weak tendons

New member
I have a weak tendon in my shoulder/rotator cuff that is making it difficult to do bench and military presses. Are there any exercises, supplements, steroids, etc. that can help? Are there any exercises, supplements, steroids, etc. that I should avoid?

Thanks.

well no steroids are going to help with your tendons.....i would be careful as to go on a steroid as your strength will go up and your tendon(s) might not be able to keep up with them therefore hurting yourself even worse........best thing to do here is GO SEE A DOCTOR!!! see how bad it is and get on some kind of rehab plan to get this shit fixed so you can go at it again hardcore when healed

Ok, I have alot of experience in this area, so I'll share... it's always a good idea to get an MRI to see how bad the "damage" is... any tears, impingement, etc. If it's so bad, you may want to consider surgery...but always consider that a last resort.... otherwise, physical therapy and chiropractic care are the way to go... in fact, I got the best results from my chiropractor than even physical therapy.... also, should do shoulder / neck stretches 3-4 times a day.... and especially before working out (if you're able to train in that condition).... these stretches keep you limber, preventing further injury, but more importantly, they strengthen the weaker / secondary muscles which are first prone to injury when you're lifting heavy weights. You can do a look-up online for "shoulder stretches" or "rotator cuff stretches", etc. - Or, as your chiropractor to give you some suggestions. Ice several times a day for 15 minutes. It's one of the best anti-inflammatory treatments. I personally try to stay away from NSAID's, but that's my preference. Finally, if joint pain is chronic, you should be on a long-term regiment of glucosamine, chondroitin, EFA's (flax, celadrin, etc), and gelatin.

Good luck bro!

Limited personal experience- Don't do winny! I had read a few posts warning about winny and tearing tendons, but just had to find out myself. Completely tore a rotator swinging a softball bat, certainly not an unusual exertion for me. The winny has great benefits, at least with me. Strenghth, hardness, even increased foot speed were things I noticed, but I ignored the warnings in these posts and I'm in my 3rd mo of rehab. This isn't gospel, just my experience.

If you have a "weak" tendon, you would just have trouble lifting heavier weights. If you have pain associated with those lifts, then it's a sign of something else such as tendinitis, bursitis or possibly tears.

If you're having pain, avoid exercises which directly stress the shoulder joint's "ball" movement, ie dips, dumbell raises, lat raises.

If it's sharp pain during lifting, check with an orthopedist, they will most likely want to take an MRI to see what's wrong.

I would take a complete break. About five years ago I had a similar complaint, and kept lifting, now my biceps tendon in my left arm is gone completely. Can not be repaired surgically or therapy.

Go for a MRI to see what the problem is. For now if you could try to work your way around it. The reason I say that is because we are all rock-heads and you prob. will not listen to taking a rest for a cple of weeks. If benching and presses hurt it try other exercises with lighter weights.

You should get it checked out 1st and foremost, and rest till it feels better..... After that, avoid Benching and Military Press..... I Popped my shoulder about 5yrs ago, and it sucked bad...... I was doing some warm up bench press with about 40lbs on the bar, so I wasn't pushing it hard, and it doesn't take much..... Instead of Benching, do Dumbell Press with a Neutral grip..... Instead of Military Press, use Dumbell's with a Neutral grip, and START LIGHT.... Work your way up SLOW in weight till the joint feels solid..... I gotta be honest, to this day, Mine still doesn't feel "solid".... However, I take it easy, warm up good, and I'm still able to do a good chest/shoulder workout...... Good Luck....

I think therapy and if u wanna know the truth HGH would help out alot deca might help as well ( i personally think it sucks ) do not take winny.

stretch like a mofo and stay away from heavy presses for a lil

Guys, Thanks for all of the great suggestions. I should have mentioned that the problem is tendonitis of the supraspinatus tendon and some bursitis. I have had this problem for a while and have been going to a chiropractor for the last 3 months. I also see an ortho and took off from the gym for about 6 months. It seems to be getting better s-l-o-w-l-y and my doctors said that I could go back to the gym and lift (even heavy) but only to the point of pain. This basically means bench press where I can bring the bar down only about 5 inches. Anyway, I am just wondering if, in addition to the physical therapy, there are any supps that might help speed up the healing process. Sounds like GH might help, but it's wicked expensive and I've heard it doesn't work unless you are on AAS, too. Grrrr.....

chinese GH is pretty affordable (its not cheap, but a lot less than blackmarket american kits go for)

Thanks. Do you think it will help with tendons if I take it alone or would I need to take slin and AAS, too? I looked into GH a while ago, before I was injured, just as part of a cycle and it seemed like you needed to take so much other stuff with it that I didn't understand how anyone could tell whether it was the GH or everything else that was helping

thanks.

i dont' know how bad it is but my shoulder used to pop out when doing heavy dumbell bench and incline, i had a weak tendon. i took deca for my first cycle, it stopped happening during the cycle ive been able to get stronger than i ever was and it never pops out anymore fact. i don't care what anyone says if you saw me lift back in the day i had to go so light on incline dummies cause it would pop out and it was horrible pain, it was an injury from lax. i swear to you my friend the deca imo allowed me to work through it and strenghten the tendon

hey. i have my lat and oblique missing on my left side, so i know about having weakness in the shoulders. you might have to just change your form slightly. i switched up hands positions and found what felt best. and fuck it, bro start by adding one dime at a time. i've worked my way up to a 435lb. bench like that.
