USPS problem

I sent a package Priority Mail to a friend that lives 2 hours away. I used the machine at the post office to weigh the package and print out the label. I did not put my return address on it but I had to use my debit card to pay. It was suppose to take one day to get there and it has been 3. What are your thoughts? Can they open my package? Can they get my info cause I paid with my debit card?

Yes.
Yes.

Call or go to the post office and find out what happened.

Never EVER send priority mail OR use your debit card! Next time, just walk into the police station and turn yourself in!

Unless, of course, you were not sending illegal drugs through the US Postal System. Then you have nothing to worry about.

DENY, DENY, DENY

I went to the post office and they said there is nothing they can do because there is not tracking number. They gave me a toll free number to call and again they said they couldn't do anything. He said I would have to file a report at my local post office and I am not sure if that would be a smart thing to do. He also said that if the package was undelivable for some reason it would be sent to a processing center where they keep the package for 6 months. The only reason I can see it would be undeliverable would be cause it leaked and I would say it is safe to say the way it was packaged would not allow it to leak.

Sounds like you lucked out. Distance yourself from that package. Chalk it up as a loss and learn from your mistake. Congrats!

USPS is searching packages now. I ordered some "research chemical's" - no steroids in the pack - and it didnt show up on time. Contacted the source, said USPS claimed it was "delivered". I called them and they said they would look into it. They called me back and said I could come down to the post office and pick up my "prescription medicine". Bunch of assholes - Bush gave them the right to search anything they want know. Everybody better forget about getting gear in the mail because its going through x-ray machines and being opened.

I think they can get my info from my debit card if they want. Do you think they could get a search warrent for my house?

overnight courier is where its at. As long as its not coming from overseas id say its your best bet. they can open it since its private however, if its going over night they don't care what the hell is in it just that it gets there on time if its domestic, international is a little different due to customs but less time in the system is better.

For real, all packages? Search and seizure laws went out the window for non-terrorists, like Patriotic Americans like most of us here on EF? The STRONG, the Brave, The Proud. We're just trying to be ready for when we're called up to duty, bound to happen in this international environment.

Priority mail without a return address was stupid bro...no offense...and ALWAYS pay cash....if somehow they got a hold of the package they could probably check when it was scanned in and check when it was paid for thus giving them your debit info....maybe even on camera heh...you never know anymore you can only hope LE has more important things to do like protect our country instead of trying to pinch some meathead for a few bottles of AAS.

what the hell are you talking about? anyway, i ordered something from about 4 hours away from my home, and it took a week and a half to get to my house. fucking post office misrouted it to the other side of the country. anyway it finally arrived safe and sound. i did have del conf., tho'. thats what you need to always get. and put a return addy, but its gotta be fake anyway. just wait it out, itll hopefully get there.

you guys are way too paranoid, i know, i know better safe than sorry.....

kd1, I "doubt" they are putting every single package through x-ray machines. That woudl slow the whoel system down. You probably just got unlucky and your pack was randomly picked or they thought the name was funky.

If I remember right the post office has permission to open packages that they believe could be "terrorist" in nature which I'm sure could be abused.

Anyone care to chime in on the actual facts of the matter.

I was under the impression that usps is the only way to go and that priority is fine.

first off usps is still the best of the worst meaning: they have soo many packages they are much less likely to x-ray them

second: priority does take 2-3 days, altho with just 2 hours it shoulda been there after 1 , 2 at the latest.

third; cash in mail, or a few prop bottles to a buddy ALWAYS priority with tracking !! man ur foolish not to pay the extra 50 cents

4th:if they want me they got me.....a.k.a putting the name and a real return addy on there isnt the worst thing

how did u wrap the "package" 'gift'

today in the news a package got intercepted because it seemed suspicious and had no return addy...ome to find out it was a bomb.

u kno where it was going? a police station.

ill see if i can find the link the news article.

patriot act gives them the right to open any package which seem suspicious. and yes terrorism of intrnational nature a.ka. those in customs

and domestic terrorism basically meaning they can open anything they want domestic mail wise too

You're getting some mixed info bro.... read my response to the domestic mail search issue below......I posted a few days back....you still have to have a warrant unless the below applies... This is only for USPS.... UPS and fedex are private and can do anything they choose...although they have internal guidlines..but your 4th amendment right doesn't apply to them.

Re: got A seizure letter need info.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I deal with this almost once a week.. its a gray area...under "exigent circumstances" relating to foreign intelligence collecting... It was Senate bill 662....the wording was clear about still requiring a warrant to open any Domestic originating mail.....but it differed in Bush's signing statement...where he mentions exigent circumstances...and people being in immediate danger....

Its no different than getting into your car or home without a warrant under "exigent circumstances".....i.e..the police are chasing you and they see you enter a home with the murder weapon...they can come right on in...

Again....remember though... the bill was only relating to foreign intelligence/terrorist issues.

unfortunately what this really translates into is:

the LE's door was busted wide open, and they have much more lee way to do what they want.

and unless your willing to spend 10,000$ dollars on a lawyer to explain why ur package didnt "look suspicious" ur screwed

SAD but tru

I had a priority pack that something like that happened to. It was only 15mins away but took about a month before it finally got delivered. Confirmation # said it was delivered to a different addy when I checked. So don't count it out yet.

You are probably right, but its still pisses me off.

The guy at USPS literally said "Prescription Medicine". I replied "Well Im expecting a package but its not prescription medicine" to which he replied "Thats what I was told, that the package contains Prescription Medicine". I guess its still down there, I never went and got it.

Just use some common sense Bro.

What is more suspicious, a package with a return address or a package without a return address? Always put a return address on the package.

What makes it easier to get tracked by Law Enforcement, using a debit card, or using cash? Always use cash. If you didn't understand, I will say it again. ALWAYS USE CASH.

How did you "package" your package? Just curious.

That's one of the best fuckin avy's I've seen yet! LOL.

I wrapped the package good so there is no way anything broke or leaked. I used the machine and put it on my debit card cause the line was so long and I was on my lunch break. Even though I knew better I did it once before and thought what the hell. And as for no return address. There wasn't a place for it on the label that was printed out so I didn't put one. I didn't put one the last time I mailed this way and didn't have an issue. I think I am just being paranoid and it got lost and will be there sooner or later.

i am sure you are right. give it a few days and chill. calling worried about a package with no return address would make me wonder. L.E. doesn't have time to track you down over a couple of small bottles, as long as dude on the other end doesn't do anything stupid and get popped. just my experienced 2cc's.

The key words here are "Signing Statement" - DOJ got a signing statement back in March from the President dictating that all USPS mail is fair game for inspection without a warrant. No surprise really, since we found out last year that the NSA was monitoring phone calls without a warrent as well - Welcome to America - 2007 - where anytime the President wants to break the law and ignore the Constitution all he has to do is issue a SS for any bill that crosses his desk and line item issues he wishes to ignore.

Ok, if my package was undeliverable for some reason , couldn't read address maybe or something stupid, and there is no return address they said it goes to the service center where they open the package to see if there is anything on the inside to help claim the owner. If they found a few bottles of juice do you think they would take the time to track me down using my debit card info?

they could. iif they thought u weredealing... tell ur boy to clear house theyd go after the ship to person first i assume.

you and ur boy= clear house to be safe

I do not see this being a problem. Relex and due some spring cleaning. Alway put a return add. Report your card lost.

The USPS has no guarantee for there services of 2-3 days. I wouldn't either if my service was bad. My brother lives in a country home 20 miles away from a podunk city that is said to get 2-3 days of service. I have to add at least one more day to get it to his house, sometimes two days, and if it takes shipping over the weekend, which always happens when I ship on Wed afternoon or later, add another day.
So that 2-3 day service has moved to a week over standard service.

UPS would be a much better way to ship something considering you can track it with a tracking# and know wherever it goes..

Open up the phone book, find a random name and address from your town....Now you have a return address. If you really feeling paranoid you can put $5.50 in stamps on it, a DC sticker, and drop it in a roadside mailbox.
