Walking incline recovery...how high how fast?

AirWolf

New member
Just started doing some incline walking after my workout today and I'm wondering what % incline I should be walking at, how fast I should be going, and how long I should walk for post 5x5 session.

Thanks.

Sorry - forgot to mention goals...

1) My hamstrings are always really sore and I've been told active recovery will help with that.

2) I usually do some sort of cardio immediately after each session (usually short, 15min or so) to aid in cutting some bodyfat

8 % incline 3.2 mph

:)

Try something out for a few weeks, say walking at 3.5-4.0 where you can still hold a conversation and maybe just break a little sweat, not like 12 mph sprints, then you'll sound like an elephant. :elephant: If you prefer an incline then bump it up to like 3-5 grade and ramp down the speed a little. stretch the hams AFTER the PWO cardio.

$.02

I'm not on 5x5 but the Ripptoe beginner 3x5. I have some gas still left in the tank so I usually walk for 30 mins 4mph at 6.5 incline.

I like 15% incline at 2-3mph, helps build calves, hams and glutes
I DO agree with this but airwolf, I forgot to mention, I didn't recommend a high incline b/c you mentioned "My hamstrings are always really sore" ... I didn't want you overdoing it and just keep the cardio indirectly working the legs instead of directly working the part that is sore... you could try both ways I suppose.

What do you think burns more cals? Higher incline or fastr pace? For you?

I currently do 20 minutes, 12% and 3.0....it's tough...wondering what would be the effect of say 10% and 3.3-3.5...

lol, stop burning calories!

Cool - thanks all - yesterday I did 15% @ 3mph and feel good today, especially considering I was out at a concert last night and didn't get a full recovery sleep.

I may try 10% at 3.5mph next time and see how it works. This is PWO so I'm only going for 15min or so. On my off days I usually do 30-45min of cardio work.

As for stretching, I've started doing it between sets during my workout - should I take the time to do it afterwards as well?

Jesus Christ. A bunch of overanalyzing bastardos up in here. Just walk on the damn thing. If you start panting to high heaven, slow down or drop the incline. If the next day you're still sore as all get out, do some more moderate walking and stretch a bit. But for the love of god, you homos will stay up till midnight working on spreadsheets to analyze 3.1 incline vs. 2.4 incline but then you stay out late going to concerts. Fuck.

I must be getting old.
