Here's a thought Typo. Why don't you try reading the spiritual material of some other religions? Say, Buddhism or Hinduism. Try something non Christian based. I've read the Bible (including apocryphal texts) know Qabala, have read some of the Quran and Book of Mormon, have more than a passing familiarity with Buddhism and various forms of Hinduism and I base my opinion about the Bible on the fact that it's about as pertinent to our times as any of the newspapers Ben Franklin printed in the 1700s would be today.
The texts were meant to create cultural cohesiveness in and separateness of the Hebrew tribes thousands of years ago. They are myths, allegories and genealogies. Dead texts written in dead languages for people who died long ago. Dead spiritual concepts that promote static, stagnant spirituality and xenophobia, not spiritual evolution.
