAT thread with great replies.

to many to name, mostly all ofthem are on the older systems, bad planning and dveloping, but then again they were pretty limited. Willow for NES was an imposible game, a lot of he old school RPGs were so annoying with a random battle every second that you just gave up

castelvania for the old school nintendo.

also.. metroid
zelda rocked too!

super mario brothers 1 was the shit.

Forgot a couple:

Battle of Olympus for the NES. The engine was very similar to Zelda 2, but with huge sprawling areas that all looked alike, and cryptic clues about which item to collect next to advance the storyline.

Silent Hill 2 for PS2 on the hardest combat difficulty is pretty frustrating, too.

Civilization 2 for the computer on Deity...beating both ways...conquering the world...and getting a ship on alpha centauri...
The time i spent on getting that good at that game was insane.
I thought conquering the world was harder however b/c once someone got nukes...it became the biggest flamefest in the world...

I always thought that worlds 7 and 8 in Super Mario Brothers III were hard as hell.

super mario 3 was a BITCH to beat. good god.

soul reaver (ps), or whatever the fuck it's called, was one of the hardest games i ever played. it was so fucking retarded with the amount of shit you had to do in that game.

good graphics for a ps1 game, though.

That's why you collect as many power-ups and extra lives as possible in the earlier worlds, and warp the hell past them. :)

Anyone remember that Fred Savage movie with SMB3, "The Wizard"?
