ukrainian christmas eve recipes

oh, that braided bread and the candle would be such a nice touch. Your in laws would be in awe at the church service. Why does your mother-in-law have to make other stuff? Why cant they just have it one way without placing their own stuff in the mix? Sorry......if that was me I would say to her to do it another way and with another food on the table next year.

I make everything by myself. I would start cooking in the morning. The cabage rolls and bean soup can be done the day before that and have them in the fridge. I wouldnt do them any sooner than that. :)

yeah, I tried to tell her, but you know mother-in-laws...she is making ceasar salad too LOL. I don't think she quite understands just how much food there is going to be. but I know she is trying to help

good idea about that, you even do the perogies the same day? I am having 30+ people over, kay now I am panicing LOL.

holy fuck!!!! 30 people!!!!

We dont eat pirogies. We only make fish, beans, cabage rolls, cookies, put oranges, apples and dried figs on the table. Oh, and bread of course.

BUT, if I were you - if the pirogie dough can stay in the fridge no problem, make the dough and then either the same day or the day before fry them things. All the soups and rolls and stew-like meals can stay in the fridge for 2-3 days no problem. So, make those first (cuz you got so many people coming and you have to make so much food). The braided bread - make the dough the day before and leave it in the fridge covered, then bake it the same day when people are coming...am I forgetting something?

I would seriously see it as a insult - her cooking her meals, like she doesnt even care how I do my traditional way. But thank God, I married a guy from the same country :(

LOL yup so far the count is 30 there may be more (we usually rent a hall for this) but hubby and I bought a new house this year. I think I can premake the pompushky, perogies, cabbage rolls and nelishnka a few before and freeze them. I think I will make the borsh or the wheat soup the day before. The potatoe pancakes, will have to be made that day.

figs on the table, nice touch!!!

yeah, trying to ease into her a little about the whole thing, but its christmas and I am trying to just blow it over my shoulder , don't want to upset her or my husband. She is coming over to help me prepare a lot of the food so I am hoping she will see we have more than enough.

plz dont freeze the rolls. They can stay in the fridge and be fine even for 7 days.

I hope she will see how good you do it, so next time, she will only come as a guest :)
