what is the best vehicle for under 20K?

AAP

Plat Hero
Platinum
cross mini coopers and mustangs off that list.

car or truck. name 'em

A bicycle.

The Scion Coupe is getting rave reviews...
Not that box on wheels thing, but the coupe..

On the truck side, the new 2005 Nissan Frontier is sweet and has a 240HP Infiniti Alum V6 standard on the 4 door Desert Runner king cab and 4 door Crew cab models.

LOL @ the Ford Danger

Best vehicle for the $$

Thing about Scion is that they haven't been around long enough to determine how mechanically sound they are. Remember Yugo?

Also the Scion Coupe is the same price as a HOnda Accord coupe.

smart car is the best vehicle full stop, and it just happens to be well under 20,000

You got a link to this kind of car?

Saturns are good. Not flashy but good solid comuter mobile. I loved mine till I smashed it into the jersey barrier going 60.

Scion = Toyota. I think they have somewhat of a track record.

Honda Accord is great. I bought mine new for 16k+ with taxes and warranty it was 19 or 20k. It has over 100,000 miles on it and running well. I hope to get another 100k miles out of it. If they`re too much money now, you can go for the Honda Civic.

Nissan Altima is good too. Don`t know their price though.

Well the scion coupe looks like a watered down celica..... what is the ride in this like?

honda civic

Vespa scooter

problem is trying to actual see one in person. Toyota dealers are preselling the tC so there are never any on the lots. This is a brand new vehicle people are buying sight unseen. I've tried to check one out at all three of Atlanta's Toyota dealers and they tell me to try back on a certain day as Mr or Ms Jones's preordered car will be on the lot for a few hours, but no I wouldnt be able to drive it since it was already purchased. What the fuck?

i just got a new second car- a new 2004 hyundai Elantra, hatch back for around $11k. Awesome stereo, leather seats, great safety rating, and a 10 year/ 100k mile warranty with 5 years road side assistance.
i traded in a dodge durango truck that i HATED.

Hands down in the NEW car market, best car under 20K, Accord Coupe. :)

Unfortunately it wouldnt be well equipped though if you wanted to keep the price tag under 20k.
the EX, even with the base engine, would exceed that mark.

I have a 2003 that I bought new in May of last year. does come with a pretty good sound system for that class of car, doesnt it? My major complaint is it's gutless. Trying to pull out into a busy road is like trying to pass a watermelon through your nose.

i think i got the bigger engine- this one rocks. its a manual transmission and dark red. (i'm picky about car colors)
and yeah, the stereo is really good- its kenwood. the 2005 didn't come with one as good.

you cannot go wrong with a honda civic/accord. Reliablity and not bad styling. whatever you do..dont go american, in that price range they all suck..ie. dodge neon.

I agree with this, but the Accord Coupe base model starts right at 20K.

Check out the Toyota Tacoma access cab. I think it also starts right around the 20K mark as well for the V6 and it will be a lead contender in the medium sized pickup segment.

Camry and Accord sedan are always leaders.

Nope, same engine as mine, there's only 1 available for the Elanta. The 138hp 4 cylinder. Only difference in our cars is you have the 5 door and I've got the 4 door.

We just have different perceptions of what's perky. I'm used to cars with substantially more horsepower (this car was a big drop for me) so I guess my expectatons of the Elantra were unrealistic. I really bought it because I needed a car with a warranty and for the price the Elantra was the best thing going.

Not an 04' with rebates.

Honda isnt offering any rebates, even on the '04's. However, dealers may be dropping below MSRP to get rid of this year's models.

AAP if you can find an '04 Accord Coupe EX on a lot somewhere that a dealer is willing to move for under 20K you need to jump on that! that's a little over 2K below MSRP.

If you want a car that'll last forever, but don't mind looking like everyone else -- got a honda.

If you want something unique -- look at the new hyundai's. They've really improved on the quality lately. No more "pony" type crap.

Is scion made BY toyota or made FOR toyota by another company?

Made by Scion
Toyota is the Parent company to Scion

Scion is to Toyota as:

Saturn is to GM
Acura is to Honda
Infiniti is to Nissan
Lexus is to Toyota

stay away from a jetta... my last 3 gf's have had them and they have all had less than 80k on them and are FALLING APART. AC didn't work on 2 of the 3 either... pos's.

I used the word "rebates" in the broad sense. Actually it's dealer holdbacks, and yes they can be bought for 20k...........or you can buy one from me with 14k miles for $17,900. :)

Sweet....if you have a line on 02' S Types for 20k or under with good miles...let me know......I'll take 50.

AAP said:

Made BY Toyota. The xA and xB are mechanically identical to the Toyota Echo; the tC is not directly based on any Toyota model available in the USA, but its engine and other components did come straight from the Toyota parts bin.

You ship to Canada?

BTW, 04's are mostly gone where I'm at.

2005 Scion tC hands down.

Aap, you can expect the same reliability from scion as you would from toyota. Scion is toyota's "youth" label.

I might buy a used one pretty soon.

Well then, what corners did Toyota cut to make it so cheap? I mean, 15K base is a low price.

The Scion tC is a "girl car." I'd much rather have a Civic Si hatch, even though it's a "kiddie car."

Can an SVT Focus be had for $20K? Or a leftover 2004 Mustang GT?

AAP, what are you looking for in a car? Do you just want basic transportation, a "transport appliance", or something with some style and performance? Do you care about room? Or fuel economy? Or dignity? Are you more of a sedan guy, or a coupe guy?

Wow, i've never seen the scion tc before. That's a cool assed car. And to be that cheap. Impressive. I've only seen the really boxy one, which I actually thought was pretty cool itself.

Says who? Almost no one has one yet, "girls" or otherwise.

AAP, a 1 year old Mitsubishi Eclipse GTS (210 hp & 205 ft lbs torque) can be had for about 17k. If you like the looks of it and want something sporty, you might consider that.

get a 2004 mustang gt left over...very cheap u are over 25 so insurance aint bad

or and used acura RSX S

or brand new rsx

RottenWillow said:

I see plenty of them around, they've stopped being new, rare, and novel. Seems to be the new alternative to a Cavalier or Sunfire as a "girl's" first car.

I have a 99 toyota tacoma which I am going to sell. I need to get me back and forth to the beach and places so I don't track up my benz. I want something cheap because it is not going to be for heavy duty transportation needs.

I've seen a few Scion TCs on the Toyota lot at the Toyota dealership in Duluth on Pleasant Hill Rd.

Okay, here's a left-field suggestion -- the Honda Element. It's weird and funky looking, but it's got tons of useful space for a small vehicle. It'd be a great beach car, or for shopping, or for hauling shit home from Home Depot. It's mechanically identical to a Civic, so you know it'll be reliable. It's a good, informal second car for kicking around in.

The Honda Element is similiar to the Scion xb isnt' it?

Well, it's similar in that both look like boxes on wheels. The Element is a bit bigger than the xB, and seems to have more "active lifestyle" type adaptations.

But the Eclispe is a girls car.

Have you seen the new re-designed Toyota Tacoma just released? I'm thinking of getting one, just went to the dealer yesterday to check one out for that matter lol.

It looks ten times better then the older Tacomas and has more space all around. Seriously check out the newly designed Tacoma. Definitely going to be a best-seller in its class. You can get an access cab for fairly cheap I believe.

I also checked out the Honda Element and test drove it lol. I'll admit I love it because it's unique as hell since you don't see too many on the road. Trust me you will be getting looks everywhere you go with this vehicle... hate it or love it looks, but looks nonetheless. The interior is extremely roomy especially headspace, the rear suicide doors are neat but also useful for a large opening, the rubber floors and overall design of the vehicle are intended for "active living" individuals so you can store a ton of shit and clean things up easily (just use your hose and wash it out... rubber floors remember). Also, all the seats recline flat to form a bed. There is also a rear "sunroof" opening (it's an option) which allows you to look into the sky/stars if you are laying down. This is one of my top choices. Available in 4-wheel drive as well. On highways it's a bit noisey and could use a bit more horsepower, but it's more then adequate for anyone's needs. Very easy vehicle to manoeuvre.

Don't forget the New redesigned Nissan Frontier is also out there in 05..
Check the Infiniti Q series V6 engine in it and also compare what comes Standard on the Nissan vs being Options on the Taco..

I like both trucks, but for the money, the Nissan wins hands down
and is just as reliable..

AAP,
Check out both Toyota PreRunner V6 and Nissan Desert Runner xtended cabs if you want a great truck..
