Weight Gainer & Meal replacement

I am thinking about taking some weight gainer to gain some mass and help get all the calories I need in a day, I was wondering what the difference is between weight gainer and meal replacement, and what would you recommend for a good weight gainer?

I'd rather see you eat solid food than to use weight gainers. If it's a time issue (like me at work), I use Optimum Nutrition's Serious Mass when I bulk up. I only use 1/2 to 1 scoop added into a protein shake (2 scoops of ON's Procomplex). Your best bet is to add an equal amount of cals to all of your meals. Right now, I'm doing 6 meals a day that are all about 650 cals; my body weight is 238. If you eat normally and add one or 2 of these shakes (as per directions on ON canister), you're more apt to add a lot of bodyfat, as well.

Most weight gainers I've come across are loaded with sugar which only add weight to your waistline. I usually make my own meal replacement shakes, using milk, whey, raw oats, and anpb. Double the ingredients and call it a gainer.

with my school schedule and work its going to be hard for me to get 6 meals a day in but im still going to try but, eating 3,000 calories a day is pretty hard, so thats why i was thinking about taking a weight gainer to make it a bit more easier.

Olive oil. 120 calories per tablespoon. 2 tablespoons per shake. I had to work my way up to three. Anything more would park your ass on the toilet seat.

Make your own - cheaper, and you are in control of the ratios. As someone said, gainers are usually loaded with sugars.

Great recipe, feel free to modify:

1-3 cups skim milk
2-3 scoops Whey Protein
2-4 tbsp Peanut Butter
1-2 cups Fat free yogurt
1-2 cup Oats
1-2 tbsp Olive Oil

That can add up to a lot of calories. If you are a true hardgainer, and have a difficult time putting on weight, this is perfect for you. But just to be safe, keep an eye on the scale. If you're gaining too much, too fast, you need to slow it down a notch.

yeah thats one thing i was worried about with weight gainer, if it worked to well then i would be fat and i dont want that obviously, Ill give that shake a try. Does flax seed oil have a lot of calories? and do you know why people eat flax seed oil? is it for the omega fatty acids? and what do omega fatty acids do?

You can use any of the above mentioned recipes. I actually use one similar to booey's without the yogurt for my pre-workout shake. The pb and oats (not instant), have slower released carbs, so you get energy for a longer period of time. I usually use flax seed oil. Check out this link - http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/flax.html to read on flax seed oil. Good luck and keep us posted with your gains.
