I despise the UN, but I don't look at these cases as support for my dislike. If it can be shown that such instances were widely known, by high officials, and disregarded, then this would add to my disgust of this organization. But the source of my dislike of the UN comes solely from its ideas, of its basis, of its desire to control my life and that of my country.
The above instances are horrible, but probably not reflective of UN policy, more reflective of the reality of placing people in a form of authority over desparate individuals. Some men will abuse their powers, no matter what country they are from, no matter what organization. If investigations are done and punishment metted out to those who are guilty, I can have no grudge against the UN, in this instance, for it is what we would and must do.
If Synpax's assertions about African peacekeepers is correct, then this does much to damage the idea of the UN, for they have to have knowledge of this truth. If not, then they are negligent and the blame is still partially theirs.
